Camilla snubs Brigitte Macron at D-Day Anniversary, rejecting her gesture of warmth

Well, isn't this a funny one.

Foreign heads of state are under no obligation to respect protocols of foreign royalty, particularly in their own country.

Seems Camilla didn't get the memo:

"Queen Camilla, 76, and Brigitte, 71, had an awkward moment on June 6 during a service marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy, France. As seen in a video shared to X by the Daily Mail, French President Emmanuel Macron's wife tried to hold the royal's hand after they laid wreaths at the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer. However, Queen Camilla didn't reciprocate, keeping her arm at her side. After briefly grasping the royal's hand, Brigitte stepped to the side and folded her arms in front of her.
Proper etiquette around interacting with the British royals has long been a highly discussed subject. The royal family's website, which has yet to be updated in full following the death of Queen Elizabeth in September 2022, states, "There are no obligatory codes of behavior when meeting The Queen or a member of the royal family, but many people wish to observe the traditional forms."

Funnily enough, Charles himself didn't follow royal protocol:

"Proving that there are no hard and fast rules around how to say hello, King Charles, 75, greeted President Macron with a hug at the British Normandy Memorial and kissed his wife's hand."

I guess Camilla's more royal than the royals themselves?

Oh my goodness! Just got up and checked the thread and they've posted THAT photograph (the Rose Hanbury one). They are truly , truly desperate at the moment.

Why is is? That's what interests me (it's old news that the SS are dim of understanding). It can only be because KC, the Queen and William h ave been involved in an important international event and have carried it off superbly. It's maddened them, and they've chewed a bit of carpet and scrabbled around for something to criticise, so we get:

Camilla rudely snubbed Mme Macron
Camilla is dowdy, elderly and English (all of these attributes are crimes)
Camilla is unattractive
Her clothes are frumpy
Mme Macron is so much prettier, more elegant and a better role model
The Queen has caused an international incident

and...wait for it...

Camilla is coaching Rose Hanbury on how to be a royal mistress while Catherine is on her deathbed, probably poisoned by William.

Now, I expected the first list, but I really didn't think, on MN, that the SS crew were so absolutely pathetic and desperate as that!

The think I most resent isn't the criticism of the RF (that's their prerogative) but that they seem to think the rest of us are as dim and childish (and spiteful!) as they are. They really are utterly hopeless.

They certainly aren't adverts for their educational systems or any sort of critical thinking.

I'd argue with the role model. Ar least Camilla leaves schoolboys alone.

IsoldeWagner · 08/06/2024 08:15

It's just a demonstration of how low some people are prepared to go.

When I taught history, critical thinking and evaluating sources such as photographs and film was very much part of it. It seems to have passed some people by, though!

The SS are terrifying, but not for the reasons they think. They are frighteningly dim, ill-informed and gullible. I'm assuming all the ones on here are VERY young - because their attitude to their idols is very 'teen magazine'.

You can't deduce anything from a still, apart from these people were here at this moment.

I wouldn’t trust Camilla as far as I could throw her. What a facial expression when with Rose Hanbury recently. I wonder what she was thinking…

She was thinking “bollocks, some half wits are going to use this photo to try and prove a stupid conspiracy theory that they have cooked up between them” 🙄

LaMarschallin · 08/06/2024 08:43

smilesy

Sounds about right.

IsoldeWagner · 08/06/2024 08:44

It's just so nasty and unnecessary. No matter what Camilla says and does, people will construe something unpleasant and unsubstantiated.
I admire the fact that she rises above it all. No whining interviews/books/articles/Netflix series etc etc.
She just carries on, with dignity.

smilesy · 08/06/2024 08:56

Ha! I know we are not supposed to talk about other threads but a whole new one has appeared about another photo…. This is just getting silly now

Yes it is.
It just seems to confirm that some of Harry's fans feel sorry for him because he couldn't go to the wedding for whatever reason, and are lashing out in all directions because, whether or not Harry actually minds, they're absolutely livid.
It'll die down and won't make a blind bit of difference in the long run.

upinaballoon · 08/06/2024 09:38

Here is a major de-rail, but I don't think it warrants a new thread just to ask this question. On Wednesday evening Princess Anne wore a white coat. On Thursday the Queen, Mme. Macron, Mrs Biden (I think) and Sophie all wore white, although I know Sophie had a turquoisey skirt below the white. Has anyone heard or read if they were all asked - if so, by whom, - to wear white? I don't think it could have just been a coincidence.

Earlier I have said that I think the supposed snub was just a bit of awkwardness and I hold to that opinion, several pages later.

IsoldeWagner · 08/06/2024 09:39

The outfits were probably just a coincidence. They all looked smart and appropriate.

White is a symbol of peace so it probably just seemed appropriate in the world of literal dressing that the royals often inhabit 🤷‍♀️

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/06/2024 09:42

Probably so they'd stand out against the uniforms and in the case of Princess Anne, so she could be seen as it got dark. Don't forget, commemoration or not. there'd be security lurking in case something kicked off and white would make it easier for her (and the others) to be spotted.

Is there a special deodorant you can use for the reek of desperation?

Does it come in a Father's Day bundle with todger cream and a bonus pot of jam?

@CoffeeCantata I'm beginning to think they all read trashy historical romances, too. The accusations about the RF sound like they came from bad regency ones.

With regard to lurking security, I was watching Pr the King and Monsieur Macron walking along together, talking away, and a man was also walking along quite a way from them and I realised he was 'security', looking other ways beside ahead, I think.

Quite! Too much Bridgerton, I wonder?

And also, what on earth has the perfectly nice pic of Camilla talking to family-friend, Rose Hanbury, got to do with the subject of this thread?

Answer: nothing at all - just evidence of utter desperation.

CathyorClaire · 08/06/2024 11:16

Well I hadn't seen that photo and my first thought was wondering what Angela Rayner was doing in it 😁but anyway. Agree with PP who said an instant's snapshot tells us nothing.

As for Camilla and Mme Macron - I can't say I blame C for not wanting to have some uninvited sweaty mitt imposed on her and she dodged it gracefully. Nothing to see here IMO.

It's funny that you should say that as the SS woman who posted the photo of Camilla and Rose writes books - atrociously according to the reviews on Amazon. This is a summary of one of her two. She has a link on her twitter to this so I'm not revealing anything private.

DingDingaling · 08/06/2024 12:54

The desperation to keep seeing the official ‘working royals’ as ‘squeaky shiny toys’ never to be let out of their boxes is hysterically funny.🤣

A picture is posted and all the paranoia surrounding the Sussex family comes to the fore instead. Delusions aplenty so drinks all round to the die hard anti-Sussex saboteurs.

You wouldn't want to get those two items muddled up.
