The royal family

Why was Harry so restrained re his legitimacy?

purpledalmation · 28/02/2023 18:34

In his spill his guts memoir, Harry never mentions the horrible and untrue (I don't believe it anyway, and I don't like him) stories about him being the son of his mothers lover, James Hewitt?

If he read so much in the newspapers he must have read these stories, and I'm curious as to why he didn't refute the stories or at least talk about how they affected his mental health. Yet nothing.

I wonder why?

He did mention it actually….
so many people with so much to say about the book without having read it!!

But not in the context that is implied. He wasn't in any way saying that Hewit might be his father.

MarshaMelrose · 28/02/2023 20:25

I imagine he is Charles’, otherwise they’d have publicly smeared Diana before now.

Would it be smearing to say that Diana had tried to pass off someone else' son as Charles's? And if it would be, wouldn't she deserve it?

It's not slander if it's true. And I doubt Diana, a member of a very grand aristocratic family, knew all about the 'heir and spare before you enjoy yourself' philosophy.

He mentioned that his dad has joked about whether or not he's Harry's real dad.

I bet Charles would be delighted to find out he wasn't his biological father!

Why? What's wrong with saying that someone deserves criticism if they pass off their boyfriend's child as their husband's? Do you think it's OK to do that?

IJustHadToLookHavingReadTheBook · 28/02/2023 20:40

This rumour always makes me laugh. As if all of those royal kids aren't being DNA tested!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 28/02/2023 20:41

DON'T doubt.

And there we have it

Oh no, I've conjured something up. 😆

Monzeitia · 28/02/2023 21:01

We also have a joke in our family, my sister and brother in law both dark hair, green eyes, first daughter same as them, second daughter, red hair and brown eyes, you know the typical joke, the milk man is a red hair but apparently our great-grandma was a beautiful red head so there you go

purpledalmation · 28/02/2023 21:27

My point is not whether there is any truth in it because there obviously isn't for many reasons, but I'm surprised he doesn't add it to his shedload of grievances against the media, even if it's just social media. Or even mainstream media for publicising his mothers affair with Hewitt?

Just curious as to why it's not a bigger issue for him. Not for its lack of truthfulness, but the sheer nastiness of the rumours. If anyone had plastered my mothers affair over the newspapers and (even covertly) questioned my paternity, I'd be far more pissed than my brother pushing me into the dog bowl.

I mean, this is one story where he is a genuine victim of rumour and gossip. Why didn't he exploit it more 🤔

I suppose he would then also have to be annoyed with his parents for plastering their affairs al over the newspapers.

Seriously though, he does mention it in the book. And I am only part way through but so far it is pretty much all about how pissed off he is with the press. But he also seems resigned to privacy intrusion. And knows it is not true.

Oh I see that's not how your OP read. So you are trying to make story from a non story.

My guess is he just doesn't give a shit! Wink

adrianmolesmole · 28/02/2023 23:56

He does mention it, rather scathingly, how the tabloids cruelly repeated this "joke" to torture a young boy for laughs. Diana didn't meet Hewitt until long after Harry was born so there's not much to say about it really, since it doesn't add up.

Have you read his book, OP? He mentions it, but the bulk of the book is actually not about the things the media has said about him, it’s all about what they’ve said about the people he loves that he perceives as vulnerable i.e. his mother Diana, and Meghan.

MarshaMelrose · 01/03/2023 00:07

Yeaaah. He gives a shit. He gives a shit about everything. If he's not over a smaller bedroom and his necklace, he's not over people doubting his parentage. He wouldn't have mentioned it in connection with Charles otherwise.

Lol, I always say that. I’ve often wondered if they’re artificially inseminated with pre made heirs 😂.

There’s no way anyone would be heir to the throne if there was any doubt of their parentage.

What he says about JH refers to the tabloids. I don't think he is personally as hung up this particular piece of gossip as you might hope.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 01/03/2023 08:51

As mentioned below the link to Charles was in reference to a mental health patient who thought he was Prince Charles. He then added a sentence or two if that about JH and the tabloids. Honestly you can pump it out to be some big part of the book for him but it really wasn't.

Btjdkfnn · 01/03/2023 08:55

Harry looks just like charles.
It's just that he shares a hair colour with JH so people draw stupid conclusions

Facially he is like charles
Facially he looks nothing like diana even

purpledalmation · 01/03/2023 08:55

@PreparationPreparationPrep Why the aggressive tone? No one is 'hoping' he is hung up on this.

It's just surprising he goes into detail about smaller bedrooms, sausages, his frost bitten bits and donates a tiny amount to years and years of harmful newspapers reports questioning his legitimacy.

In the same way the question of Archie's skin colour wasn't even addressed in the book despite a 2 year accusation hanging over the RF.

Are the suicidal ideas of Meghan also not mentioned?

Maybe these will for part of other books?

That's fairly restrained! I thought he would make it bigger in his book and interviews as it went on for years and years.
