On tonight BBC1 at 8pm if anybody is interested. Might be worth a watch. Called King Charles will he change the monarchy. I doubt it but will record it anyway to see what they have to say.

He's being kicked out of his mansion into a 4 bed house with his ex wife. He's had all his royal duties removed from him. He's barred from all ceremonial occasions that they can get away with, his honorary titles have been removed. he has had his personal life torn to shreds and has no respect from anyone except his direct family. He is hated worldwide. He wouldn't even be photographed in public if the press didn't conspire to print his photo.

Short of bricking him up in the tower, what else can anyone do?

I'm cynical that much will be actually done about him.
I had high hopes Charles was going to slim down the monarchy and there's no sign of that either.

Ultimately PA was enabled by the firm and given an inflated ego and sense of untouchability by the firm, and he was protected by the firm. It is an institution problem that individuals always come second to protecting the firm, which means they can do what they like as long as the institution remains protected.

polkadotdalmation · 30/04/2023 08:25

@LolaSmiles I don't like him any more than you do, but he's already had all of that withdrawn. I'm not sure when he moves out of his mansion. However he's another Harry as far as Charles is concerned. He's already threatened a spare type book, so he's got his family over a barrel, just blackmailing them really. Not a nice person at all.

Roussette · 30/04/2023 08:33

He won't be moving out. It's all over the media saying he won't. He wants somewhere regal befitting his position and Frogmore isn't that

Harry doesn't fraternise with two convicted sex offenders and traffickers

PollyThePixie · 30/04/2023 09:06

Why can't he be seen , just as others are when blessed or anointed ?

That part of the Coronation is always done in private.

PollyThePixie · 30/04/2023 09:08

CathyorClaire · 29/04/2023 20:35

The reason given by a spokesman is that it is to hide the private moment between Charles and god

I've just had a brief look at the reports on this.

Whole thing gets more ridiculously woo by the day.

It’s always a private part of the Coronation

Novella4 · 30/04/2023 09:21

@PollyThePixie

No it wasn't

When they pushed the 'I'm king by divine right ' line , it was a key part
The current lot know they can't ( well some idiot would fall for it ) say 'here by divine right' but they have kept every other bit of the whole divine right of kings theatre ( con)
The canopy was a reference to the fact that we mere subjects mustn't be privy to gods word in the kings shell like.

The cameras could have seen some of Elizabeth anointed but there were turned away

This opaque wooden screen is again NEW ( but muh tradition ! )
Why ?

Novella4 · 30/04/2023 09:35

This from Elizabeth's :

"Be thy head anointed with holy oil: as kings, priests, and prophets were anointed. And as Solomon was anointed king by Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet, so be you anointed, blessed and consecrated Queen over the Peoples, whom the Lord thy God hath given thee to rule and govern

This is an attempt to associate the Windsors with the divine .

Maybe , just maybe , they could get away with it 70 years ago and with a young inoffensive woman

Charles ?? In 2023 ? With all we know ?
Anointed like Solomon ?
No wonder he wants hidden

This is beyond parody

Sudeko · 30/04/2023 10:22

'Pledge allegiance' my arse 😂😂😂

Sudeko · 30/04/2023 10:24

That is the point at which you know for sure that it is a massive piss take of the peasants, devised during after dinner whiskies. It's all about seeing how far they can push the peasants before they revolt (again).

I so agree.

CathyorClaire · 30/04/2023 11:00

Other elements have been changed to suit so citing tradition isn't going to cut it. There is literally nothing to prevent the 'sacred' olive oil being daubed in public if that's the way the new king wants it.

I'm cynical that much will be actually done about him.

If anything the family are conniving in his public rehab.

He won't be moving out.

Agree.

I think the stories about him not being able to afford the bills are just that. He was once cited as the third richest royal at an estimated £56m. Even he can't have spent all of it on having £200K cars resprayed.

CathyorClaire · 30/04/2023 11:02

'Pledge allegiance' my arse

Oh, and this ^^ with bells on. I was watching the reports with my jaw on the floor.

As above. Beyond parody.

I never knew that about him, I have no clue about his personal fortune. Would that be from money his mother gave him? How do the others acquire their wealth? Just from what they inherit or have gifted? I’m assuming his mother gave him plenty while alive.

CathyorClaire · 30/04/2023 11:26

How do the others acquire their wealth? Just from what they inherit or have gifted?

Decades worth of tax breaks and sovereign to sovereign bequests being free of IHT have helped them amass fortunes. QM established trust funds but they're incredibly secretive so it's very hard to find details. Most of the figures are estimates but here's a link to the questions about how Andrew acquired his fortune:

CathyorClaire · 30/04/2023 11:35

He was getting £250k as a 'working' royal but that stopped when he stepped down.

Worth remembering his taste for dodgy billionaire friends didn't stop at Epstein. He sold his marital home for £3m over the asking price to one of them. Interesting article on that deal here:

Yes I can’t get my head around it at all.

Is Camilla going to be anointed too?

I know this is symbolic, and about the institution not the individual, but in this day and age, you’ve got to be deemed worthy of the honour for it to seem credible and appropriate.

Novella4 · 30/04/2023 11:40

@Flappingtarps
Yes Camilla will be anointed and crowned alongside him

Couldn't happen to a nicer couple !
( sarcasm - I've just read a royalist state she's had enough of hearing about poor people so I think I need to make it clear that I'm not a fan of the gruesome twosome

Nor me Novella4

Thinking about it, I understand we have an established church and I remember learning about the divine right of kings in school and how it has been disputed since the 16th century, but I think associating the role of monarch with Christianity in the 21st century is increasingly difficult isn’t it?

I’d love to know how the Archbishop of Canterbury looks at it? If you were truly serving your people and following the message of Jesus then wouldn’t you be doing so from a position of poverty and exclusion? Not with huge wealth at the heart of the establishment? I’ve never understood it. Perhaps a monarchist on here could explain it to me?
