Does anyone know who will be performing at the concert?

Well considering Queen did a major sell out arena tour last year he's obviously not quite past it yet.

I did not know that. I hope the tour was designed to be manageable to him. Too many artists die prematurely because they keep doing punishing tours when their health is not good enough to manage this.

Let's hope Rod Stuart is busy that day!

Rod Stewart has said he can't make it.

That is what I do not understand. Decent bands and singers are often booked up a year ahead. Who is performing should have been sorted a long time ago.

Rod Stewart won't perform at King's coronation as wife works the event

Rod Stewart has ruled out playing at King Charles' coronation concert, as his wife Penny Lancaster will be working the event as a police constable.

Well they didn't know there was going to be a coronation until six months ago Hmm Grin

PreparationPreparationPrep · 24/03/2023 17:21

Maybe Shirley Ferguson can get The Three Degrees to perform. Still not very current but she had a soft spot for KC and he liked the group.

GlassBunion · 24/03/2023 17:38

Handel.

GlassBunion · 24/03/2023 17:39

Sorry... was being flippant.

MyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 24/03/2023 17:44

I think he said he would be delighted to be asked to perform. Not that he is performing.

Handel

Oh, I'd love this. Maybe not Handel because he'd be a bit smelly by now. But a lovely classical concert. A bit like George I on the Thames listening to Handels water music. With accompanying fireworks and fountains.
I'm really getting quite excited now!

GlassBunion · 24/03/2023 19:00

@MarshaMelrose
That's exactly what I was thinking.

We are visionaries! I mean, looking back to the past visionaries, granted, 😄 but we're thinking out of the box. It could just be sooo beautiful.

CathyorClaire · 25/03/2023 11:17

Queen and Madness usually get wheeled out too.

I'd be surprised if Paul McCartney wasn't on the cart with them.

vera99 · 25/03/2023 11:29

My sister by dint of luck got tickets for the 2012 Diamond Jubilee and for the Platinum as well. The Diamond by all accounts went well. But at the Platinum they were not allowed to take any drink or food into the event. They were not provided with any water or drinks post security and the queues for food, drink and toilets were absolutely horrendous and applied to old and young alike. Like about an hour and cost a small fortune to boot. She also paid a fortune to stay at a hotel nearby.

One would have thought at the very least the Palace would have sorted out free water for the plebs in the standing area and even maybe got sponsors to provide a goodie bag of snacks and drinks, you would have thought so but no. Meanwhile, behind her in the stands the great and the good enjoyed comfort and repose though Boris did get booed when he took his seat !

aharddaysnight · 25/03/2023 11:31

I actually have got allocated tickets last week which I was slightly surprised by, didn't think they were allocating any for another month or so. No idea who is performing though

Coxspurplepippin · 25/03/2023 11:58

vera99, tbh, that sounds like most arena concerts, and for most of them the plebs have the privilege of paying upwards of £100 for a ticket.

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 25/03/2023 14:32

Another vote for King.

Paul, if you're on here ...

what? They didn’t know she was going to die. And quite frankly once she did they’d a funeral and a lot of other important stuff to deal with rather than booking acts for a concert for gods sake 😱

AskAwayAgain · 25/03/2023 14:38

@Wisteriaroundthedoor Having the concert was a choice, they do not need to do that. If there is not enough time to organise it properly then it was a bad idea.
Personally I think if Charles was insistent on having a concert it would have been better to have a classical concert. It is far easier to find musicians to play in an orchestra than to book proper big stars at fairly short notice.

Honestly op, you Really need to stop worrying so. I’m sure it will be fine 😂

Totally agree. I might lose the will to live if we have another Sweet Caroline or Cliff Richard on a summer holiday. Or Gary Barlow. Or Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Agree on the classical, but perhaps that wouldn't appeal to the masses.

I think it would be great to have a carefully chosen selection of classical music played by young up and coming musicians and singers from Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England. As long as it doesn't go down the Andre Rieu route 😁

AskAwayAgain · 25/03/2023 17:08

Just seen that the concert will also feature spoken word performances. I guess they could get enough people to perform so this is to fill up the space.

OP posts:
Coxspurplepippin · 25/03/2023 17:17

Why so dismissive of spoken word performance? Well, I know why you're dismissive of it in this context, obviously, but would you be so in any other context?

This. Why would spoken word performance just be a filler? How rude! Spoken word has a long tradition and would fit in well at a coronation I would imagine.

myrtleWilson · 25/03/2023 18:23

I googled for you OP - for the platinum jubilee concert on 4th June, the line up appears to have been officially announced on 18/19 May - so just over two weeks in advance of the event. If the same pattern is followed, line up announcement would be around 20th April - so a little while to wait yet! (of course no way of knowing if the same pattern will follow). Who were you hoping to see at the concert?

vera99 · 25/03/2023 19:35

Please no more Brian May or Sir Ian McKellen doing a soliloquy accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic against a video backdrop similar to the Olympics opening. Actually that's not a bad idea Sir Kenneth Branagh might be less hammy.

This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England,
This nurse, this teeming womb of royal kings,
Fear’d by their breed and famous by their birth,
Renowned for their deeds as far from home,
For Christian service and true chivalry,
As is the sepulchre in stubborn Jewry,
Of the world’s ransom, blessed Mary’s Son,
This land of such dear souls, this dear dear land,
Dear for her reputation through the world,
Is now leased out, I die pronouncing it,
Like to a tenement or pelting farm:
England, bound in with the triumphant sea
Whose rocky shore beats back the envious siege
Of watery Neptune, is now bound in with shame,
With inky blots and rotten parchment bonds:
That England, that was wont to conquer others,
Hath made a shameful conquest of itself.
Ah, would the scandal vanish with my life,
How happy then were my ensuing death!

God speed King Charles - God Save the King !
