I've probably garbled that, but that's the gist of it.

I wonder how much the legal fees are for fighting the £8k costs?

polkadotdalmation · 27/05/2023 15:24

Haywirecity · 27/05/2023 11:23

There's been no court ruling on costs yet, its just newspapers speculating. And I think the speculated £8,000 is for part of the case not the whole case of £300,000.

No its a FOI release, so it must be more than speculation

Haywirecity · 27/05/2023 15:32

The freedom of information request is for the amount run up. Thats factual.
There's been no ruling by the judge on costs so far. So amounts that Harry might need to pay are speculation.

polkadotdalmation · 27/05/2023 18:50

I also heard but not sure how true it is, but on the court papers harry used the title, HRH Duke of Sussex. He's not allowed to use HRH.
Anyone know if this is true?

Haywirecity · 27/05/2023 18:56

Yes, he used HRH in the court case. He still has that title but can't use it relation to any of his business affairs.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/05/2023 19:49

I think the palace said he'd no longer use HRH and left it at that, Haywirecity? - the link to the statement's below and it doesn't mention business affairs, just that they're no longer working members

Personally I couldn't care less what he calls himself, though the "I'll do what the hell I want" impression it gives seems par for the course

I think this actually bodes well for Harry. Surely if the judge was going to rule against Harry for being out of time, he'd have done it at the same time as he ruled against Hugh Grant.

I had reached the opposite conclusion. I didn't follow exactly what was said as justification for not understanding what had happened re hacking with Harry until 2016 but the court did seem to take quite a hard line with HG re the phones.

But they had different reasons for not taking action earlier. Hugh Grant said he didnt know because the Sun had denied it. Harry said, well, he gave contradicting evidence. First he said he didn't know. Then he said he did know but was told to do nothing. So we don't really know what the actual truth is. (Nothing new there where H is concerned.) But the judge has ruled on HG on being out of time, so maybe H's claim about the RF will have been given more weight.

Haywirecity · 27/05/2023 20:44

@Puzzledandpissedoff. Harry, Meghan and the children are all still HRH but they don't use the titles because they work as opposed to being working royals. So I guess they didn't want to see him trademarking it or it appearing on the side of milk cartons or something. 😆 He's still entitled to use HRH in a non working capacity otherwise they'd have removed it like they did with Diana.
Interestingly, though, when he took a court case while the Queen was still alive, he didn't use HRH. Who says the Queen was losing her grip? 😁

"I want privacy!"

"Don't look at me!"

( that is, unless me or my wife are receiving some prize, or I am promoting my book about my personal life. You can also watch my Netflix drama series about wanting privacy or listen to my Wife's Spotify podcasts for which she got paid really well. If you buy my book (super interesting bits about my private life and my privates there) or a Netflix sub, even better. You can also watch Oprah's interview with us with juicy bits about my private conversations with Pa. But please don't buy the Daily Fail! Other than that, I want some pri-va-cy!)

Definition of privacy:

"Privacy is the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves or information about themselves, and thereby express themselves selectively."

So it seems they're doing it correctly. What's the issue?

TrashyPanda · 28/05/2023 00:13

OED definition of privacy is somewhat different

  1. the state of being alone and not watched or disturbed by other people
  2. the state of being free from the attention of the public

neither is compatible with attending publicised events or releasing hyperbolic press statements.

Coronateachingagain · 28/05/2023 10:20

@queentimyou you may peruse all the threads on your question at Mumsnet at your own leisure but in a nutshell, at least in the UK, they want us to have their cake and eat it.

Anyways it looks like you can have a peek at their private lives if you are willing to pay for it 😅

Coronateachingagain · 28/05/2023 10:22

Oh, and according to asco ir, they never wanted privacy 😂

I don't think they ever really wanted privacy, maybe Harry dreamt of a quiet life in Africa to start with, but Meghan clearly wants to be in the public eye.

I think they felt that they weren't fully recognised in the RF and didn't see why others in the hierarchy (like the actual Queen) should take precedence over their fabulousness. And didn't like being told what they should and shouldn't say and do by employees of the RF, for the benefit of the family as a whole. They wanted to be in control, shape their own image and make a lot of money.

Unfortunately, judging by the polls and the worldwide ridicule, it seems that those royal employees (who have a lot of experience and make their living doing PR and comms) are a lot better at it than they are.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if their marriage is in trouble - Meghan seems ready to move on now, she carefully distanced herself from the book, new hair, new agent etc. I'm sure her next project will be announced soon, whether that's content creation for Netflix or Kardashian/Paltrow style lifestyle and merch. But Harry is clearly still very resentful about a lot of family stuff, which will never be resolved to his satisfaction if he keeps comparing himself to his brother. Plus he is stuck in a whole bunch of litigation that will drag on and on and cost him £££. Not an easy place to be for someone whose mental health is fragile and who has hardly any family to rely on. God knows what will happen if they do split up - how will he make a living and what will his options be, staying in US to be near the children but with little support, or come back to the UK, try to fix things with William and rejoin the RF?

tigger2022 · 28/05/2023 12:29

I feel like a lot of this including Harry’s never ending wars and complaining, is not what Meghan signed up for. She seemed a lot happier and more confident before she got married. She’s made some mistakes but I have always liked her; sometimes in a high pressure situation people adopt the worst traits of the toxic people around them.

True enough - and who knows if Harry's access being restricted to the less able ones is feeding his clear resentment?

I may not like (and don't) the games royal PR folk play, but there's no denying they're pretty good at it on the whole

They managed to make Harry really popular, which seems like no mean feat now that we know him better!

Agree with all this. I think H has boxed himself into a corner good and proper.

AliceOlive · 28/05/2023 13:06

This is a definition I agree with and I do understand why they would desire it:

"Privacy is the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves or information about themselves, and thereby express themselves selectively."

But it would be very difficult to have this and celebrity at the same time. I think it’s possible but would require decades with the right strategy to build a following while maintaining control over image and privacy.

I don’t think they wanted to take that time. It seemed like they had a foundation to launch themselves but have not exercised the patience and restraint.

Very true.

he was marketed as friendly, funny and relateeable.

now his own words and actions reveal a very bitter, unkind and snobby man. Most unattractive. Wouldn’t be surprised if Meghan is unhappy with her life and feels trapped.

Isnt that just called “spin”??

AliceOlive · 28/05/2023 13:13

I don’t think it’s spin. I think it’s just selective exposure. You don’t need to share everything with everyone.

I wish we knew less about loads of people. Every have an artist, author or musician that you liked until you learned more about them?
