On tonight BBC1 at 8pm if anybody is interested. Might be worth a watch. Called King Charles will he change the monarchy. I doubt it but will record it anyway to see what they have to say.

Amazing how some people who seem to spend their life on here saying how marvellous they all are apart from Harry and Meghan, are strangely absent from this thread.

Whaeanui · 25/04/2023 16:20

Yes it is!

Roussette · 25/04/2023 16:43

That link about the properties, Shock

There's nothing like a bit of pilfering and adding it to your own coffers, as opposed to a gift to the Sovereign and being public property is there...

Sudeko · 25/04/2023 17:39

I'd let him keep Dartmoor if he gave the rest back!

CathyorClaire · 25/04/2023 20:45

That link about the properties

I know, right?

Another interesting article from the same series showing Charles renting out £75m worth of property and the Sandringham estate having claimed over £15m in subsidies over the past twenty odd years.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/apr/19/landlord-king-charles-lets-out-homes-near-sandringham-worth-75m

That's in addition to the Q trying to claim heating allowance for BP...

A landlord king: Charles lets out homes near Sandringham worth £75m

Analysis of property titles reveals extraordinary extent of royal footprint in north Norfolk

the Sandringham estate having claimed over £15m in subsidies over the past twenty odd years.

Subsidies 😮

Roussette · 26/04/2023 09:59

Thanks @CathyorClaire

Yet more shock about the finances, the subterfuge and the dealings.

I have to say.... I know you and I don't see eye to eye on H&M, but on other royal matters we are as one, and I appreciate your posts!

Whaeanui · 26/04/2023 10:05

Honestly that article reveals things I just didn’t know. I really don’t like the idea of the King owning almost entire villages.

polkadotdalmation · 26/04/2023 10:10

Sandringham in Norfolk has 'villages', or conglomerations of housing. This housing is heavily subsidised. I know someone whose family lives in one of the cottages. The rent is tiny in comparison to standard rent. They are well maintained and most importantly they are guaranteed residency for life if they choose it. The local populations love these houses and the queue is massive to get one. Social housing with knobs on.

Well... he built Poundbury didn't he. A village in his own style, to his own taste and he owns. Some villagers love it, others are very restricted and not happy.
What a vanity project... very Truman show!

Whaeanui · 26/04/2023 10:16

@Roussette yes some villagers are quite angry aren’t they, because he made sure he was exempt from laws other land and property owners are subject to.

Thanks, Rousette 🙂and thanks for directing me to the Guardian series in the first place. There's another shocker now about Andrew (and others) sheltering shareholdings in shell companies to stop the plebs nosing. The extent of royal manoeuvring and smoke and mirrors now being revealed is astounding.

I try and keep off the H&M stuff as it gets a bit too heated for my available time and energy levels 😁

Novella4 · 26/04/2023 10:59

I've just seen that article

The spokesperson said it was private - like any other individual'
But 'any other individual' hasn't got sealed wills and inheritance tax dodges

Whaeanui · 26/04/2023 11:05

Oh I’ll have to go read that! Yes if they want to be treated like any other private citizen then they’ll have to actually be private citizens and not royals who are treated differently with respect to owning land, passing on inheritance and sealed wills.

CathyorClaire · 26/04/2023 11:09

But 'any other individual' hasn't got sealed wills and inheritance tax dodges

Neither do they get to lobby the government to enable them to hide their wealth.

From the article:

The monarch successfully lobbied the government to alter a draft law in order to permit the Windsors to hide the size and value of their shareholdings from the public.

The monarch successfully lobbied the government to alter a draft law in order to permit the Windsors to hide the size and value of their shareholdings from the public.

This is really terrible isn’t it.

Whaeanui · 26/04/2023 11:26

This is shocking:

Andrew’s use of the shell company, which has not previously been reported, is significant because he was a government “special trade envoy” at the same time. Through this role he would have had access to commercially sensitive information.
Transparency rules designed to expose potential conflicts of interest require government ministers and members of parliament to publicly declare any significant shares they own.
However, the royals are not subject to similar rules. There is no suggestion Andrew used commercial information improperly, but the concealment of his investments raises questions about government oversight of potential conflicts of interest.

Viviennemary · 26/04/2023 20:48

The wealth and greed of the Windsors is off the scale. Can't see them surviviving if the younger generation has anything to do with it. Parliament isn't even allowed to vote on getting rid ofv hem. Some democracy.,

OP posts:
CathyorClaire · 27/04/2023 10:09

This is shocking:

It is.

He was also suspected of using the 'trade envoy' role alongside official jollies to pursue his own private meetings and interests while dumping his lavish travel bills on the taxpayer.

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/prince-andrew-accused-of-exploiting-trade-envoy-role-to-help-multimillionaire-friend-a4301426.html

Got to bear in mind as well all this is only what's been uncovered.

Goodness alone knows what remains buried.

Roussette · 27/04/2023 10:17

There will be a huge amount buried. We only know a tiny bit. And because of that he will never be an active member of the RF again. Charles knows it would be open season on him and his underhand dealings that would damage the Monarchy irreparably (as if he hasn't already)

On his Trade Envoy jaunts, I read somewhere, he always added a few days/week on to his trips to go and play golf at the very best Golf Clubs in the world. Which is why so many of them added the word 'Royal' to their name. He was patron to 24 in the UK, let alone those all over the world. Many have quietly dropped the 'Royal' from their name.

The David Rowland Luxembourg bank thing was truly disgusting. How he got away with all of this, I do not know.

Well.... I do know actually. The Queen enabled him

CathyorClaire · 27/04/2023 20:17

Yep.

Prime golf at taxpayers expense too.

The Queen enabling this immoral clown for decades is a scandal in and of itself and that's before we get on to the rest of the circus.

Viviennemary · 28/04/2023 11:19

Everyone knew Andrew was a total sponger and in it for what he could get. He didnt even pretend to be anything else.

OP posts:
AskMeMore · 28/04/2023 13:20

If you looked at his engagements when he was a working royal, it was full of rounds of golf and dinners at top golf clubs. This was his "work".

Roussette · 28/04/2023 14:27

Appalling he was allowed to carry so long with his freeloading. The Queen was weak as far as he was concerned

Viviennemary · 28/04/2023 17:29

I think we have actually agreed on this point Roussette!
