Interesting indeed.
It seems to me that for a city to win the right to host the event, its nation would need to be supportive of the Invictus Games.
What we saw from the UK at the last and hugely successful Invictus games in Germany in September, instead of support was a deliberate and coordinated media campaign of silence and gaslighting over the entire event, so much so that the lone UK Government minister (for Armed Forces professionals) who attended tweeted multiple times in shock.
I suspect there isn’t a word of official public support from the UK Government even anyone who was following the event closely can recall. And of course, not a word of support from the RF. So what if Invictus is Harry’s thing? It supports veterans, and the UK had a huge team of veterans there.
The German President supported Invictus. The Head of NATO was there with a reported 1000-strong delegation. Justin Trudeau recorded a video of wishes. Joe Biden made a shout out in support of the US Invictus team just a few months ago.
If the UK Government and the British public can’t support Invictus, why should Birmingham even be in the running?
There are other places better able to focus on the veterans rather than on creating (yes, fabricating, whipping up) psychodrama just because Harry is the founder and champion.
