Camilla snubs Brigitte Macron at D-Day Anniversary, rejecting her gesture of warmth

Well, isn't this a funny one.

Foreign heads of state are under no obligation to respect protocols of foreign royalty, particularly in their own country.

Seems Camilla didn't get the memo:

"Queen Camilla, 76, and Brigitte, 71, had an awkward moment on June 6 during a service marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy, France. As seen in a video shared to X by the Daily Mail, French President Emmanuel Macron's wife tried to hold the royal's hand after they laid wreaths at the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer. However, Queen Camilla didn't reciprocate, keeping her arm at her side. After briefly grasping the royal's hand, Brigitte stepped to the side and folded her arms in front of her.
Proper etiquette around interacting with the British royals has long been a highly discussed subject. The royal family's website, which has yet to be updated in full following the death of Queen Elizabeth in September 2022, states, "There are no obligatory codes of behavior when meeting The Queen or a member of the royal family, but many people wish to observe the traditional forms."

Funnily enough, Charles himself didn't follow royal protocol:

"Proving that there are no hard and fast rules around how to say hello, King Charles, 75, greeted President Macron with a hug at the British Normandy Memorial and kissed his wife's hand."

I guess Camilla's more royal than the royals themselves?

Agree, I'm no fan of Camilla but on a different day, with different women, the online discourse would be all about how awful it is to try and hold someone's hand without their consent

The Macrons spent quite a long time with the Bidens and i thought Joe didn't look particularly steady on his feet. I wonder if in the split second she held out her hand, she was genuinely thinking "white hair must check is OK walking backwards". In other words it was a misplaced impulse to help that has, of course, been blown out of proportion because reasons.

What pisses me off so much is that these people live a life of absolute luxury in exchange for supposedly representing the UK abroad, yet they are not even clued up on the symbolism of such a gesture in the UK's closest neighbour. I mean, the least they could do is their bloody homework in exchange for the multiple palaces and gold carriages.

We are always told they carry out a huge amount of preparation behind the scenes for any engagements. This suggests that is a lie.

Homework on what? Nobody has explained what consistent history there is of the wives of heads of state of allied countries holding hands at a war memorial. Do you know?

What is a 'lie'?

Hiliarious. 'Oh sorry your maj, forgot to tell you in the pre-DD briefing that according to some posters on a chat site you should have been prepared for Madame Macron to want to hold hands after you'd laid the wreaths. Apparently according to them we should have known that would happen because 40 years ago Kohl and Mitterand held hands at a similar ceremony and it's not happened since but y'know, our bad.'

Don't be daft. BM made a spontaneous and unplanned gesture, for whatever reason, and Cam ignored it. No way anyone would have prepared her for that in any briefing.

What? This doesn't even make sense? Did Mrs M not do her homework then about the British Royal Family ?

Again, when have the spouses of French presidents gone around holding hands with members of the British royal family, or indeed anyone else, at such ceremonies?

Given that these events are normally orchestrated down to the last detail, shouldn't Madame Macron have cleared it with the Queen's office in advance? Instead of grabbing for her hand like a teenager who wants to show how popular they are?

Err...... maybe ex-mistresses get jealous of OW's ?

Charles has been kissing the hands of women he meets formally for literally decades years now. (As do other European royal family members). I imagine Camilla is well used to it.

I wouldn’t trust Camilla as far as I could throw her. What a facial expression when with Rose Hanbury recently. I wonder what she was thinking…

That's a very poor quality image.

DingDingaling · 07/06/2024 23:46

Yes the facial expression is obvious.

AnnieSF · 07/06/2024 23:55

Is it?

ItsNotAShopItsAStore · 08/06/2024 00:05

I wouldn’t trust People magazine, they are the shills of the Sussexes and will smear the TF in exchange for an exclusive about a toddler’s birthday party

Gorgonemilezola · 08/06/2024 00:09

That photo is so terrible it's impossible to make out anyone's expression. I find it odd that these 'gotcha' photos are always such poor quality, when everyone has a great camera on their phone these days.

LadyPenelopeForever · 08/06/2024 01:05

Yup, I see it too @DingDingaling

Rose obviously told a horrible joke. I get like that with one of my friends who likes to tell bad puns.

People used to pick on Hilary Clinton for her hair. Now they pick on Camilla for not holding hands. Women get criticized for really stupid, petty things.

Edited for typos

IsoldeWagner · 08/06/2024 06:42

Camilla is smiling at another woman as part of a general social interaction. It means nothing.

IsoldeWagner · 08/06/2024 07:06

The level of desperation on here to demonise Camilla is something to behold.

I don't think that's Rose Hanbury. I'm pretty sure the redhead is Charlotte Tilbury.
Aside from that, the comment reeks of desperation.

Gorgonemilezola · 08/06/2024 07:11

Camilla's had a lot of positive press this week, so here come the Squaddies to plop all over it. Another day, another desperate attempt to cause mischief. So boringly obvious.

IsoldeWagner · 08/06/2024 07:13

Yes, I agree. It's because of the coverage of Normandy, which should be about the events and the veterans. Unfortunately, some people have decided it's an opportunity to try to trash Camilla. I find it a bit sad really that such an event has been so twisted.

AnnieSF · 08/06/2024 07:34

This photo has been touted around by SS who have captioned it as Camilla giving Rose training on how to be a mistress. This is how desperate they are. As I have said already this is another attempt to stir things up when the Royal Family are involved in high profile events this week. They can't come up with anything positive about Neghan or Harry so they have to go back years and look for stuff 🙄

IsoldeWagner · 08/06/2024 07:37

training on how to be a mistress
😂😂

Toooldforthis36 · 08/06/2024 07:39

I don’t hold hands with people I’m at work with either.

That's genuinely funny. Training? just goes to show the mental and social limitations of these people.
