“If you have 1% of public funding then we can claim public interest, we can invade your privacy on everything because you have public funds supporting you”.

It's not clear why Kate's hospital stay (and the usual visits of her family/friends) would be so much more shrouded in secrecy than the King's.

“This is the same woman who was doing a photo op in full hair/makeup holding her newborn within 24 hours of each of her children's births.” She visited the Sarah Everad incident location with cameras in tow.

Charles was very publicly seen entering and leaving, with his wife also making multiple public visits. Kate was not seen receiving many visits except once from William, but this was to protect her privacy, she was of course in communication with her family and they had other ways of entering the hospital where she was staying.

Charles recently been diagnosed with cancer has not disappeared from public life.

Thomas Kingston's cause of death not yet revealed but many don't expect it to be a secret.

Only Kate and William are to be accorded full privacy as and when inspite of the tax payer funding them with the added esteem of Bentleys and diamonds.

This Forbes article closes with:
The reason for Kate Middleton’s prolonged absence might be melodramatic or mundane, but no one trusts the Palace to tell the truth. The ‘Kate Middleton Is Missing’ Conspiracy Theory, Explained (forbes.com)

If Kate is able to sit up and smile, I believe that KP would have tweeted a carefully staged photo of it. Perhaps this is to help drive attention to her with a big unveiling and then lots of media coverage about how she has been missed and much loved.

In the mean time the Royal Rota is said to be getting restless with so few royals to feed on. Perhaps they should try to find the £80million worth of missing jewelry last worn by you know who!

Why would you think his cause of death would be private? No one else's is. Not even the Queens was kept private.

What's Catherine appearing on the steps got to do with her choice to be private about this issue?

So you haven't seen a picture of her in bed you assume something worse?

ColleenDonaghy · 29/02/2024 18:02

Christ, another one.

It's not clear why Kate's hospital stay (and the usual visits of her family/friends) would be so much more shrouded in secrecy than the King's.

Because that's what she chose, and it's her health.

If Kate is able to sit up and smile, I believe that KP would have tweeted a carefully staged photo of it.

She's had abdominal surgery, which means she's likely lost weight and not looking her best. This is the woman with the most overanalysed appearance on earth, I wouldn't want to appear until I was back to normal either.

And again, maybe she just doesn't want to.

Geebray · 29/02/2024 18:05

Oh god, not this again.

Thomas Kingston's cause of death not yet revealed but many don't expect it to be a secret.

Because there will be a post-mortem. Just as there is with everybody.

Meadowfinch · 29/02/2024 18:10

She's had major surgery, she probably feels rough and she wants some privacy. Good for her.

KC is an old hand at this, he's been dealing with press interest for 70 years.

She hasn't.

FYI the BBC royal correspondent just on news …basically she has politely suggested that people mind their business that it is private information not to be shared !

FlyingNorth · 29/02/2024 18:17

"The public interest" doesn't mean "anything the public is interested in".

Not everybody only if unexpected

Inkanta · 29/02/2024 18:20

What did the Queen die of?

Geebray · 29/02/2024 18:21

Neurodiversitydoctor · 29/02/2024 18:18

Not everybody only if unexpected

Yes, I meant that. Thanks. The inquest starts this week.

But OP seems to be comparing that to secrecy around the PoW's illness - unlike an unexpected death, there is no legal requirement to say what somebody's ill with!

Redglitter · 29/02/2024 18:23

God this is getting monotonous now. How many bloody threads on the subject do we need

Lollypop701 · 29/02/2024 18:26

I hope she’s sat at home in her pjs, hair scraped back in a pony tail, no makeup, with a brew and a packet of chocolate digestives . In a spare 5 minutes even Reading MN and laughing

This! Give the woman a rest from the conspiracy theories!

People forget that in the past convalescence was a thing, there used to be special convalescent “homes” for people to stay in to recover.

I presume this is what Catherine is doing. Whatever procedure she has had, she needs time to recover without feeding the mawkish public’s demand for gossip

Agree. She doesn’t owe anyone juicy details of her health

DillDanding · 29/02/2024 18:37

It’s bizarre, the level of interest in Kate’s illness and even William’s one occasion absence on here.

Shes missed a handful of engagements at most - she’s not exactly active in that department. I’m sure she’ll be back looking glossy and perfect exactly when they said she will be.

It’s almost like some people want her to be gravely ill. 🤷‍♀️

OnceinaMinion · 29/02/2024 18:42

She didn’t visit Sarah Everard memorial site with cameras. Someone spotted her and took a picture.

I imagine she looks like crap. I think that’s basically it. She had already lost weight and probably lost more. I imagine part of the absence is to try and look much better before she is photographed.

strugglingnd · 29/02/2024 18:49

Think op forgot meds today! Has started yet another thread 🤦‍♀️

CarrotOfPeace · 29/02/2024 18:50

I think people just need to get over it. If we need to be told something we'll be told. Otherwise it's none of our beeswax

BeaRF75 · 29/02/2024 18:53

FFS, OP, just stop with all this nonsense. Anyone and everyone is entitled to privacy re their health.

tiggergoesbounce · 29/02/2024 19:28

I think sadly because people believe that if you put yourself out there, and you take tax payers money, you dont get to pick and choose when the press get their pound of flesh. Thankfully, she has been afforded a bit of privacy and is just surrounded by well-wishers hoping she is given space and privacy at this time, as should be the case.

EdithWeston · 29/02/2024 19:46

The Waleses are protecting their privacy over a health matter.

They are not responding, no matter how loud the tantrums of prurient curiosity.

The public interest is in the health of the head of state and heir, but it's not too much of a stretch to include other senior working royals. That public interest issue has been met - we know that there has been surgery, that a period of recuperation is needed and roughly how long, and that she is expected to be able to return to duties thereafter.

The king continues to work (and send messages) having cancelled/postponed only engagements where he meets others - v sensible as many cancer treatments do awful things to your immune system.

Both of them choose for themself how much detail of health information is made public

QueenOfHiraeth · 29/02/2024 19:49

FFS give it a rest. How many times does this need to be gone over? 🙄

MrsLeonFarrell · 29/02/2024 19:57

I need tin foil for my Easter Sunday roast so in the faint hope that reading a balanced article might stop the rubbish

Perhaps William, because of the Kings diagnosis, has realised that he could be King a lot sooner than he wanted/expected to be. He’s not ready. He has a young family. He wants to protect them. So in preparation for this role, he has decided to set the rules. He has decided that the press and/or social media won’t be allowed to dictate what information is released. He won’t allow his family to become a Netflix soap opera. He will have (some) control over what the press has access to.
All families, even if they are famous, are entitled to a certain amount of privacy.
