No great surprise there... Would love to hear his story about Zooming Prince Harry, I can only imagine his frustration with the whining ninny!

The William who called his mother paranoid and went after Bashier? That William ?

He didn't go after Bashir, he made one statement after the investigation was concluded, including the effect that Bashir's actions had on his mother (feeding her paranoia, fear and isolation, and worsening the relationship between his parents) and requesting that the interview never be aired again. The Duke of Sussex issued a statement at the same time

Oh?
Just like the royal family kept quiet about 'out of Compton headline'. They all share the same view?

That comment wasn't made by a member of the royal family nor a member of royal staff, so they did not have the same locus as Spotify do (being in a contractual relationships with both the person making the comment and those the comment it about)

You mean the same royal family workers who called her princess pushy and all sorts of names?

Princess Pushy is Princess Michael of Kent!!

And I was responding to a specific comment, and why the RF has no locus to respond to it.

They tend to respond only when it is something to do with false advertising claims (eg Meghan and hair extensions) or when it's a staffing issue. Adverse comment in the tabloids is left unchallenged - whichever royal its about - as a matter of policy.

And then Harry and Meghan used clips

Surely everyone already understands the difference, right? I didn’t take the comment as genuine.

And it was Markle’s sister that called her that. But again, doubtful that posting here has forgotten that. Not very nice to dredge it up in regard to M.

Samantha did not coin the phrase, she used it after palace staff used it.

That's definitely true? You have evidence that palace staff used that term?

Palace staff, if they use it at all (which I doubt) would do so for Princess Michael of Kent because that epithet has been routinely used for her for a couple of decades (perhaps more)

Samantha could have come up with it, I suppose, or could have utterly misunderstood the established British usage

skullbabe · 24/06/2023 20:46

And the point I was trying to make above, is whether anyone has been prepared yet to categorically deny that Harry suggested the idea that he interview Trump? Has anyone? Would anyone here give that cast-iron guarantee?

I can’t give a cast iron guarantee but the one thing everyone can probably agree on is how defensive Harry is of his wife. And in thinking about his attitude to people who he believes have been horrible to his wife, perhaps ask how likely it would be he would interview someone who called his wife nasty for expressing an opinion in 2016?

Milcar · 24/06/2023 21:03

Maybe he would. He seems to have rowed back on the racism implication she made on Oprah. Circumstances change...

Simmons is a sports commentator and his podcast is a lot of rambling. Sports podcasts and commentators have a lot of trash talking and filler comments. This seems like an off hand comment he made without really thinking it through as part of rambling on. It wasn't the focus of the podcast. Sports commentators always say some controversial things as that is what leads to debate and emotion and gets people hooked to listen.

He probably got his hand slapped by Spotify for saying it but since it was true they probably just told him to be more diplomatic and watch what he says going forward. I think it could relate to the 'talk to Putin and Trump about their childhood trauma headline'.

Bill Simmons made quite a long commentary on Harry last January. So he'd already formed a poor opinion about him.

I don't believe these were just random comments. They were talking about player negotiations, and Bill Simmons co host was saying, "you're used to doing negotiations". And that's he came out with M&H leave negotiations. So he wasn't just there to mouth off. But clearly it was on his mind. The subject changed straight away. There was no debate. And I doubt his American sports podcast audience care tuppence about M&H so he wasn't sparking interest with them.

Gracewithoutend · 24/06/2023 22:47

MarcelProust · 24/06/2023 18:14

Don't know who came up with subpar performance.
Not WSJ, as far as I recall. Bloomberg and them had eyebrows raised with 'those in the know'. who?
Archetypes was top of the chats and won awards.

Simmons got a job as executive with his sport pundit podcasts and signed on some super expensive podcasts on his own.

You do the maths.

Bill Simmons didn't get a job with "his sports pundit podcasts". He sold a podcast network that he built from nothing. And it was the second network he'd built. He sold it for $250m, earning himself $100m. And he's increased the network by 50% since working at Spotify. Plus he does 4 podcasts a week. He got his job as an executive because he's a talented, motivated guy who knows what he's doing in the podcast business world. He's great at spotting talent and nurturing it. His sports columns were one of the most widely read across the whole of the US. He's not where he is today because he blagged his way with a podcast.

Further, he did not sign H&M and the like. That was Dawn Ostroff who's been sacked.

I get that people don't like anyone saying bad things about Harry and Meghan because they like them. I really do understand. I felt the same about the Queen. But don't do experirnced, hard-working, talented people down because Harry couldn't get his arse out of bed to do some work.

@SirQuintusAureliusMaximus "I wonder what the future holds for them. I think if this trajectory continues she is most likely to leave him and marry someone with more serious wealth (ugly banker type or film producer) who would want her as a trophy and who will bank roll her political campaign to run for office (which I am sure is coming soon)."

I truly think she thinks she is "President" material. After all, she did write a letter to P&G once. I have always thought that she was expecting to live in the castle, have unfettered access to tiaras/crown jewels and to have her own throne. Even to the point where she thought since she and Harry married, Prince William should be bypassed and make her the Queen and Harry King. Finding out that she was not going to be able to boss the UK around as she wished, she took the nuclear option and it was easy to get Harry on board. He already had so many issues that manipulating him into what he has become was pretty easy.

I can only hope the American people are smarter than the idea of voting for a d-list actress to any important office.

skullbabe · 25/06/2023 08:03

Ah - the sweet scent of misogyny first thing in the morning in a predominantly female site.

On Mumsnet Bill Simmons is talented.
He talks about talented people, big difference.

He is unknown by most outside the US. In fact the irony of him calling other grifters is not lost, because he grifted to the top himself . He is just annoyed, because he took so long to get to the top and it must gaul to see others get what he wanted for decades in a mere few months. But that's life.

He did not sign Harry and Meghan, but he did sign other big deals. Sounds like a knee jerk reaction of panic on his part. Mentioning H&M means more people paying attention to Spotify decision possibly over paying podcasters, including himself and those he signed.

skullbabe · 25/06/2023 08:10

And yet people in entertainment run for office all the time. Regardless, I think many people need to understand how the American electoral system works before speculating on a particular candidate’s chances of running.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 25/06/2023 08:48

😂😂😂is that why Spotify's podcast division is doing so badly then? Why so many have left/are leaving? He's such a nurturer.

experienced, hard-working, talented people

He's also a misogynistic prick known for trash talking people and having a predominantly white guest list and staff.

Maireas · 25/06/2023 08:48

I actually think she'd be quite a good president. She's reasonably articulate and presents well. She's not anti abortion or a gun nut. She knows what country she's in. She's a woman. I'd say that's quite an improvement.
Go Meghan 👠✊
