Why was Harry so restrained re his legitimacy?

In his spill his guts memoir, Harry never mentions the horrible and untrue (I don't believe it anyway, and I don't like him) stories about him being the son of his mothers lover, James Hewitt?

If he read so much in the newspapers he must have read these stories, and I'm curious as to why he didn't refute the stories or at least talk about how they affected his mental health. Yet nothing.

I wonder why?

The chronically doesn't work so he couldn't have been his Dad. At some royal shindig yonks ago I remember seeing one of his cousins on his Mum's side who looked just like him. So, meh.

bellinisurge · 28/02/2023 18:36

Chronology not chronically 😂

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 28/02/2023 18:40

Because he didn't want to dignify it by noticing it, quite reasonably in my opinion. The chronology doesn't work, and anyway he's the image both of his father and grandfather (the real ones, not the ones some people would assign to him). The red hair comes from the Spencers, if you look at Lady Sarah McCorquodale.

StopStartStop · 28/02/2023 18:50

If there was any doubt about his parentage, dna testing has been available for some time now.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 28/02/2023 18:58

He did mention it - but very briefly - a couple of lines I think and not in great detail. Rightly so he gave the gossip the amount of attention it deserves - zilch!

User473831 · 28/02/2023 19:03

Because that would paint his mother in a bad light and put come context behind his struggles with the paternal side?

I imagine he is Charles’, otherwise they’d have publicly smeared Diana before now.

OutOfThisState · 28/02/2023 19:07

🤔 But he did talk about it in the book, there’s a few paragraphs about it.

lmnabc · 28/02/2023 19:09

It's only hair colour he shares with Hewitt. Otherwise he looks just like his father

xJoy · 28/02/2023 19:12

He knows it's not true! He looks nothing like Hewitt. He looks like Charles and Prince Philip. The rumour must bore him to bits, no wonder it got two lines in the book

MiddleParking · 28/02/2023 19:12

You could hardly question his parentage these days. Poor fucker.

xJoy · 28/02/2023 19:13

Also he'd be better looking if James Hewitt were his father.

And there must be red hair genes in the Royal Family too, it has to come down both sides and look at Beatrice.

AllCatsAreBeautiful · 28/02/2023 19:21

He does talk about this in the book.

maddy68 · 28/02/2023 19:23

Because it's obviously bollocks. The timeframe makes it impossible alone. That and the fact he looks so like the duke of Edinburgh at the same age. It's uncanny.

PeekAtYou · 28/02/2023 19:23

He mentioned that his dad has joked about whether or not he's Harry's real dad.

BentleyRhythmAce · 28/02/2023 19:23

If he's not a blood royal, he's a fairly thick ex-squaddie. Being royal is his one big selling point. And we all have to pretend his mother was a saint. Acknowledging rumours that she might have cheated so early in the marriage, and that Charles might not be his dad, would undermine Harry's USP.

Ozcando · 28/02/2023 19:23

He is KC double so nothing to say !

feellikeanalien · 28/02/2023 19:32

There is a photo of Prince Philip in his naval uniform when he was younger. I tried to copy it but couldn't. Harry is the spitting image of him.

TennisWithDeborah · 28/02/2023 19:33

Silly rumour which arose just because JH is an athletic redhead like Harry. But Harry’s red hair and athleticism come from the maternal side. Diana’s sisters are auburn-haired, and Diana was tall and sporty.

And as PPs said, facially he resembles Philip at age 35ish.

He mentioned that his dad has joked about whether or not he's Harry's real dad.

We joked about my younger brother having been left on the doorstep by the gypsies. Doesn't mean we seriously thought he was.

bluetilt · 28/02/2023 19:35

because there are 2 books more to come

MoreCatsPlease · 28/02/2023 19:44

Maybe because James Hewitt is the type to respond publicly and Harry generally only attacks those who have no recourse?

User0610134057 · 28/02/2023 19:57

He did mention it actually….
so many people with so much to say about the book without having read it!!

FancyFanny · 28/02/2023 20:20

I bet the rumours about Janmes hewitt being his father are source of many a joke amongst the Windsors

MarshaMelrose · 28/02/2023 20:21

PeekAtYou · 28/02/2023 19:23

He mentioned that his dad has joked about whether or not he's Harry's real dad.

That's not quite what the story was. Charles had met someone at Broadmoor who claimed he was the Prince of Wales rather than Charles. So, later in the day, Charles joked that nothing might be as they think and that he might not be the Prince of Wales so he might not be Harry's father. He wasn't making any allusion to Hewitt. Harry said Charles never gave him any cause to think he wasn't his son.
