The royal family

What would the coronation be like if Diana had lived?

I know this is a very strange question - but I woke up this morning wondering about it. I have absolutely no idea why. I am not in the least bit interested in the coronation.

So I went back to what might have happened if she lived. Maybe she would have married Dodi and had a baby but it then would have broken up as she realised the expectations of a Fayed wife. Behind closed doors - seen but not heard. Then maybe a series of relationships with property barons, celebs and euro riche. Summers spent lounging on mediterranean yachts, winters in Verbier and Turks and Caicos, maybe some Hollywood and Miami hols.

Increasingly the boys would've been channelled into university, the armed forces, marriage and children - increasingly fenced in by royal convention and duty. That awkward Ex thing at graduations and passings outs, marriages and christenings..... And then the Coronation....

I think she'd have exited the country for the weekend's ceremonies and spectacle - and instead been papped partying on a sail boat in the WhitSundays with a bunch of friends and a handsome younger man.

And maybe not. Maybe a life like Princess Margaret... or maybe a happy ever after. What do you think?

I can't believe I even started thinking this way. Not even sure I will take any notice at all of the Coronation.

It doesn't matter if you're divorced now, when it comes to the church.

Lady Diana Khan

😃It's funny that you should say that. There was a brief situation where Diana had the hots for a famous Khan who was married to her friend but it was all taken in good humour. She could be something of a man eater.

That"s very misogonistic, outdated term.

Have you read some of the other things said about her in the past 24 hours and your woke sensor pings at that? Smh

A three ring circus!

Tbf Diana had no experience of 'normal' family life and relationships.
Her parents marriage was a shitshow and so was hers.

Yes, I agree. She was a late developer when it came to emotional maturity in relationships (rather like Harry). However, she could also use that to her advantage at times. Apparently, she was the only person who could literally barge in upset and see the Queen without making an appointment.

if Diana had lived she would have LOVED Kate (boring, lower class than her, shiny hair but not about to upstage her or rock the boat in anyway) but HATED Meghan, I’d say. There’s no way Diana would have let a beautiful American woman upstage her and get more press, and let her fuck up any possibility of William being a king. Not a chance. A nightmare of a mother in law.

Hard to surmise what a woman who has been dead over 25 years would have thought of Meghan. 😒

Still whilst on the subject of surmising, doubt Diana would have been at the Coronation. Possibly have been more difficult for the GBP to accept Camilla if Diana was still alive, despite the PR machine.

Potentially if Diana was still alive, Harry " may" not have felt the need to leave. Who knows? She's been gone a long time.

@Pugdogmom i know. I’m taking the piss. I couldn’t give a shit about the royals really and would vote to abolish the monarchy were we ever to have a referendum. It’s just fun to talk about, with the context we have (Diana somehow being seen as a saint since she died, when actually when she was alive she was largely reported to be a loony nightmare other woman harassing the married men she saw, and their families).

i AM glad they’re acting like proper royals again though with all the in-fighting . The schtick of ‘just like us’ got old. Now if they could just pop Harry in the tower and behead andrew I’d probably become a royalist.

I like to think she would have found her happy ever after. She was so young when she died, I'm sure she would have eventually remarried and had more children

Diana would absolutely be in California for Archie's birthday party, not at the boring old coronation. Wink

Rubbish, she'd have been there in her capacity as Mother of the future King & Grandmother of the one after that. She understood royalty and aristocracy extremely well and much more than some of the current royal spouses. With the advent of the Internet and social media she could have had a nicer life with a wealthy OH doing amazing work for charity around the world as a sort of peace ambassador. She would have looked incredible at the coronation and I doubt KC would have been able to marry CPB.

I actually had the surgeon Hasnat Khan in mind, as he seems to be the person Diana came closest to marrying - by all accounts Charles was in favour of this happening.

That sounds deeply unlikely to me. She was a fairly troubled individual who had never managed to overcome the effects of a dysfunctional background and an unhappy early adult life, all played out in public, plus she had disastrously poor judgement in relationships, choosing married, unobtainable or otherwise unsuitable men — she would have had a lot of work to do to get from where she was when she died to making a functional marriage at an age when another child was a possibility. And with the press turning against her.

Sudeko · 07/05/2023 17:50

Hasnat wasn't keen on committing. I don't know whether it was on cultural or religious grounds but his marriage to somebody else was a disaster.

In fairness, if someone came on here and said his new squeeze was keeping him a secret, but regularly showed up at his workplace to watch him operating and to sleep overnight in his on-call room, had acquired a wardrobe of clothes from his home culture and was exploring converting to his religion, had decorated a special room for him in her house, and had made enquiries about a secret marriage, they’d be told to run for the hills!

True! She sure did get infatuated with some of them. Oliver Hoare also springs to mind. 😂

I think she would have become friends with Charles

Yes apparently they'd made peace with each other shortly before she died.

AskMeMore · 08/05/2023 17:04

Charles and the Palace can claim anything now she has died.
She did not say she had made peace with Charles.

Wintersgirl · 08/05/2023 18:01

Where did I say Charles and the Palace said that? Here you go...

She was said to be on good terms with Charles before her death. According to Tina Brown’s book “The Diana Chronicles,” released in 2008, the couple had become friends after the divorce, though Diana was said to have still had feelings for the prince.

Butteredtoast55 · 08/05/2023 18:19

I am not sure if she'd have attended Charles' coronation to be honest. Williams, yes, but not necessarily Charles'. I think she'd be onto her third marriage+ by now and would have tested her relationship with her sons more than once. They may well have married different people but, unlike a PP, I think Diana would have been wildly jealous of Kate especially as she's somewhat cemented as the nation's favourite these days. She's everything Diana wasn't in some ways: from a stable and living family, calm, seemingly happy and ok with who she is.
I think she'd have absolutely latched onto Meghan and her way of life as she was always very keen on wellbeing, spiritual exploration and philanthropy, not to mention celebrity. I'm not sure it would have been a sincere attachment on either side.
Her death at such a young age was tragic but has captured her forever as young, dazzlingly attractive and full of life. Who knows what would have happened over time in terms of her public image (she was, remember, 'taken at her most beautiful' according to that hideously self-righteous shit, Earl Spencer). It's all speculation so that's just my two penn'orth.
