The royal family

Why are interviewers not calling Harry out on his "version" of events?

Kateforqueen · 12/01/2023 07:51

The interviewers are very soft on him. Is he hand picking who interviews him & are they getting a list of off limit questions. Eg the Queen mother story

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11620265/Pictures-place-Prince-Harry-Switzerland-Queen-Mother-died-NOT-Eton-recalls.html

Why isn't he challenged?

Spot on, @Patineur

Vitriolinsanity · 12/01/2023 19:54

You cannot believe the hosts or even researchers of those shows have read one page of that drivel? I mean, have you?

queentim · 12/01/2023 20:23

No one's memory is perfect, and Harry admits to that.

But I find it funny that people believe tabloid reporters know more about people's lives and events more than people who lived through it.

Vitriolinsanity · 12/01/2023 20:40

Not so much tabloid reporters as that darned internet.

It's like shooting fish in a bloody barrel.

It's reasonable to believe it when it's backed up by contemporaneous reports and photos.

I completely agree that no-one's memory is perfect and if I were to write an account of my life I wouldn't be able to remember off the top of my head all the names, dates and places. In that respect he is probably no different to the vast majority of us.

But the vast majority of us can see the obvious need to be basically factual if you are expecting the wider public to take you seriously, doubly so when you are making detrimental statements concerning other people and triply (is that a word?) so if you are profiting financially from that account.

It is especially important to be factual if you describe a large portion of your potential fan base as being "credulous" - that tends to rub them up the wrong way and make them more likely to point out the errors.

@JustWhattheDoctorOrdered Well, in fairness he was quite young when she passed away so his memory before her passing might be more hazy.

@JustWhattheDoctorOrdered I was responding to your comment to another poster. I am paraphrasing, but you can see the comment that I wrote and what I had responded to because you asked the poster if they had read the book and you also wrote that Harry says that his memory was poor before his mother’s passing.

So all I did was acknowledge that Harry was young when his mother passed away. I didn’t mention anything about guesswork so I’m not sure how you arrived at that conclusion. I was simply acknowledging what you wrote and just meant that if his memory is poor, it could be because he was really young.

Wheresthebeach · 12/01/2023 21:04

Most of use, when we screw up on dates, facts, etc apologise and recognise we've made a mistake. Not his Royal Whinger - no...he says his truth, is as valid as actual factual truth. Honestly, you couldn't make this shit up.

DogBowlsAreMyWeapon · 12/01/2023 21:08

Reminds me of that “photos or it didn’t happen” internet demand.

OooK - here are the photos and it DID happen.

it saddens/disturbs me that some so enthralled could be children’s social workers or magistrates and are out there in the world believing any old guff that comes out of people’s mouths.

@Kateforqueen Again, not seeking my entertainment by deluding myself that I am impacting the lives of others who are doing better than myself. But if you do want to know how I will be filling my day today – I will soon be going to my midwife’s appointment as my DP and I will soon be welcoming the first addition to our family. Another source of happiness in our lives. But why am I telling you this, when it’s obvious you can’t relate. I won’t ask how you’ll be spending the remainder of your day as that’s already been established.

Congratulations Sayitagainmyl.

I wonder how the posters who are so negatively exercised by Harry, and also Meghan, manage to unwind after writing mean, often venomous posts about them. I wonder if those posters go about the rest of their time affected, more or less, by emotions they feel towards two people they do not know. I mean, I think strong negative emotions don’t just disappear when you move away from the keyboard. Or Maybe they do. But I’m not convinced of it. I think it’s got to be bad for one’s health in some way.

Wrong. Famously, laughter is the BEST medicine.

@MsBucket yes I did mean to reply to you. You said this:

Well, in fairness he was quite young when she passed away so his memory before her passing might be more hazy

You were surmising that his vague memory was to do with him being young when she died. He specifically says that his hazy memories were to do with trauma, not because of his age. He mentions this often in the book as something odd that bothered him.

I don’t know why you are giving opinions about a book you haven’t read. I am even more puzzled why you have decided not to read it. That would be quite understandable if you weren’t interested in him. But you are. You have strong opinions about him. But what are your opinions based on?

@JustWhattheDoctorOrdered I am interested in discussions of role of the royal family and if that happens to include Harry then so be it.

I do get curious when people mention things because I am naturally curious. But I’m not going to go and start looking online for interviews and stories and gossip stories from tabloids, but I do like to have a gander at the royal family topic especially when it’s in active threads and it’s something I have commented on. Sometimes I don’t return to threads and other times I do. Each time a member of the royal family, including Meghan and Kate had a baby, I found the information from Mumsnet. I then would get curious and see what they named their child etc. But I’m not going to google “is xyz pregnant?” because I’m not interested in that.

I don’t understand what you mean by me having strong opinions about Harry. Please tell me what opinions I do have or should have? All I did was acknowledge a comment that you yourself had made.

Regarding Harry’s book, I didn’t decide not to read it because it’s written by Harry or apparently ghostwritten for Harry…I rarely read autobiographies and memoirs. I’m sure I already mentioned that somewhere. I am, however, interested in discussions about the royal family. For instance, I didn’t even know Harry had a ghostwriter. When I found out that he had a publishing deal, I just assumed he would write it himself as it was a tell-all memoir. But I wasn’t surprised as I used to be a ghostwriter and I know that many books written by public figures/celebrities do also have ghostwriters and editors etc. so it was hardly surprising.

I don’t understand what the issue is.

Can you imagine what the world would be like if everyone thought like that! Frightening.

MsBucket · 12/01/2023 21:26

@StormzyinaTCup Sadly, I feel like it’s already becoming like that. Stories are shared and believed as though they are like gospel. And when you point out the the plot holes and inconsistencies/inaccuracies, you’ll be told: I’m just telling what I heard/was told etc. These days, it’s become so easy to share falsehoods that the truth gets lost in the way.

Totally agree. I've been howling literally since the Spanish translator's leaked Spare. The whole thing is absolutely fucking hilarious! The Sussex pair cannot be taken seriously, they are joke figures there purely for entertainment 🤣 they have brightened up a cold, miserable January no end with their comedy show 😁

I fully agree, it's easy to get dates wrong, but getting entire place and time wrong is not a slip up it's a lie. If he is skiing with his father on holiday, you cannot accidentally forget and think you are at boarding school that's a lie full blown bull shit not a memory slip.

Yes officer at the time of murder I was in Spain on a beach drinking cocktails, then the officer produces CCTV of you in the duck and gun in London drinking a bottle of wine, no different it's bull shit. Just like Harry bullshiter everything he says.

Kateforqueen · 12/01/2023 21:56

@rumship it's sad that he can't even remember the QM death properly.. He was the main beneficiary in her will, she felt sorry for him...

And the lying toad claims he was in Eton which was closed at the time & he was actually in Switzerland..

DogBowlsAreMyWeapon · 12/01/2023 22:51

@Kateforqueen not only has this book brightened January - but it’s been a tremendous boost for my mental health. At any point in the future if I’m feeling low I’ll have £20, a wank and a sandwich. 😂😂😂 That’s tickled me beyond belief.

Most of us also don't have the benefit of being able to check the relevant details of big dates in our lives (like our great-grandmother's death) via a quick Google, so there's even less excuse for Harry.

I’m not concerned about these posters, ‘faux’ or otherwise. I just wonder what the after effects are? So, ‘twaddle’ on, please.

BruceAndNosh · 13/01/2023 07:25

Harry seems to be confusing opinions with facts.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, no matter how barmy.
You can't insist that your misremembered memories are as valid as the actual real true fact.
Or is this just a ruse to defend himself in case anyone sues for libel?

uk.news.yahoo.com/harry-meghan-nottingham-cottage-so-small-netflix-documentary-103214524.html

If I was an interviewer this is what I would hit them with. I'd start with what are your opinions on homelessness, families sheltering in community centres, unable to heat their homes & thousands relying on food banks..

Then I'd ask them why he would make a comment like being embarrassed of the home lots of struggling tax payers are funding for them & why Meghan commented on how small it was on Netflix. I'm sure thousands of families would be over the moon with such a "small home".

Our real Princess Eugenie is living in Nott Cottege now with her hubby & baby August.. But not big enough for the Sussex pair... Shades of Marie Antoinette for sure...

If pressed at interview I'm sure the reply would be "Let them eat cake"!!!
