Hydration means to keep the skin well moisturized and take good care of it. I think that among Black communities it is a matter of pride to look after oneโs skin and present well moisturized. Itโs pride in caring for yourself and I believe itโs passed on to children: Just as the ladies in their beautiful traditional gowns and Geles take pride in being dressed well - beautifully, immaculately.
I could have the wrong end of the stick of course. Maybe Iโve totally missed the point. Which wouldnโt be the first time for me. Apologies if Iโm wrong."
I've quoted your post in full to avoid misunderstandings since you said subsequently:
As I said, I donโt know that I do understand for sure yet. I was just hoping I got it right. I think I made that clear
You absolutely did make that clear in the second paragraph of your post. I should have quoted you in full.
It's just that you sounded like you knew what it might mean in your first paragraph and I much preferred your explanation to the one which Googling had suggested.
But it seems you're as ignorant as I am.
I very rarely @ people as I personally find it irritating depending on how it's used. It can seem to demand attention. Generally, if I quote someone on a thread, I use the double asterisks to highlight their names and then assume they'll eventually see it and either 1) want to contribute and are ignoring me or 2) haven't seen it and/or have lost interest in the thread and haven't returned. However sometimes I want to answer with some useful information or think I have a useful post for the poster or want to make sure I'm not ignored or overlooked.
However, skullbabe started the thread and has been active on it very recently.
So I feel it not unreasonable to ask directly:
@skullbabe What do you mean by "hydrated" in your post?
You said in your OP:
Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend.
I looked up MLE as it was an unfamiliar term to me and thought it was an opportunity to educate myself.
You were asked very early on what "MLE" meant. You - jokingly, I assume - said:
It depends on which is your favourite type of jollof.
I've since said that a friend from Ghana made the best jollof I'd ever tasted. I know there are different types of jollof but accepted that I didn't understand the relevance of this.
I looked up MLE as I didn't know the term so was expecting to see a lot of new words. I hadn't noticed any MLE in the thread (in fact, I'd asked about this, but got no reply) before your mention of "hydrated".
I don't understand what you mean by "hydrated" in this context. Please you you tell me what it means.
I hope I've made myself "clear", Wickedlywearynamechanged
(On the plus side, we had a power cut last night so I sloped off to bed early. Got woken up a few minutes ago by the bedside lamp suddenly coming into life!
Can't remember such a long outage)
