Court Circular

Harry describes the Court Circular as a joke:

"Which was essentially why the Court Circular was a joke. It was all self-reported, all subjective. Nine private visits with veterans, helping with their mental health? Zero points. Flying via helicopter to cut a ribbon at a horse farm? Winner!"

Is he criticizing Princess Anne?

I wouldn’t want to pick a fight with Anne.

How does the point system work? Does the person with the most points win something?

They get crowned the hardest working Royal for making so many phone calls.

That's not really worth it. I find making phone calls rather onerous.

So not content with gunning for his Dad, brother and sister in law, now he is gunning for his Auntie too. He really is a nasty piece of work.

And had the nerve to compare the Queen and Princess Margaret's relationship to his with William. Despite saying he didn't know Margaret well. Still thinks he knows the ins and outs of a sibling relationship that frankly had nothing to do with him.

moaninggiraffe · 11/01/2023 00:24

Does anyone else feel like he's watched The Crown on Netflix - especially when he talks about the Queen and Princess Margaret?

DerangedViper · 11/01/2023 00:27

He's showing what little grasp he has on things again.

Private visits are that - private and by definition don't appear in the Circular, which is a record of the official ones

He's the only one who sees this as points scoring. Unless he's really bothered about how Anne is almost invariably noted as the Royal with the most annual official engagements. We don't know how many private ones she did either

DerangedViper · 11/01/2023 00:29

@BradfordGirl does it not even occur to you that there's a two week Christmas holiday in the middle of the period you're quoting?

Like he thinks the royal family is an MLM scheme and he just needs to get more sales to get the crown. Sounds like he was “helping” for recognition 🧐

I actually thought this with his constant use of “reconciliation”.

In thr Crown the Queen’s ‘Annus horribilis’ speech makes mention of family and reconciliation, which Harry’s mentions in the Bradby interview seemed to quite mirror.

Her actual speech didn’t though as far as I can see in the transcript of it.

The thing about the 'engagements' posted by @BradfordGirl is that they all have to be prepared for. The RF have to be briefed and be on top of the brief. Then going here, there and everywhere to meet with and talk to a whole lot of people they don't necessarily know, with all the eyes on them and a great deal of expectation for the visit, because it might be just another engagement to them, but to the representatives of whatever organisation it is it can easily be the biggest thing that's ever happened to them. So they have to be 'on' all the time.

Even for a five minute phone call, if Harry thinks it's just like ringing your mother to ask if she wants anything from the supermarket he doesn't get it.

They may have fantastically glamorous lives some of the time, but I wouldn't want to be them.

The Court Circular is a snapshot of where the senior royals are and some of the things they have been doing. It’s never been a comprehensive list of everything they do. It’s not even really a list of engagements - it lists things like travel arrangements and who is landing in which country etc.

The engagements totals that are released by the papers at the end of the year are not official figures - they were started by some man as a personal hobby in the 1970s and The Times started publishing them - now a couple of different people do them and they all have different methods for counting engagements. Some just use the Court Circular and count each day as an engagement - some use the CC and split the days engagements into different parts, some add the extra non-CC info that comes from news reports, some don’t count the things like Christmas Day church as a working engagement and some do.

Harry is making an interesting point that the value of a year’s work isn’t necessarily displayed well by a tally of how many ‘meetings’ you turned up for vs the outcome and results produced by your efforts.

I do think the RF have to find a better way to show the value of their work so that the public isn’t just focused on these numbers which don’t really show the full picture.

It is annoying that Harry thinks it’s just him that isn’t being represented well by the CC though.

He’s making a mistake if he tries to go for Princess Anna!

Ridemeginger · 11/01/2023 02:07

They need to unleash Mike Tindall onto the media. No diplomacy, just say what he thinks of the frostbitten prick.

He said on Stephen Colbert late show he’s watched them all

Meghan should have watched them with him to get an idea of protocol.

Why is everyone going on about Anne? The Court Circular covers all the Royal Family members. Between 15th of December and the 5th of January (5th is the last entry), the King and Queen have carried out 10 engagements. That in reality means 2 days "work" and one telephone call.

So King and Queen's engagements:

5th January - Her Royal Highness, Patron, Parkinson's UK, held a Meeting via telephone with Ms. Caroline Rassell (Chief Executive).

16th Dec - This all counts as 4 engagements - The King this morning visited Community Security Trust, London.
His Majesty, escorted by the Chief Executive, joined a Reception with trustees, volunteers and police officers and viewed a demonstration of equipment and private security, before receiving a briefing in the National Security Control Centre, attending an Anti-Hate Crime Meeting and meeting members of staff and researchers.
The King this afternoon visited JW3 Community Centre, London.
His Majesty, escorted by Mr. Raymond Simonson (Chief Executive), met students from the Gateways Programme, visited the Kitchen and met refugees, volunteers and members of staff preparing meals for charity, before meeting food bank volunteers and joining a pre-Chanukah Reception for Holocaust Survivors.

15th Dec - counts as 5 engagements - The King and The Queen Consort this afternoon visited London's Community Kitchen.
His Majesty, escorted by the Chief Executive, and Her Majesty, escorted by Ms. Suzy Jakeman (Head of Projects and Partnerships), toured the facilities, viewing the surplus food market, the Cookery School and the Kind Café and meeting students, members of staff and volunteers, before officially opening Paddington Garden.
Her Royal Highness this afternoon attended a Luncheon at Spencer House, 27 St. James's Place, London SW1.
Her Royal Highness this afternoon attended a Christmas Carol Service held by The Princess of Wales in Westminster Abbey, London SW1.

The Wales' are not nicknamed the Dolittles for nothing ! More goss...

Reminder: Prince Charles stripped security from York girls and Bea tried to enlist the help of William who kept her waiting a long time then told her he couldn’t help her. The Yorks all have an ax to grind and they are jealous of Kate. Why E is leaking into to Harry. Traitor ?!

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 11/01/2023 06:35

Reminder: Prince Charles stripped security from York girls

The York girls lost their security (at the same time Anne, Andrew, Edward and Sophie lost their 24 hour security) in 2011 when the Queen was very much in charge.

HaveYouSeenNancy · 11/01/2023 06:57

Does he think he's the only person that did private engagements that aren't in the Court Circular? He really is in 'poor little me, it's so unfair' mode. They must all have a proportion of their work that isn't on the list.
