I've probably garbled that, but that's the gist of it.

@Ellaelle

a lot of retired police officers move into ‘private security’ upon retirement from the force

Camilla’s protection back then would no longer be ‘active’ police officers but ‘retired’ police officers just like Meghan and Harry’s head of security is an ex Secret service not an active secret service

OK so if he shouldn't be able to hire them then are you saying this should be provided to him via the tax payer?

You do realise he is the current King's son, not only that he has fought in some war or other, not to mention the crazies who want to lynch his wife. They do deserve proper armed security.

It is quite sad that they are not allowed proper security paid for or otherwise. Anyhow good luck to all concerned

He has armed Security right now - in the US, the country in which he resides. He pays for it.

On the rare occasions he comes to the UK his private security are not allowed to be armed. As he is the son of a King (thanks for pointing that out btw) RAVEC do continually assess his security risk, so if he was visiting the UK and they felt there was a significantly increased risk he would be given Royal Police Protection during his stay.

He would get RPP if he stayed with his father or his brother regardless of his personal risk level, or stayed within the grounds of a Royal residence.

Where's the article its behind a pay wall?

No it isn’t. I just clicked on it. Unless you are not in the UK, perhaps?

KrasiTime · 24/05/2023 07:49

Right decision imo. If you quit your job you don’t get to keep the company car or laptop. Same principle, even if you are the boss’s son.

Howsimplywonderful · 24/05/2023 07:58

@smilesy

I don’t think the OP is in the U.K.

Observationalanomaly · 24/05/2023 08:04

Just the thought of Harry imagining himself worthy of 'International Protected Person' status makes me laugh out of loud. What a delusional idiot that man is

DuchessOfPort · 24/05/2023 08:08

the result of this is not even about Harry - the H&M superfans can’t seem to understand that this isn’t a personal vendetta, it’s to keep the door closed on having the Met police for hire by any random wealthy person.

If he got the opportunity to pay for it - and I don’t think he ever wanted to, it was a sop to people saying he was costing the taxpayer - then any Oligarch, any corrupt Saudi Crown Prince with the best London lawyers, any travelling despot, etc etc could hire our highly trained police protection officers and by extension their intelligence. We don’t need any of them risking their lives for MBS, as an example. It would have set a frightening precedent, which Prince Harry obviously didn’t think or care about. It’s not all about him!

if he’s in danger, he WILL get taxpayer funded protection officers! Which is excellent! But if he’s not in danger according to all their intelligence (these people he wants so much) then his own unarmed security is fine!

He's also pissed off the Taliban, let's not forget.

Yes and he was happy to rack up $10million per stupid 'revelation' on book & Netflix interviews but apparently is surprised his family is now a Taliban target. With hindsight he is entitled to the point of blind arrogance. A lack of intelligence and inability to listen to advice.

Ellaelle · 24/05/2023 08:20

Serenster · 24/05/2023 08:23

The Guardian is free to all users, Ellaelle.

@Ellaelle - you are engaging in whatabouttery, which is a logical fallacy. If you want your posts to be taken seriously, please engage with the facts.

I wouldn't bother. That poster is either on a wind up or wilfully ignorant.

Haywirecity · 24/05/2023 08:41

The Guardian isn't a subscription paper. They fund themselves through donations.

So irksome when what is a reasonable polite conversation gets derailed like that.

Oh no, and I was so close to coming round to their point of view.

8roses · 24/05/2023 09:08

Given the shit show that was the Ms awards, the idea that any of their goons would have access to guns is quite chilling 😂

TrashyPanda · 24/05/2023 09:18

Who is this “Princess Meghan” person?

apart from a figment of an overactive imagination?

no such person. As that poster has been told multiple times. Think that shows they are just trying to wind people up.

TrashyPanda · 24/05/2023 09:19

The Guardian is not behind a paywall and never has been.

if you read the pop-up, it is perfectly clear. They don’t want to turn readers away!!

Florissant · 24/05/2023 09:25

Ellaelle · 24/05/2023 07:36

Where's the article its behind a pay wall?

If you are referring to The Guardian article, it is not behind a paywall as The Guardian does not have a paywall policy.

Florissant · 24/05/2023 09:27

You guys and your facts and knowledge and information. I don't know how you guys do it, other than you guys are very clever.

AutumnCrow · 24/05/2023 09:30

The dear old MailOnline is reporting Harry’s costs for this odd little legal outing as approx £500k.

Although it’s an article in need of a re-write, I’d have said. Not exactly crystal clear. But anyway, his own costs are going to be substantial. And he doesn’t want to contribute toward the taxpayers’ portion.

The husband of Princess Meghan is down to his last tens of millions, alas.
