Good on them for being open about it.

Charles off work and William off work till end of March at least.
Edward is in charge at the moment and I guess Brits are happy to have him in charge.

Edward in charge? Where did you get that gem from?

I was dreading opening this in case of the GIFs 😄

I assumed this was a joking response to the Princess Kate Operation Drama thread. i laughed.

But it seems you're serious? 🤔

William has said he's cancelling public engagements whilst Catherine is in hospital, and for her first arrival home.

Where does March come from for him?

Also, as it's public engagements that he's cancelled, he could still do the office-stuff on a WFH basis. Plus he'll be on standby to be regent whilst Charles is under anaesthetic.

If it really can't be him, then I expect the two new CoS (Anne and Edward) would cover the time Charles is out medically - that's why the extras were appointed

Maireas · 18/01/2024 09:31

Exactly, @EdithWeston - William will almost certainly still be doing paperwork.
With a bit of luck, Charles won't be out of commission for long, and still working on the red boxes. If necessary, William could step in for him, he's not ill, just supporting his wife.
No crisis.

That'll be news to the government. Not that they're in charge of much lately.

I’m glad he’s drawing attention to prostate issues. My FiL was having trouble peeing but didn’t tell anyone exactly how much difficulty he was in until he couldn’t see at all and managed to nearly give himself kidney failure 🙄. He worries constantly that he might have a problem with his heart, but doesn’t think anything else could kill him😆

Just re read this and it should say couldn’t “wee” not “”see”. Stupid autocorrect 🤪

also meant to add that he now has a permanent catheter as he has enlarged and stiffened his bladdder so much it doesn’t function properly. So yes awareness and early intervention is a good thing

Desperate2023 · 18/01/2024 10:07

Wishing King Charles all the best.

This type of operation is routine and wishing a speedy recovery to our Kind once he has the operation.

Prostate problems are very common in me aged 50 plus. Thankfully most are easily managed but always see the doctor if you have symptoms

Most are on year long wait lists

IME (or rather DH's experience) the wait for a prostate op is nothing like that long. Only a few weeks

But agree - how easy it is to get a GP's appointment and then into the system for the op itself can be pretty variable. But as the first thing they need to do is exclude malignancy, the GP to hospital referral is under the 2WW rule, so the waits aren't that long

It's not quite day surgery (waiting time would probably be shorter if it were). Depending on procedure, men are typically in for 1-3 nights.

justasking111 · 18/01/2024 11:01

The health system doesn't go straight for the scalpel. There are other things tried first which can work. Husband reckons Charles would have had a catheter in for the carriage ride and coronation if his issue was at the stage where you plan a journey, trip to the shops, walk the dog, and nature calls frequently. Which is miserable for everyone.

He's had it done twice first time hot loop which was grim. Second time laser which was great he said.

Straight to scalpel for my DH

Guess it must vary with how it presents

Twonewcats · 18/01/2024 11:06

Most are on year long wait lists, - sources??? My dad had some prostate issues (not an emergency at that point) and was being seen in hospital within a couple of weeks.

Yet, this Kate calls styled and chauffeured to show up at events "work". I'd hate to have her job - she has the spotlight on her constantly.

"her successful planned abdominal op" requires a 2 week hospital stay & then 10 weeks of 'rest & recuperation'. We have no idea what the problem is, so you're in no place to judge whether this is reasonable or not.
Plastic surgery or eating disorder is what experienced medics are postulating and sources say something happened on 28th Dec. - Sources? I'd be interested to read about this.

Kensington Palace leaked Duchess Meghan's medical information to others in the household and to reporter Valentine Low. Then they leaked her emails and texts to the Daily Mail and court. BM discussing over and over again Princess Meghan's leaked medical records. She deserves no privacy or kindness. ?? Her leaked medical records?

Some children deserve tenderness and consideration while others don't because their father is no longer need by their family's agenda and their mother is bi-racial. Eh? If the simple issue of being biracial was the problem, you can be sure that H would never have been allowed to marry her in the first place. You do know that Queen Charlotte was biracial?

Are you planning to post this on every thread related to anything concerning the health of RF members, because you've done so on 2 already, including this one which is entitled 'King Charles' prostate' and is not in fact about Kate.

tempnameforadvice · 18/01/2024 11:25

@QueenOfHertz finally, a post making absolute sense and managing to be empathetic at the same time! Imagine if she so much as grimaced in pain in front of a camera!! Poor cow. Best of luck to her!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 18/01/2024 11:48

You do know that Queen Charlotte was biracial?

She might have had what would have been called Moorish ancestry from the 13c (as Louis XIV probably did). That's hardly biracial.

Abhannmor · 18/01/2024 11:52

Good luck with it @DontLeanOnTheKeyboard ! 👍.

To suggest a mum of 3 in hospital recovering from a serious operation doesn't deserve privacy or kindness is horrible. Anyone in that situation does.

justasking111 · 18/01/2024 12:40

This something happened on 28th is a load of bollox dreamt up by some sad individual probably on tik tok driven by god knows who. Pineapple needs to give their head a wobble.

pilates · 18/01/2024 13:00

LadyPineapples what a deeply unpleasant post 😔

I doubt he would have had a catheter at the Coronation. He has apparently only recently reported problems and the Coronation was in May last year. Also a catheter bag
needs emptying fairly regularly and I wouldn’t have thought he would have been able to go through the Coronation with a strange bulge on his leg.

Araminta1003 · 18/01/2024 13:35

I think it is fairly brave of King Charles to share this quite intimate medical information to raise awareness amongst men.

For many men in their 50s prostate issues are huge because they can impact sexual performance and with that, it can affect men’s self worth and identity. And that is why they don’t get themselves checked, are embarrassed etc Early intervention is key and saves many lives.

So it is good and very modern of King Charles to share this publicly. My late granny would have had a right chuckle about it. Wonder what the late Queen would have thought.

Even 20-30 years there is no way a monarch would have openly shared information about a part of their reproductive organs. Good on him for raising awareness on an important issue. I think it is great.
