I think she looks amazing and (tit tape mishap aside) the outfit seems to fit her. The bottom is a little voluminous but the top looked great, hair and sunglasses totally on point. However she seems overdressed for this type of event, which she does quite often. You know that saying “dress for the job you want rather than the job you have”? Since they left the RF I always get that vibe off her. Rather than thinking “I’m going to a sporting event on grass, perhaps pumps or low block heels would be best rather than these stilettos”, or “It’s a semi-casual film screening in the boiling Caribbean, maybe a ball gown wouldn’t be appropriate”, it’s as if the outfit/pictures are forefront in her mind. Surely if you actually want to enjoy or fully embrace an event you take into account practicalities when you’re picking an outfit? I don’t object to MM being mindful of her appearance as one of the most photographed women in the world, but it just suggests her priority is looking good rather than throwing herself into whatever it is they’re doing or attending. She does often look a bit awkward when she’s not holding on to PH and I don’t think her impractical wardrobe choices help matters.

Is there something wrong with her that she can't physically stand or walk without clutching someone's hand?

That'll be the heels on grass

Ha ha, good point. In fact I would have trouble walking in those kind of heels on any kind of surface - and I don't recall Meghan wearing such incredibly high, incredibly pointy heels before. They look to be at least an inch higher than the ones she usually wears.

Grin

The pair of them do seem to need constant handholds and back pats. Wtf is wrong with them. Be strong, walk tall!

@TheCraicDealer

The outfit is a complete and utter mess. She has money at her disposal and can buy the best advice/stylist but repeatedly wears awful clothing or nice clothing which needs to be tailored to fit but instead she wears it as it is so that it does nothing for her.

She should have a seamstress to hand and it would make such a difference.

We are all slim but one of my sisters is particularly slender and alters clothing to fit her waist and hips and bodice where needed and it makes all the difference as to how a garment hangs.

Not my comment but sums this particular outfit up -

'So much going on in one dress...halter top, wrap top, keyhole front, folded turtle neck, ill-fitted waist, bodice & neck, pleats, culottes, lack of lining, wrinkle-prone fabric, and I spy a big bow hanging down the back. Is the dress a school design challange with lots of disparate elements put into one garment?'

IsoldeWagner · 13/04/2024 15:01

For that money, I'd want it lined.

Vespanest · 13/04/2024 15:06

i do think it’s worth remembering that this is aimed for the American market, and I can see the attraction of a Hollywood film star, I found her look beautiful and does seem to fit with what they are apparently selling. There does seem a market for royalty in the US, why I don’t know. Whilst I don’t mind the royal family I would not want one if we didn’t have one.

But she wasn't a Hollywood film star, she'd had a crap career posing in burger ads and yes did end up in a successful soap opera style law series, but it was hardly film star level.

I think you're right though they are styling themselves on The Royal Family USA.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 13/04/2024 15:11

Thought Meghan looked lovely. I would kill to be able to walk in those heels especially on grass!

But she is not, and never has been, a 'Hollywood film star'.

And she was only really 'royal' for about 5 minutes.

She has barely set foot in Britain over the past 4 years and will likely never be seen in the company of a senior royal again. The royal family may hold an appeal for some Americans, but they want royals to be royal. Doing royal stuff, mostly in Britain. Not hawking a lifestyle line in California and posing in Florida with a Netflix crew following them around.

It’s the look she is going for, she was never going to win, too dressed up, too dressed down and everything in between. I thought she overdid the closeness to Harry but the clothes, she’s a woman so she would be ripped apart no matter what.

No, she wouldn't.
Most people on here credit her when the style is good, suits her, and appropriate.

AliceOlive · 13/04/2024 15:23

I love the overall look. Would change a few things to make it the same shape but simpler. Love the shoes but don’t know how she managed on the grass with them.

That style of neck/shoulders always looks great on Meghan.

AliceOlive · 13/04/2024 15:27

Delfina Blaquier, who I’ve only heard of on this board today, seems to have a substance that would be well suited to launch a lifestyle company like ARO.

Gorgeous husband, accomplished in her own right, interesting taste.

I would try to get her involved if I was Meghan.

She does suit that neckline it’s reminiscent of her evening wedding dress which was so much nicer than her actual wedding dress.

I liked Meghan’s wedding dress. I don’t look at things so closely most of the time so didn’t notice the issues until someone else pointed them out here, years later.

I was getting married not long after and originally wanted something with that simplicity but ended up going with an entirely different look.

The neckline and shoulders make me want to work out more. But I struggle with the right bra for a top cut so extremely.

A polo doc could be interesting if they Jilly Cooper-it up enough - not sure how much Harry could add.

But I'm not sure I need to watch a 2nd division actress with no professional cooking/gardening experience wafting around her kitchen and garden - it sounds flimsy, as a premise.

I'm sure she'll be wearing flimsy clothes too.

DojaPhat · 13/04/2024 15:50

I think the threads on Meghan on this board should be archived for posterity. As it stands of course I understand why many on this board hate her with the passion they do, but in the context of preserving 'real time' sentiment toward her from the 'average' mumsnet user, I think it's a valuable resource.

Never, ever confuse discussion of actions/choices with "hate"

And yes, there are lots of threads, that I think were deliberately derailed by posters who plopped in with insults to those posting on well-tempered threads, that ended up being deleted. I would very much like to see them restored, especially now that the Sussex Squad revelations are coming to light (won't post about them in detail here, as there is a whole other thread for that, one which has covered the vague litany of past woes as a tactic)

Delfina Blaquier comes from a very wealthy family and is married to a very wealthy polo player. She's been involved in brand promotions for years.

I can't think of any reason why she'd want to get involved with the unformed mess that is 'ARO'. I don't think anyone with a reputation or a business to think of would want to go anywhere near.

But as this thread shows that a matter of opinions, there would be a very small time when everyone is an agreement, so every time she wears something it will be critiqued.

Why is she presenting the trophy? Didn't she shoe horn her way into presenting one at another polo event where Harry was playing, and looked totally out of place there as well? Does she go to any other polo events, or just ones where her husband is playing? It's all very odd.

@IcedPurple I think it came out that the photo took are thinking of was faked and there was no win.

Did you see all the threads about the Princess of Wales for daring to be ill and then <whispers> photoshopping a family snap? Shock.

I guarantee if W&C behaved appallingly as the H&M have done with gossipy interviews, books and reality shows there'd be plenty of scrutiny about them too.

Salemforcuddles · 13/04/2024 17:09

"Hate"? A tad strong , I'm not sure people care enough to hate, it's more about questioning the behaviour and choices

What ever they produce will be ridiculed and pulled apart. I really don’t know why they persist in flogging a dead horse.

A dead polo horse (pony) at that. It’s common knowledge apparently that H has been cruel to his horses. I can’t look at him nowadays he disgusts me so much on every level.
