The Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the Invictus Games 2023

Most of the Invictus threads seem to be filling up, or focused on fairly parochial issues, so I thought, now that Meghan is in Dusseldorf, I would lead us off with a general new thread about Harry and Meghan at Invictus 2023.

Some initial thoughts from me.

The UK tabloid narrative about how much Harry and Meghan are loathed globally is blown apart by the warm and rousing welcome they both received, both separately and together. So the UK tabloids have to dig deep to write eye-rollingly silly stories about Harry being "humiliated" because he did not score a goal during a fun, light-hearted TV appearance to promote the Games.

Invictus clearly means everything to Harry, and it is lovely to see Meghan supporting him, and to remember that it was at Invictus in Toronto that they first went public. The event must have such lovely memories for them both.

The Nigerians have really lit up the tournament. A Kenyan senator who met Harry last week posted on X that she would work on Kenya to be the next African team.

After everything in the last year, it's so lovely to see that Invictus is getting bigger, that Harry is as committed as he has always been to the Games he started, and that Meghan is there to support the veterans, and her husband.

then yes, IMO, I can post about how Meghan looks.

@Gilmorehill -it is funny. It’s all over the shop on here. One minute a thing is a ‘bad’ thing then, before you can say boo to a goose, the ‘bad’ thing becomes a ‘good’ thing, then if you hang around long enough (usually about half an hour) the ‘good’ thing that originally started off as a ‘bad’ thing goes back to being a ‘bad’ thing 😁. No it wasn't obvious. And it wasn't 'disingenious' to make the connection. The stupid woman didn't make the connection that of course it would be included in the story of the children as she wore the jacket on the way there. What was obvious was that she didn't care about the children.

Yes, I could. She was more concerned about her image and what the press thought of her fashion choices than the poor children she was visiting that her husband locked up. Of course, what would you expect from a Trump anyway.

Just a couple of weeks ago I was attacked by both sides (including H&M fans) for saying I didn’t like the way the IG documentary had been edited so that Meghan was silently hovering in the background. I wanted to hear her to actually say something (other than just as a support figure for her husband) like maybe talk to other veterans’ wives or something. I’m sure she did and it just got edited out. They said no, it’s Harry’s event, of course she isn’t talking. Now fast forward and the same people are like “of course Meghan is taking part, she can’t win with you.”

Half a billion households 🙄 I think something may be off with those numbers.

And 800 accredited journalists, yet mostly covering Meghan Markle's wardrobe.

Not just about Meghan, but I’ve noticed that all Hollywood celebrities do that weird clapping with arms outstretched and flat hands now. It looks exhausting!

Haha indeed you can't win so I'd just stick with your own opinion and not feel swayed by others. I wish them both no ill will at all for example, genuinely hope they're happy and its been lovely she's been there to support him- but I personally think the march was weird AF as was presenting medals and if others disagree why do I care! Just as they are entitled to their own opinions :)

its odd on these threads. posters who have caused a lot of hurt, always seem to post about how they have been targeted. always forgetting what they have done,
back to subject. it looks like it went very well for all involved. H&M seem to have done well.

Total households in america, UK, france and germany is 223 million. So 431 million households is utter bollox.
