I focus on funding education - because that makes a long term difference. But do make short term gifts of money when someone I trust asks, because I recognise that when you have no reserves you can suddenly be in a desperate situation through no fault of your own.

Meghan didn't over share for cash. She and Harry felt it was right to put the record straight from their points of view, being as so much was said about them in the press that was negative . I don't blame them one bit for that but it's been done and time to move on. Her family are excruciatingly embarrassing apart from her mother. I did have sympathy with her dad who was rather used by the media; he was vulnerable and taken advantage of. However then he went on to publicise a private letter his daughter had sent to him, which was not at all mean. What kind of a father does that?

I have family and friends in SA, through DD and through living there. I try to use my privilege to help those who have historically been oppressed.

Should I just turn my back?

what people? DD's family? I know them, we stay in touch. The young people I pay school/uni fees for? Why should they 'know' me? They have more than earned their place at school/uni. They don't owe me.

So to get back on track.... I watched the program and didn't much care for the adult children, but could see their anger and protectiveness, at how their dad had been treated. However I felt so sad for Thomas in the final interview with just him. Begging his daughter to reconnect. I hope she sees it, because even I as a stranger, was moved by his distress. I hope the father at least reconciles with his daughter. That would really raise her ratings.

I've started watching i on Youtube. I have to say her father looks and sounds different, unwell, as if he has had a stroke. Why on earth is he allowing himself to be dragged into such a thing? His two older children are just plain jealous and chavvy.

Why did you feel the need to include the comment about logical thinking skill? It's very rude.

My time in SA was life changing, the friends I made there from very different communities even more so! I wouldn't change it for the world. It was eye opening, but also made me realise what I can do to make a difference. His son sat beside him has been on YouTube saying Doria should have swallowed Meghan, dressed in black face to defame her, utterly sickening and disgusting.

@LBFseBrom don't feel sorry for him, he is as vile and disgusting as the rest of them. If Mumsnet were allowing images, i'd give you a rundown of all the nasty things he's done. Including going on the YouTube channels of conspiracy theorists abusing Meghan.

That is sickening isn’t it. Meghan seemed to be quite sad at the breakdown of her relationship with her father. He is too close to these awful siblings for her to risk contact. They are disturbing.

I keep coming back to this, because there are significant numbers of people who object to someone white adopting a black child.

DD's story is her own, and I won't go into details. But she was abandoned, neglected and abused by members of her birth family who should have cared for her.

She has extended family who love her very much, but were not in a position to look after her full time, and are very much part of her life and keep her connected to her birth family.

She has previous carers who remain part of our extended family, and continue to be valuable parts of DD's life, and help her remain in contact with her community of origin.

I will always try to use my privilege to help those who don't have the advantage of good education and healthcare. You can sneer as much as you like - what are you doing/giving?

I am still watching. Yes, Thomas Markle has had a stroke, he really is in a bad way. It seems that his two older children are now exploiting his vulnerability.

DD is thriving, I'm happy to say. In her mid teens now, and with a healthy sense of her identity. As a black African, with a white British adoptive mother. And a great range of relationships with her birth family and members of her community of origin. Plus an understanding of the benefits of living in the UK, where she experiences less racism than she did in SA.

'their type' - what do you know about me? I met DD while working in SA, and had no plans to adopt. But she needed a parent, and I fell for her little toddler self. She has been the centre of my life for over a decade.

Really, this post is just weird. It says far more about you than it does about me...
