One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

Read my post "its par for the course at a certain level". Nobody has to take the job.

Just like benefiting from the tax free billions, the pomp, the privilege and the deference afforded to core members of The Firm carries obligations and duties. One of those duties is rocking up to support your national team at major sporting events, even if the event does fall in one of your multiple holidays in the year.

They were not dubbed the "Doolittles" for nothing. Compared to their parents and grandparents' generation they are slackers with good PR teams.

So what? If William was always busy, he’d be accused of being an “absent father”, if Kate was too busy, then there would be something about her not being a good mother. There’s always a rush to find fault in something. But I guess it gets people to click.

Nonsense only the unemployed have the luxury of being available for their children daily. The rest of the working population are juggling.

LimeCheesecake · 18/08/2023 09:34

For those saying giving up his holidays - he’s had more time off this summer already than most people get for the year, plus it’s not like he didn’t know the Woman’s World Cup was happening this summer, and that as the team won the Euros, there was a good chance they’d do well - this should have been factored in to holiday plans.

the fact he’s not even planned to go suggests he doesn’t take the Woman’s game as serious part of his job as president of the FA as representing the men’s game. Which is shit.

He can only trade off being a better King option than his brother for so long, he might actually need to drop the lazy arse reputation and start showing up.

I’m sure that’s how the tabloid media will portray it in that way. Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

LimeCheesecake · 18/08/2023 09:36

Most people who normal jobs if they have the leave allowance to take the whole school summer holidays off but a work commitment means they need to work one week of the summer holidays, would just do that then book the October half term off. (Watch him not work the October half term as well)

Really? I don’t really follow William’s comings and goings so have no idea how many holidays he’s had this year? I was under the impression he’s on holiday which would make sense as there is a summer holiday at the moment.

No they don't. Most people wouldn't be allowed 5-6 weeks off in one go, and anyway, that leaves no time for Christmas, Easter and half terms.
Most people use organised activities: summer camps and the like, childcare, grandparents etc.

PrincessTigger · 18/08/2023 09:40

Just to point out Prince William hasn’t attended the last 3 men’s world cups…

IsGoodIsDon · 18/08/2023 09:41

I agree OP it’s really poor form and not recognising that women’s sports matter as much as men’s.

Very disappointing. Also it’s in the country that he will be King of sometime in the next 20years and he is a president of the FA why hasn’t he planned for years to be there whether England made the final or not. He should be equally pleased that the tournament has been so well supported and he should have be part of that.

Australia really want to host the men’s World Cup and after this and how well supported it’s been and what a success it’s been I can see it happening it the not too far distant future I wonder if would attend that tournament?

Serenster · 18/08/2023 09:43

How do you know what he’s been doing? He’s not been seen in public over the school holidays, but how do you know what he’s actually doing with his time?

Here you go again posting actual facts.

C'mon, you know you're meant to just post irrational posts putting the boot in for no real reason!

Hippyhippybake · 18/08/2023 09:53

He popped up at that food truck 2 weeks ago and living in East Anglia I know he’s been active in his charities since July. Bizarre to think that just because they’re not in the newspapers that they’re somehow not doing anything!

The men’s team hasn’t made the finals though. The best they’ve done is the semi finals or quarter.

If they do it's the truth.

Tugging your forelock days are in the past now and I don't live there

Morestrangerthings1 · 18/08/2023 10:03

Why wouldn’t it be the Australian Prime Minister who presents the trophy? As an Australian, I would expect this to happen -
as the final is being played in Australia.

Exactly. Why on Earth would people want another nation rocking up to do it.

I wouldn’t here

LimeCheesecake · 18/08/2023 10:04

For those saying the carbon footprint - the UK is sending someone, the Culture Secretary and aides/assistants. I’m not sure that William would use more carbon.

he really shouldn’t have booked holiday now (if they are away). This is like a head of a sixth form being away over A Level results day, yes technically they could go away, but you don’t book your holiday for dates you know you’d probably be needed.

or perhaps Prince William just plays lip service to being the President of the FA and genuinely had no clue when the Woman’s World Cup was happening or that the England team were tipped to do well. Perhaps this has all come as a surprise to him. But surely not as so many are convinced that he’s working hard doing research behind the scenes when he’s not doing public events.

CloudyMcCloudy · 18/08/2023 10:05

Aus has paid for the successful event and set it up, they get the nice parts and the photo ops

Dabralor · 18/08/2023 10:07

It always beggars belief to me, the apologists on here.

He should be going; this event should have been factored in as a possibility waaaay before the tournament started; if he had a good office, they'd have spent time pencilling in worthwhile visits around the area to make the most of his time there.
Or, organise a big thing for underprivileged girls to come watch it at one of his palaces - how amazing would that be.

But, this whole 'hes on his holidays' schtick. Were he doing any manner of other jobs we all do, he'd be required to put in hours at a time inconvenient to him.

They can't be doing all this normal and relateable signalling but pulling rank when it suits them.

He's a lazy bastard, end of. Give someone else the FA job who actually invests the same passion and commitment in it as our amazing lionneses. Heaven knows they deserve better than this.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/08/2023 10:10

Nono22972 · 17/08/2023 13:55

The semifinal was yesterday. The final is the the 20th. He could easily take a commercial flight.

There's always excuses for Kate and William's lack of commitment
Why does it need to be a proper tour?

Because it's ridiculous to do a 48+ he round trip for 90 minutes

Hippyhippybake · 18/08/2023 10:12

Perhaps they should send his predecessor in the role? Prince Andrew!

SleepingStandingUp · 18/08/2023 10:13

If the Matilda's had beaten the Lionesses would everyone still be demanding he goes out to support them against Spain?

Angrycat2768 · 18/08/2023 10:16

There are many reasons he shouldn't be President of the English FA ( He is on course to be King of the whole UK, conflicts with Wales v England games and now issues of him representing England in other countries where he also wants to be Head of State) He wants to bulk up his woeful workrate with his leisure activities like going to the football. The Royals whole schtck is based on image.. Everything they do is done to prove their worth. If they were doing things behind the scenes we would know about it.

Morestrangerthings1 · 18/08/2023 10:16

Hippyhippybake · 18/08/2023 09:01

@Morestrangerthings1 My point about women’s football was really that it’s a pity the media don’t give a fraction of the attention they give to it to other female sports. It is almost as if it’s only when women play a traditional male sport that they get national attention - see the Netball World Cup where England also reached the final a few weeks ago.

i missed your point. Understood. And agree.

LimeCheesecake · 18/08/2023 10:24

@SleepingStandingUp - the culture secretary is going to do it so there’s someone there representing England. But William is the president of the FA, this is part of his job, or should be. He could go for a few days, visit some local charities, spend some time with local people.

But that would require some planning and planning effort.

@Dabralor - I think you’ve got a good point, his office staff should have had this on his radar. Considering how much we are paying for his office staff, they seem pretty shit that this has come as a surprise. Apart from anything else, his grandmother handing over the World Cup in 1966 to the mens team has been iconic and put her front and centre everytime that clip has been shown, it would have been good continuity for him to be in the clip handing over the woman’s one. Worth the trip even if they don’t win. (Puts him in a new bind if the men make the final next time, he now can’t go without looking like he really doesn’t care about the woman’s game)
