Good point. But it doesn’t make any difference to him supposedly paying the school fees because he didn’t. Granted there may have been some inherited money in the family but Michael was at a stage in his career where he’d have a very good salary and Carole had her business, even if it wasn’t turning over what it did eventually.

I was at university with Kate and Will, and was occasionally at the same party as them. They're totally unobtrusively normal, no fuss, no airs - William used to wear a baseball cap pulled down quite far over his eyes, but to be fair loads of the boys did then.

Same. St Andrews is a tiny place and it was just no biggie that they were there.

You do know that in the event of an emergency on board it’s the cabin crew who’d be doing all they can to help save your life during any kid of emergency? And that they’d be last off the aircraft after trying to save your nasty arse if you were ever involved in an emergency landing. Or how about trying to save your life by carrying out first aid if your ever choked on your own bile.

But should we really be surprised that you think it’s ok to belittle the job a person does or did?

@Kateforqueen I agree, but in defence of Vogue Williams, she's gone down a commercial route but she's fairly middle class and has never that I can recall mentioned pippa or james matthews.. Vogue's family architects and QS and she was encouraged her in to the same field. She went to Santa Sabina which is a well-known private school in Dublin and it considers itself a cut above buttermilk, ha ha. She went to on to get a decent raft of professional qualifications in the field of QS. Her family were not like ''get your legs out love''.

You can go down that commercial route without talking about anybody other than your own immediate family. I doubt Pippa is worried that Vogue will chat about that branch of the Matthews family.

Pippa cannot really seriously judge Vogue as at one point, Pippa was asked to rein it in as she had attempted to launch herself as a party planner. At the time I felt for her that it was shut right down. She was in an unusual situation.

Santa Sabina isn't private.

I was eating lunch at Daphne’s when Kate and Carole sat down next to me. They pushed a lot of salad around a plate and had an argument about what to get Pippa’s children for Christmas. Carole wanted to go to Marie Chantal in Walton Street to get some co-ordinating pastel clothes but Kate said no and they had an argument. Kate said, and the words are still ringing in my ears to this day, “wouldn’t it be funny to buy them a load of red plastic shite,” and Carole said no, Pippa would t like it but Kate was adamant. They finished their hot water and left, going in separate directions (Carole to posh clothes shop and Kate to TK Maxx) but not before Kate left £100 on the table as a tip.

Enough to pay 30k a yr fees per kid? Gary sold his business for 20m I think so he defo had spare money lying around.

I don’t really like the concept of a Royal family. It is the role(s) I object to rather than any of them personally. But I can’t stand this idea that someone is worthy of a snigger because they did a perfectly normal fucking job.

Seems very reasonable for an expensive city. Perhaps it’s a different one I’ve found.

Not the point of the thread but the reason Irish fee-paying schools are so much cheaper than UK independent schools is that the State pays the teachers' salaries.

Free schools get more money per pupil from State on top of this.

So in private fee-paying schools the fees are used for extra teachers to bring down ratios, facilities, grounds, extras etc.

That's why the most expensive schools in Ireland are nowhere near the price of UK independents.

Met KC a couple of times a few years ago, working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in a sporting apprenticeship scheme.

He was really great with them. The young people were on best behaviour and saying nothing and he got banter going with them so they relaxed and then he asked them questions they let them shake their heads at him and confidently explain why he was wrong etc.

He (obviously) has tonnes of practice and was very good with them.

They were all on a high for a good while after wards, a real confidence boost.
