So, who's the bigger LIAR - Piers Morgan? or Omid Scobie?

Judge Mr Justice Fancourt:

Piers Morgan “clearly knew about” phone hacking, he said, adding that that “between them, they even went as far as to lie under oath at the Leveson Inquiry” into phone hacking.

Fancourt said in his written ruling on Friday that Scobie was "a straightforward and reliable witness".

And we have a few more LIARS:

Mr Justice Fancourt also ruled that ex-Mirror chief executive Sly Bailey knew of hacking and “turned a blind eye”.

So, in the tabloid media, and in thousands of posts in the past two weeks, we have had fact-free character assassinations of Scobie, Prince Harry, Meghan and anyone contradicting the obviously self-serving hysterical tabloid media narrative.

Now a HIGH COURT JUDGE has ruled who has been lying, and who is the credible witness.

I really hope this doesn't end here for LIAR Piers Morgan. To use the words of his friend stateside:

"LOCK HIM UP !!!!!!!!"

Lol, both.

This wont help Harry and Meghan rehabilitate their reputation either.

PepperIsHere · 16/12/2023 05:19

At least Dan Wootton got kicked to the kerb. Piers next. Vile, hate-filled little men.

lizzy8230 · 16/12/2023 05:30

Absolutely. It feels like Morgan has got away with so much for so long - but hopefully this is the turning point where it comes back to bite him big time. odious, ignorant prick. Lies pour out of his mouth and he thinks he's not accountable to anyone. Let's hope criminal charges can be brought against him. I'm no fan of Harry or Meghan either but Morgan it seems has committed a criminal offence lying under oath and deserves what's coming. You can't have a little strop and storm off from this mate!

ALittleTeawithmilk · 16/12/2023 08:39

Glad you like my “pasty lipless Blighty face” (and look, no caps!!! I had to really restrain myself here…), I’ll be sure to re-use it when describing Piers PLBF Morgan…

I’ll be using ‘pasty lipless Blighty face’ if you don’t @TallerSally , it’s perfect.

EdithWeston · 16/12/2023 08:45

Scobie has been caught out swearing on his family’s life about something that is now demonstrated as false (unless he had an unacknowledged ghostwriter throughout) - and this was after his good court appearance

And he’s made a fair few inaccuracies over the years

So no, I don’t find him either reliable or trustworthy.

Don’t have any time for Morgan either

Cakester · 16/12/2023 08:54

I think there is a lot of misrepresentation going on, no Judge ever called Scobie ' a liar' ( he's just been called a reliable and honest witness in this case by the Judge ). No Judge called Meghan 'a liar', she forgot emails she was not longer in possession of, and herself did not meet Scobie about his other book that had nothing to do with the case she went on to win, where this came out. During a time she had just miscarried and was in the early stages of her next pregnancy she was clearly anxious about, she forgot something that had no relevance to the Daily Mail publishing private letters. Not comparable to Piers repeatedly lying, including during in-person testimony at a public inquiry, and a Judge now saying so quite clearly: he knew, several witnesses testified as much. People can keep trying desperately, oh do desperately, to compare and create a narrative that Meghan and Scobie are liars like Piers Morgan, but it's fairly transparent and a bit of wishful thinking for people with an obvious agenda. Theres no comparison to be made. I mean you might as well drag Mike Tindall into it and call him a liar like Piers Morgan too, as he misremembered something when giving evidence to the RFU during their investigation into the behaviour of players during the 2011 RWC. He later recalled something different, and all parties agreed it wasn't intentional, but 'misremembering'.

Again, Piers Morgan is a different kettle of fish entirely, this is clearly quite serious as it involves actual criminal activity being covered up. Repeatedly, and potentially lying at an inquiry.

Prettypossum · 16/12/2023 09:03

Omid has not been rehabilitated by this, he’s still as dishonest & sly as he was before.

lizzy8230 · 16/12/2023 09:14

@Cakester exactly, there's a lot about Harry and Meghan's actions that I dislike, ditto for many others involved in this debacle but Morgan has lied under oath and the judge has called him a liar. There should be a police investigation and hopefully the odious prick will face charges

MrsLeonFarrell · 16/12/2023 09:30

Piers Morgan has achieved exactly what he wanted with that statement. People are arguing about who lies more instead of calling for the media to be held to account.

This shouldn't be about Scobie or Meghan, it should be about the fact that a newspaper hacked phones and that had serious consequences for those affected. It should be about the fact that, even if they don't hack anymore, they still use invented stories to spread hatred and division.

Great post, fully agree!

The problem with lumping everyone together is not all lies have equal negative impact.

Equating, say, Boris Johnson's lies about Brexit with, say MM's alleged lies about whether or not XYZ said what when, is clearly deeply, deeply flawed. We're all paying the price for Boris's blatant dishonesty about Brexit, and will be paying for generations to come.

Piers Morgan lied about not knowing that articles were being written under his watch using phone hacking. Worse, he notoriously got fired from his job as editor of the Mirror in 2004 for fabricating photos of British soldiers abusing an Iraqi prisoner. He lies through his teeth whenever it suits him, laying on the bravado as if defying anyone to challenge him.

That seems to have been working for him in recent years. Until he decided to go for Meghan, and got a target on his back from Harry instead. As a journalist said yesterday, Harry's completely undeterred by the galactic scale character assassination PM and others are conducting of him and Meghan. He's determined to hold Piers and others to account, has the money to do so, and will see it through, not matter how many times Pasty Lipless Blighty Face tries to blast him about California suntans.

I had a good laugh listening to PM mouthing off about "never hacking anyone's phone" yesterday. Does he think we're dumb? The exam question is "were you aware of phone hacking?". The answer "I didn't hack anyone's phone and Harry is a liar with a California suntan" may work for PM's fans and blind H&M haters.

But it's simply not washing with anyone else paying attention!

PM, you're better of keeping your mouth shut at this point, instead of digging yourself deeper in!

OP posts:
Cakester · 16/12/2023 11:52

is having a Californian suntan supposed to be an insult?

lizzy8230 · 16/12/2023 11:59

@TallerSally 100% agree. PM thinks he can switch on the bravado and we're all fooled. If he's not shitting his pants yet he's an even bigger idiot than I thought. Best case scenario (for him) he'll have the arse sued off him for millions now. Best case scenario for everyone else is that this civil case now gets picked up and a criminal charge of perjury is investigated.

milveycrohn · 16/12/2023 12:14

"Now a HIGH COURT JUDGE has ruled who has been lying, and who is the credible witness."
I cannot stand Piers Morgan, but on the other hand, as PM says, he wasn't called as a witness for either side, or asked to make a statement, so not sure how the Judge can just say he was lying.
He also says, that only 1 of the articles while he was editor, 'MAY' (judges words) have been due to hacking.
personally, I don't think there are any winners here. Harry was originally offered 200k as an out of court settlement which he refused.
He may, of course, try going after PM through the civil courts.

whattheactualfrog · 16/12/2023 12:34

I think it’s a draw

TallerSally · 16/12/2023 12:37

Dead right, which is why Pasty Face is running scared, and hurling out "Harry is trying to destroy the Monarchy!" lame-*ss soundbites like his life depends on it (which it probably does).

He wasn't called to the witness stand because in a civil case that would have enabled him to escaped X-examination.

But in a criminal case, there'll be nowhere to hide.

Which is why PM is actively working the Rolodex as we speak, blackmailing his friends in high places to ensure the Police decide to conveniently not open an investigation.

This is the acid test of whether or not this government is genuinely committed to ethical journalism and enforcing press standards. Spoiler alert, they are almost certainly NOT!

Maybe the next government might be?

Be scared Pasty Piers, be very scared!

This.

It's like when you spot someone lying.... (too much fabrication of story, too much detail, too much eyes shifting).... old Piers is hitting out at anyone and everyone and is quite obviously running scared. Even though he wouldn't admit it to even himself.

Breaking news... (I will go and put the link to it on the MNG thread too)

A top judge has said anyone who lied to the phone hacking inquiry should be prosecuted for perjury after a court found there could be "no doubt"editors at Mirror News Group knew about intercepted voicemails.

It was never about the money, they're all aware the damages available to them and it's not much. This was about having it all out in the open and forcing Leveson 2.

Roussette · 16/12/2023 15:41

Yes, and having the public sit up and take note.

For hours yesterday it was all over the News on every single news channel. And it will be again when AssocNews (DailyM etc) have to answer for themselves too.

Can you be prosecuted for perjury for lying at a public enquiry? I didn’t think you were under oath there?

LolaSmiles · 16/12/2023 16:03

Surely nobody actually thought Piers Morgan was an honest and upstanding journalist though? Is this really news that he's a liar?

I'm not sure what Piers Morgan being a liar has to do with Omid Scoobie.

I'd not trust either of them.

MrsFinkelstein · 16/12/2023 17:27

They've both been shown to be unscrupulous liars. Both will have been truthful at times, and lied at others.

I wouldn't trust either of them.

MargaritaThyme · 16/12/2023 17:31

I don’t think Scobie lies. I think he says whatever his beloved mistress tells him to say.
