Sorry, for it

Sudeko · 01/05/2023 15:50

mixedrecycling · 01/05/2023 15:46

how dare you criticise their blessed union?!

😁Believe me, I really root for couples who have to face social and racial prejudice and really want to see it last. I actually know that those prejudices are real and should not be minimised.
However, there is a massive social, intellectual and ambitions mismatch going on here from the very beginning. Hand on heart, they are so different that beyond the time consuming baby stage, I don't even see what they will even have to talk about.

mixedrecycling · 01/05/2023 15:53

I agree. Obviously only because I am racist/misogynist/uneducated etc etc 😂

Sudeko · 01/05/2023 15:45

Who knows whether they are happy or not? The fans insist it is the greatest love story on earth, the critics see the usual cracks (feigned joyousness, blaming external factors for creating animosity instead of accepting that you took it too fast and may not be all that compatible). The energy of their relationship is definitely off but that could be influenced by both internal and external pressures, some of which are self-created.

I have a nuanced view - I don’t think they have the world greatest love story however I see normal interactions between them hyperanalysed and pathologists repeatedly by many. Taking a recent example - they were at a game for about 90 minutes where they had a variety of expressions and interactions with each other - from watching the game intently, greeting people they knew, sharing a joke, refusing kiss cam, cheering the team, talking

Well, create a court of justice here on MN!

No the RoyAl family should not be exempt.

skullbabe · 01/05/2023 16:25

sorry got cut off...

Taking a recent example - they were at a game fora works do for about 90 minutes where they had a variety of expressions and interactions with each other - from watching the game intently, greeting people they knew, sharing a joke, refusing kiss cam, cheering the team, talking and being surprised at a foul call. Reducing the entirety of their interactions to feigned joyousness or others for their more serious moments, stating that these are evidence of the cracks in their relationship, is not fair nor is it reasonable.

They both like Friends. Perhaps all they do is watch reruns of Friends and bang each other in between episodes?

Is that it? Oh my word. Is it Meghan who's insinuating stuff or stuff you're making up because you don't like her. It's a list of conversations she had

She definitely conflated three issues: he wouldn’t get security, he wouldn’t be titled a prince and his skin tone.
relevant bits are here, but you should really watch it to make up your own mind. You can’t really accuse someone of making stuff up, when you openly say you haven’t seen it or read the transcript.

Oprah: You certainly must have had some conversations with Harry about it and have your own suspicions as to why they didn’t want to make Archie a prince. What are . . .  what are those thoughts? Why do you think that is? Do you think it’s because of his race? And I know that’s a loaded question, but…

Meghan: But I can give you an honest answer. In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time . . .  so we have in tandem the conversation of ‘He won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.

….

Meghan: It was really hard to be able to see those as compartmentalised conversations.
Oprah: Because they were concerned that if he were too brown, that that would be a problem? Are you saying that?

Meghan: I wasn’t able to follow up with why, but that — if that’s the assumption you’re making, I think that feels like a pretty safe one, which was really hard to understand, right?

So she’s saying she found it hard to see the security and title questions as compartmentalised from the skin tone comments. Oprah asked was it because of his race, and she didn’t say ‘no, I don’t think that’ she just said these conversations were happening ‘in tandem’, which is the insinuation that they were related to each other

But as I said, you should really watch it yourself to make your own opinion.

skullbabe · 01/05/2023 16:34

Hand on heart, they are so different that beyond the time consuming baby stage, I don't even see what they will even have to talk about.

They will talk about what they talked about in the year they dated before they became engaged and whatever they talked about after they got married. I agree - they are different and good luck to them. They will need it - there's the interacial aspect, the different countries same language aspect and the very real aspect of people who wish them harm.

Why do you care what they will talk about once the baby stage is over? You could say that about any married couple. Marriage is hard work for us all.

Should she have compartmentalised them?

Stemmingthetide · 01/05/2023 16:43

@RockyboobooWe've only heard H&M's side because the RoyAl family have kept quiet but surely if it's been insinuated that they are a racist organisation then they should speak up and defend themselves.”

M by her own admission was not present during the discussion (s). Harry, who was present, has stated it was one comment and it was not racist but unconscious bias.

Prince William has stated they are not a racist family.

They're the RoyAl family paid for by the British taxpayer. It they've been accused of racism which I believe is covered under The Equality Act, it's serious.

We have evidence whether it was said in an official capacity or as a family discussion. We also have no other evidence or context except endless press, SM and perceptions from our own lives.

It was obvious watching the Oprah interview H was not expecting Meghan to have strongly implied racism and he tried to row back slightly on camera without undermining his wife. He then subsequently completely rowed back.

The US Uk cultural difference I referred to are like the private wedding - in the UK you need to be in a place approved for marriage and 2 witnesses. Meghan and Oprah didn’t know that but a British interviewer would.

The not realising about curtsying behind closed doors, not knowing what to wear on an official visit etc. We are bombarded with images, film’s etc all our lives and it’s easy to forget how much we absorb without realising that Meghan would not have been exposed to on a routine basis.

Well that would certainly explain why they can only manage one hour a week of work - sounds exhausting!🤣

Stemmingthetide · 01/05/2023 16:48

Sorry should have said “we have no evidence …”

IamSuperTired · 01/05/2023 16:53

Well I finally had a chance to watch it!! Not overly exciting :) and nothing we didn't already know! But, I still feel sorry for Megs dad!

Don't really understand how he couldn't be forgiven a couple of mistakes when he's supported Meghan her whole life. Don't know why she is still in touch with Doria when she abandoned her for several years of her life, yet can't bring herself to talk to her father, who has loved her and supported her her whole life, and made her into the person she is today :(

Mind you, I also don't get why Harry's been so cruel to his family.

In my opinion, both fathers tried their best, both love their kids hugely, and both made mistakes as they are human. I think Megs and Harry have a lot to learn about humanity, forgiveness and parenting. They act like teenagers, and while both have made massive mistakes themselves, neither seem prepared to accept their parents as loving, yet flawed humans. As we all are.

You cannot have unconscious bias without racism and so although it sounds softer - it really is the same thing.

Prince William’s grandfather arguably was racist so it is a stretch to say the family was not racist - especially as said grandfather was very much still alive at the time.

The conversation about Archie’s race was happening in conjunction with discussions about Archie’s status - the royal family is trying to slim down due to concerns about the burden on the public purse and therefore this conversation is part of matters concerning the Head of State.

Harry repeated their private ceremony story in Spare - make of that what you will that he included that after the significant amount of chatter that story raised here on MN and elsewhere when Meghan recounted it.

So she said when asked if the security and titles were connected to race and she said 'no I don't think that'.

She didn't say the Royal family were racist. She said she struggled to compartmentalize the 3 conversations which is talking about her thoughts and feelings rather and wondering if she it took it the wrong way

Now you can think that she was insinuating the Royal family are racist but you don't like Meghan so you're going to see bad in whatever she says it does.

No, she didn’t, that’s the point. I’ve posted the transcript. Not sure where you’ve got she said that, you clearly haven’t read my post properly.

She agreed with Oprah it was a safe assumption.
