No great surprise there... Would love to hear his story about Zooming Prince Harry, I can only imagine his frustration with the whining ninny!

@BitOutOfPractice

He was far more successful post presidency. Probably the most successful post presidency.

I agree. He had a very low approval rating as president, although his reputation increases as his presidency years recede. Lol. Always the way. I think he was more successful in foreign affairs which is why the Nobel Peace Prize committee were interested in him. But he didnt get awarded the prize til over 20 years after he'd left office.

He always comes across as an intelligent, thoughtful and principled man. He's the only president that kept his child/ren in state school through his term in office.

I always felt sorry for him that the hostage crisis was solved just after he lost the election and before Reagan took office. Maybe things would have been different if it had happened before. Although Reagan did have a pretty convincing win so maybe not!

@Gracewithoutend

He was very unlucky but he has gained respect over the decades. It has been an exemplary life of service.
i saw he was in a hospice

Gracewithoutend · 21/06/2023 16:44

He's still alive l he's,about 100, I think. I did hear he was ill - maybe because they spoke about him being in a hospice? But at that age...
I was in my teens when he was president and in those days, no 24hr news, we didn't get much US politics. But I always remember thinking he was unlucky and didn't get enough credit.
A good guy.

This comment from the Secret Service gets me.

That's lovely!

He'll be 99 this October.

The move to hospice care at home was announced in February; the family's request for privacy has been heeded as there is no further information.

AliceOlive · 21/06/2023 18:05

President Carter and Rosalyn have been huge supporters of Habitat for Humanity here. It's a really wonderful organization.

He deserved the award but I think it was more about his endeavors outside of governing than his time in office.

grass321 · 23/06/2023 07:29

Can you imagine Haz sitting down with Putin? And talking about difficult childhoods. I have severe second hand embarrassment.

Not to mention that the Royals won't wear jewellery with any question marks over possible Russian provenance. Then there's the small matter of the war in Ukraine. Does he not read the papers?

Maireas · 23/06/2023 07:32

I think that's interesting, @tigger2022 . He guest edited R4 programme a few years ago, and got people of importance to talk to him. I think he's just used to picking up a phone and others cooperating. That's always been his privilege.

MarcelProust · 23/06/2023 07:43

You couldn't make it...................
Oh, but you can.

I spoke to people with knowledge of the situation about what ideas the prince floated and why none of them ever came to fruition. They requested anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak about his work. Spotify declined to comment, as did Archewell Audio.

The new buzzword is 'people in the know'. Thanks WSJ.
Now that Harry has been suing the press, other publications that I never thought were involved in suspicious activity have come out of the blue with attacks on him and Meghan.

The other day it was The Economist and The Spectator came out with a gossip shrill named 'Cockburn' - I kid you not, complete with a photoshopped picture of Meghan with acne😅

Harry spoke with multiple producers and production houses, these people said, to discuss possible shows.

These people said......

Seriously.

justasking111 · 23/06/2023 08:38

They live in California which has it's own problems. Maybe support charities there. LA has huge problems they'd be appreciated and would shine a light into dark corners, raise money and improve lives

It does show the level of entitlement and arrogance. I briefly thought of H and M when I was listening to my favourite podcast last night. It’s made by two brothers who are teachers and they talk about the lots of funny things to do with the world of education. They started five years ago recording it in a bedroom. They’ve now got hundreds of thousands of followers, written two books and had a successful national live tour. They have popped up on various tv shows to talk about school issues.
They are two ordinary guys who done well because they have something to say. H has nothing and apparently expected other people to come up with ideas and then make it happen on his behalf. It’s so pathetic and embarrassing.

MrsFinkelstein · 23/06/2023 09:19

The article does show why Spotify execs may have gotten frustrated with him. His ideas were well above his ability.
And it doesn't look like he was willing to compromise as he produced zero output at all.

"these people said"

tigger2022 · 23/06/2023 09:21

My guess is the source is the “f-ing grifters” guy again 😂

MrsFinkelstein · 23/06/2023 10:19

People don't seem to understand journalism and sourcing stories.

Unless it's negative about the RF, in which case its all believable!

Bloomberg is a respected news source. They credibly source and report. And they weren't being negative, just that Harry had unrealistic ideas, as did many celebs who were bored during Covid and thought podcasts were an easy way to pass the time and still get their money.

This is really shocking and if it's true, it just shows how really thick he is. This is not about educational level or intellectual brilliance - just an excruciating idiocy. He goes on about being called a 'thicko' by the press but this more than justifies that lable.

On so many levels.

It shows a total lack of awareness of who Putin is and what he has done.

It shows a total lack of self-awareness of Harry's own experience, skills and ability.
It is delusional that Putin would even consider it for a second let alone agree.

Like you say its cringeworthy.

The professional skill required to interview Putin successfully and without finding a bucket of pollonium in your bedroom afterwards doesn't bear thinking about.

tigger2022 · 23/06/2023 10:46

I actually think it’s more to do with the way rich men are trying to use mental health (by which they don’t mean mental health at all) to elicit empathy whenever they do something terrible. It’s an excuse that in our current culture can’t be argued with. “Sorry I called the men in my command by racial slurs, but it’s my father’s fault for never telling me he was proud of me.” Domestic abusers do the same “sorry I hit you, it’s because my mum left my dad.” That’s absolutely not anything to do with tried and tested methods of psychotherapy, it’s about refusing to take responsibility.

Boulshired · 23/06/2023 10:48

I honestly think if this was said about trump and Putin, it’s a breakdown in tone and sarcasm and lost in translation.

BoohooWoohoo · 23/06/2023 10:56

Maybe this is a way to get ahead of the fucking grifters story so its impact is reduced when it inevitably becomes public knowledge.
I am hoping that it's not true because so cringed when I read that.

Very true. I think there has been a trend of using "mental health" as a blanket term to excuse bad behaviour and to remove agency & responsibility. From men & women, but mainly men recently.

Maybe? But if anything it backs up the grifters story - as Harry had ideas for podcasts that were unrealistic and wouldn't listen to advice, causing frustration.

Also the fact he produced zero content in 2 years. The impression I got from all the reporting is that if he couldn't do his own ideas he lost interest in doing anything.

I agree, but don't think it's mainly men. Based on the number of times it comes up on MN (usually when people disagree with a poster, or point out something that goes against their narrative, or says they need to take responsibility for some share of the events)

grass321 · 23/06/2023 11:29

When Harry was a royal, people might take his calls, and humour him at least. Because he was a royal and they were being polite. But he clearly thinks it was due to him as a person, not his position.

There's a gulf between Harry the royal and Harry the insightful journalist/podcast host. He has a hugely inflated sense of self worth and isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the box. Add in the constant whinge-athon and I can't honestly believe Spotify ever signed him up in the first place.

TripleDaisySummer · 23/06/2023 11:31

I'm surprised everyone went for podcasts - as I think they'd be some serious work - why not audio books or voice overs which still take work but more in celebs and very least actors wheel houses. Staged - was fantastic - they were all actors/writers/directors anyway just finding new way of using tech and getting out there.
