… from Mountbatten-Windsor to ‘Sussex’.
Apparently it’s to strengthen their brand.

Zara has a coat of arms with coronet etc

She has a coat of arms, but it doesn’t have a coronet. Neither does her brothers, her father’s or her paternal grandfathers. I’ve never seen her use it, either.

Princess Anne has a coronet on her coat of arms, but she was the grand daughter of a sovereign at birth, and then daughter of a sovereign, so hardly surprising.

I like Zara's, it isn't too fussy, lots seem to be, and it seems just right for her.

Apparently H&M have hired a British photographer who covers the royals to be their official photographer. Crests, Sir, Ma’am… they’ll be building a castle next.

A castle would be fabulous! With Throne Room!

And a Banqueting Hall for those banquets where everyone does an exaggerated curtsey 😂

And seat cushions with their monogram on it, just like on their doormat…

Apparently the interview is for Good Morning America who have been following them around this week . Will Reeve ( presenter) has said H talks about his father’s cancer.

I'll hold off on that one until we hear what Harry actually says, but it's nothing new for upcoming contents to be "bigged up" in an attempt to get people to watch whatever it is

Happens all the time ...

@Likeateddybeard @themessygarden laughing at H not being able to do it is not disrespectful. It’s a wife laughing at her husband.- this is a good example of things being picked up to fuel the debate.

WRT the interview, the website launch, using titles & names for the first time etc. are clearly part of a relaunch PR campaign timed to coincide with IG.

KC’s cancer diagnosis was unexpected and they couldn’t delay the launch. Personally if it was my Dad I would have done the trip so I can’t criticise H and no one but H knows his true motivation.

But she was laughing and thought he looked funny enough in the seated ski aid to take a picture
would she have done that if he was just standing there in skis - nope !

How can anyone find that acceptable -

She is supposed to be supporting injured veterans and showing respect - it’s uncomfortable to look at

Going back to the titles and CoA I always have a memory of Harrods with, I think 3, huge By Royal Appointment CoA on the corner of the building.

Are H & M able to do the By Royal Appointment or is it just KC, WC and PoW? I can’t remember if Diana had one as PoW.

Usually the two most senior royals can give warrants, along with anyone the monarch allows.

QEII allowed her mother to continue issuing them and Prince Philip to issue them so for a long while there were four royals who could issue them. Any given by QEII will expire on the second anniversary of her death.

ATM only the King can give them out. I expect he’ll allow Camilla and Willian to do so at some point in the not too distant future.

skullbabe · 16/02/2024 12:29

Why would Meghan not carry her own phone? Why would she have to borrow one?

She was asked to take the picture for him by the man who handed her the phone - seeing as he wasn’t allowed to. And so she did.

Yes I'm sure she expected that marrying a prince wuold mean being a princess living, in a castle, with people deep curtseying to her.

Realising it meant being a dusty old duchess, living in a cottage and having to potentially curtsey to your SIL must have been quite a let down.

Much better to live in a sunny mansion in the USA and try to be A list there instead.

skullbabe · 16/02/2024 12:33

The standard is now Meghan should never smile or laugh whilst taking a picture of her husband for someone because it’s disrespectful. Noted.

Context is everything

smile and laugh when appropriate - that’s manners

Someone should tell Harry and his guide.

No he’s allowed Kate to do it.

Well,no it’s not to go to an event like this, celebrating the achievements of wounded, injured and sick veterans and show your husband using someone’s disability aid and you pissing yourself laughing and photographing it.

skullbabe · 16/02/2024 13:01

Like I said - someone should tell Harry and his siting ski aide this too. It’s good to know.

How weird you can't find it. Her name is Zara Tindall not Phillips. If you put in Zara Tindall on Google, it's at the very top. Very first one! And no she doesn't show her coat of arms, her choice.

Zara doesn't show her coat of arms because they should not be linked to commercial gain which is what H&M do, after promising the late Queen Elizabeth they would not do this, but other royals even non working ones, like Zara Tindal don't just do it. That's the difference. If H&M just removed that coat of arms and coronet no problem at all with using the Sussex as family name.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 16/02/2024 13:04

Interesting that Meghan never seems to do anything that requires physical effort, unlike Kate, who leaps in like a Blue Peter presenter and always has a go at participating in activities. I remember watching Kate and William having a laugh whizzing about on sand surfing things in Scotland a few years ago and thinking that Meghan would never do that.

Not a judgement - I like to lie down a lot myself - but interesting nonetheless.

skullbabe · 16/02/2024 13:06

Yes it’s interesting that Meghan has different interests and activities to others.

If my job is to get involved, regardless of my personal preferences, I get involved. It’s not hard.

skullbabe · 16/02/2024 13:15

Just as well as that is not a prerequisite nor a requirement as a patron. We now have established that smiling and laughing is disrespectful. I imagine that if she were to take a turn at any assisted sport and laugh or smile whilst she did it, it would be considered disrespectful.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 16/02/2024 13:17

Just as well she doesn't bother to exert herself then, @skullbabe .

skullbabe · 16/02/2024 13:19

Yep - good for her.

I think you are being OTT about this. I'm neither for nor against them. Generally I hope they get on with their lives and be happy but sometimes they get things wrong. I think the thing I've felt most dislike about was what Harry said about the housemistress at his boarding school. I thought it was rude and unnecessary. On the other hand I've said on here I can't see the issue with the surname, Mountbatten-Windsor was a relatively recent (i.e. in my lifetime) made up name from two made up names so what's the problem.

I used to work with a disabled woman, one day a senior member of staff was seen showing some visitors some of this woman's equipment and laughing about it. The staff who had seen her were all upset and I can see Meghan laughing at Harry in that situation as very similar, it is not very diplomatic. I do think it is different to laughing when you are doing something which may be exhilerating and fun to do.

Generally I think the people who can see no wrong are as extreme as the people who see no right.

Serenster · 16/02/2024 13:33

Honestly, I cannot conceive why she ever thought she was well suited to being a senior royal family member, when she lacked so many of the basic attributes necessary for the public-facing role.
