One thing to bear in mind is in relation to the RF we have only heard H & Ms version of events. It’s easy to criticise the RF without having heard their version.

I also think there is a lot of taking what the media says as fact and not critically assessing it. The media are racist and misogynistic, they like to create division and disagreement. Yes, they were racist about Meghan (and many others over the decades) and the spin they put on any story will come from that background. That doesn’t mean the RF are racist.

There is also the cultural differences between US and UK. Plus the fact Harry clearly did not prepare Meghan.

All very good points

How dare you apply common sense? 😂

I think cultural misunderstandings and the sprint into matrimony (hit the ground running) are the reason for a lot of the problems.

It's not common sense because we have free speech in this country and if you've been accused of racism and it was false, why would you not want to give your side. Keeping quiet is not good enough.

What are the cultural differences that caused this?

Who has been accused of racism?

The only people making accusations of rascism - as I understand it - are H&M and @Whaeanui ?

The barefoot ripped jeans and spontaneous hug?

Keeping quiet is a perfectly valid argument as is airing your point of view. Once you start to be drawn into 'he said/she said', back and forth arguments, pulling apart the minutiae of the conversation, refute, deflect and defend.... it starts to look like mumsnet RF section.

And is equally pointless and confusing.

We've only heard H&M's side because the RoyAl family have kept quiet but surely if it's been insinuated that they are a racist organisation then they should speak up and defend themselves.

Rockybooboo · 01/05/2023 15:35

Oh my god how petty. I'm bloody British and I don't see the problem with bare foot jeans and hugs. Please explain further.

I wouldn't want to hug my BIL's girlfriend the first time I met her. Once we had a relationship - yes, if I liked her. No, if not. And if that was an example of being 'stuck up'? Plus not wanting to share lip gloss has been used on this board as proof that Kate is 'stuckup' and 'up tight', Though any number of people have said they wouldn't feel comfortable.

Why? Anyone can throw any accusation against them and they are obliged to respond?

They're the RoyAl family paid for by the British taxpayer. It they've been accused of racism which I believe is covered under The Equality Act, it's serious.

Stemming bought up the racism at 1516.

Well, create a court of justice here on MN!

Sorry - hear, not here

Sudeko · 01/05/2023 15:45

Who knows whether they are happy or not? The fans insist it is the greatest love story on earth, the critics see the usual cracks (feigned joyousness, blaming external factors for creating animosity instead of accepting that you took it too fast and may not be all that compatible). The energy of their relationship is definitely off but that could be influenced by both internal and external pressures, some of which are self-created.

The Freedom of Information Act means that any person can make a request to see information held by public authorities which I would contend the Head of State and their household are. Exempt.
