The royal family

Do you think the royals will be more relaxed now?

Last year at the Jubilee concert, I remember Rose Ayling Ellis being interviewed (I think with Shirley Ballas) and they were saying how they were sat in the royal box for the concert and they had to remain seated and it was going to be hard to stay sat still for the duration.

At the time, i remember thinking how everyone in the entire box sat during the whole concert.

In contrast, on Sunday night, to see the way all of them were on their feet dancing and singing along looked like they were having so much fun - Sophie in particular looked like she was living her best life!

Do you think some of the formalities that were under the queen might now be loosened up under Charles? I'm thinking of some of the previous "rules" like how no one was allowed coloured nail polish because HMQ didn't like it etc

I was wondering the same. The whole day weekend felt less formal, even the horses must have had chilli flakes in their breakfast they were so spicey!!

Yes, I think the Queen was lovely but really hidebound by tradition that is long gone. I think now the strict dress code will be relaxed and I hope the royals can be a bit more like normal (ish) people.

During the Jubilee, they were bearing the knowledge of the Queen's ill health - if you remember, she was only able to participate minimally in the celebrations which must have cast a pall over them for her close family.

Yeah, that's an absolutely valid point

But it just struck me by how much more relaxed they seemed during the concert. As I said in my OP, I loved seeing them cut loose and have fun. I think it made me smile because it was such a different way of seeing them

Yes I thought the same. It was nice to see the Royals having a little jig.

I sort of hope they don’t cut too loose, at least in public. It makes the moments of informality that bit more special. BUT, I did love seeing Sophie mum dancing on Saturday night!

I think there’s already been little changes with how often Sophie and Kate have been wearing trousers for official engagements.

More selfies is the change I've noticed

@thebellagio for me it was the jubilee parade where Louis sat on KC (PoW at the time) knee. It was the first time I recalled that happening and thought then it would be different going forward.

I do think the taking selfies, releasing the behind the scenes clips, children in casual clothes at the big help out etc. is showing a different approach.

I think they've shifted about as much as they're going to do for the time being but it does seem a bit more relaxed. They're now all people who listened to pop music as teenagers, went to night clubs, and are generally much less sheltered than QEII was.

thebellagio · 10/05/2023 22:19

I agree @Premiumbondbaby it was lovely to see Charles with Louis just messing about a bit.

I’ve also noticed the more selfies. I could have sworn that previously they were told they weren’t allowed to do that, so that’s a definite change.

The social media approach from KP seems very different as well. Slicker. Yet more accessible

Yes definitely agree, lovely to see them more relaxed. The concert was great! Loved Sophie 💞

I mean, with the alleged sex trafficking (PA), dressing as nazis and taking hallucinogenic drugs (PH), flagrant racism (PP), toe sucking, dodgy cash and infidelity abounding it seems they’ve all been rather bloody lax for years. Perhaps they want to tighten up a bit now!
