Aristocrats angry about Coronation

This amuses me.
It is being reported that lots of Aristocrats are angry because they are unlikely to be invited to the Coronation. Queen Elizabeth's Coronation had 5,00 attendees achieved by installing internal scaffolding and cramming people in. The papers are saying this is not possible this time as it would not meet current health and safety standards. So only 2,000 people are being invited. And many aristocrats who think they should be invited, will not get an invite.

They'll live, I'm sure; and get a better view on TV and less the expense of hiring robes and tiaras/coronets.

Who's reporting this, as a matter of interest?

ZombiesForever · 16/03/2023 15:26

I first read it in the Guardian, but other outlets have covered it too. None of them are bothered, it is put in more as an aside article.

Should say Elizabeth Coronation had 5000 attendees.

Maybe a stadium should be set up around the building. And big TV screens like at football matches.

Boo hoo

I did wonder about this when I heard that the numbers would be limited to what the Abbey can normally accommodate. But it's a different world and a different century. I think they will manage to cope.

Tbh if I was an aristo and didn’t get an invitation I’d be a bit miffed.
There are only a few opportunities in a lifetime to do the full dress up etc.

Plitvice · 17/03/2023 14:18

Of course, they could have proven that they are not out of touch by livestreaming it and inviting the bare minimum of people.

I cannot stand how Charles is trying to convey that he is oh-so-important by throwing all that money at a self aggrandizing show.

BillLius · 17/03/2023 15:26

I expect the ermine will be happy.

GettingThereCharleyBear · 17/03/2023 15:28

@Plitvice totally agree.

I thought the best families generally ignored the Windsors on the basis that they are not true aristocracy?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 19/03/2023 11:01

They can console themselves with the thought that in 15/20 years there'll be another one.

Crumpetdisappointment · 19/03/2023 11:49

i guess most invitations will be political

FrankandWalters · 25/03/2023 08:33

^^ Absolutely this!

I was amuse by Charles Spencer’s throwaway line on his podcast, “I don’t go around thinking about royalty that much”
