Why was Harry so restrained re his legitimacy?

In his spill his guts memoir, Harry never mentions the horrible and untrue (I don't believe it anyway, and I don't like him) stories about him being the son of his mothers lover, James Hewitt?

If he read so much in the newspapers he must have read these stories, and I'm curious as to why he didn't refute the stories or at least talk about how they affected his mental health. Yet nothing.

I wonder why?

He knows it is not true. He did mention it in a few paragraphs. But how much space do you give to batshit theories?
I mean he did not mention either the theory the Royal Family are really lizards.

Regarding red hair and the Spencers, Diana was a direct descendant of Anne Boleyn's sister Mary, whose children might have been fathered by Henry VIII.

He gives a lot of airtime to plenty of batshit theories. And Andrew is definitely a member of the lizard family!

What he says about JH refers to the tabloids. I don't think he is personally as hung up this particular piece of gossip as you might hope.

He knows he's Charles son. And he knows that Charles knows he's his son. But the fact that he thinks that the newspapers kept talking about to specifically torture Harry shows you how much he cares. If the papers wanted to torture anyone, it would have been Diana. In actual fact, the papers repeat gossip because the public like reading that other people's lives aren't perfect. I doubt, sadly, they gave much thought how it affected Harry.

@purpledalmation I think you should read the book. It's really not as sensationalist as the papers have made you believe. All the 'screamed out' parts are actually quite minor or mentioned in passing and the portrayal of his family is really quite nuanced, it's not all RF = 100% bad. But the press + paps are given far worse and it's very clear that's what his real issue is with.

Beatrice has a red-haired mother.

I've read (well listened) to a lot of it, and know what you mean, but bloody hell it's boring, I'll try to listen to a few more chapters but I keep falling asleep. His mum part is so sad though, but he has some serious issues, which we all know about. He definitely not on the same page as Meghan I think. He's all about genuine privacy, which really isn't her narrative. A very 'interesting' dynamic there.

Well yes, he was born into it, he didn't ever have a choice re privacy. She, like most celebrities, chased fame. But that's all actors and such like. I think she has to wait till he catches up with her, he's tasting living his life on his own terms with complete freedom for the first time in his life, and she's of course already used to it. And dealing with family issues. But I do think she understands him and what he's going through, and I think they want the same things in the end.

I've always thought Harry looked like Charles Spencer. If you look up photos of his first wedding it's like seeing Harry. His eyes are like KC I agree

I dont think he will mention it at all. He can't tolerate anything negative about Diana.

Plitvice · 04/03/2023 10:21

Even if there was any truth in the rumour, it would have been quashed to save face.
Besides, raiding the bank of King Charles sounds like a much better deal then raiding the bank of Hewitt!

milveycrohn · 12/03/2023 07:38

Although Diana is known to have had at least 4 affaires, some with married men, I do not think she was stupid enough to have had a child with one of them and passed off as Charles.
She stated in her panorama interview that the marriage was fine until after Harry was born.
Harry clearly takes after the Spencer side of the family. Diana's sisters, Sarah and Jane both have reddish hair.

sashagabadon · 12/03/2023 07:43

Harry is clearly Charles son. They are spitting images of each other!

UnagiForLife · 12/03/2023 07:50

He did mention it. OP what a strange thread to start, why make out he didn’t mention it when you clearly haven’t even read the book.

I agree with this. I think it was actually pretty mild, and I also think it shows affection for his father. Plus I think that some of the leaks from the Spanish version had some translation issues.
