Surprised no thread yet.

BBC News - King Charles to be treated for benign prostate condition

Good on them for being open about it.

I’m really impressed that he’s allowed the reason to be put out there. They could so easily have left out the prostate part, and it’s an important issue.

Me too.

Maddy70 · 17/01/2024 22:46

And? Why is this news ? Surely things like this are his private business.

Thunderbird7 · 17/01/2024 23:12

I actually think KC was being chivalrous and trying to take some of the heat off the press trying to uncover what’s wrong with Kate’s abdomen

StuckintheRutt · 17/01/2024 23:22

Really?? I'm sure he's fond of Kate but I didn't think he would invent an issue to save her blushes?

SweetChilliChickenWrap · 18/01/2024 00:28

Good for him being open about this to raise awareness.

Redglitter · 18/01/2024 00:33

It’s fab he’s being open and it raises awareness, but why hasn’t the PoW taken the same opportunity? Hernia? Adhesions? Fibroids? Why so different? There may well be something going on to do with having kids, no need for mystery

Because its absolutely noones business. She has as much right to privacy when it comes to things like this as anyone else

WagWoofWalkMeeoow · 18/01/2024 00:44

Thunderbird7 · 17/01/2024 18:45

Because he’s the head of state for 15 countries

@Thunderbird7

i don't think that's the reason we've been told tbh. He wants to show that it's ok to talk about this problem, bring it out into the open. In the hope that other men will get these things investigated & what to look out for.

given how he was brought up, I think that's commendable.

I have a lovely relationship with my FiL, but he definitely wouldn’t be telling everyone about his prostate to take the heat off any abdominal issues of mine 😅

Fair play to KC if that’s what he’s done!

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 18/01/2024 00:58

kate has abdominal surgery, all the tongues are wagging as to what type (could be a simple hernia) and now this.
it must be horrible living in such a fishbowl zero privacy.

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 18/01/2024 01:08

@CurlsnSunshinetime4tea horrid, what with all those financial advantages, frightful!

My ‘simple hernia’ will be major abdominal surgery, I have cardio issues and I am in 4 days max. Either hers is overkill or mine is hopeful,

(Mine is 4th repair in same hernia, this time open and accompanied co-morbidities

I think they gave released this today to take some of the spotlight off Kate.

I agree. People can talk about Charles’ prostate rather than Kate’s innards.

Definitely this

PosyPrettyToes · 18/01/2024 02:04

@DontLeanOnTheKeyboard I would imagine that she doesn’t want to worry her children with the details and risks of what is clearly a quite significant medical procedure, so has chosen not to say.

QueenOfHertz · 18/01/2024 06:33

Kate needs longer in hospital so that she can recover in private. You’ve already seen the press mob camped outside the hospital. Kate needs to be able to walk without grimacing, stand and wave without doubling up in pain and to answer questions in a polite way with a massive smile on her face, all whilst looking immaculate otherwise she will be torn to pieces.

Yes, it’s one rule for her, one rule for the rest of us who are allowed to crawl to the hospital car park wearing jogging bottoms and last week’s T Shirt.

pilates · 18/01/2024 06:40

Good for KC - raising awareness can only be a good thing

Damned if you do and damned if you don't springs to mind

duckpancakes · 18/01/2024 06:54

There's a seperate thread for discussing Princess Catherine's innards. This one is for the Kings prostate.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 18/01/2024 06:59

King Charles' prostate sounds like a variety of prostate, same as a King Charles spaniel is a type of spaniel

There's a post you probably thought you'd never type.

Spencer0220 · 18/01/2024 07:08

I really hope he gets well soon. I like him a lot. He's doing excellent work

smilesy · 18/01/2024 07:53

I’m glad he’s drawing attention to prostate issues. My FiL was having trouble peeing but didn’t tell anyone exactly how much difficulty he was in until he couldn’t see at all and managed to nearly give himself kidney failure 🙄. He worries constantly that he might have a problem with his heart, but doesn’t think anything else could kill him😆

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 18/01/2024 08:03

Can't this be commonplace for men of KC'S age?
I know a lot of men in my family, ( and others I've known), started with prostate trouble around his age.

Maireas · 18/01/2024 08:07

It's very commonplace, but many men ignore it, and it becomes more of a problem.
As pp said, it's good that he's been open about the problem, it may encourage more men to get help.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 18/01/2024 08:19

Mumsnet titles I never expected 😂

justasking111 · 18/01/2024 08:24

It improves a man's quality of life so I'm glad he's highlighted this common procedure

Ethelswith · 18/01/2024 08:44

It is common with ageing, and good on him for being open about it.

Because late presentation is an issue, and anything that can reduce that has to be a good thing
