Meghan did my head in with all her riiiiiiiiiight on the Oprah interview.

"So nobody taught me the words to the national anthem riiiiiiiiiIIiight?"

"So actually it was Kate who made me cry riiiiiiiiiiiiight?"

AuroraCake · 09/01/2023 22:43

They get it from Spanish in California because the Spanish tend to end with ‘si’

Bless him!

He's like a little kid who's just learned a big new word and wants to impress everyone. Even if he doesn't actually understand what it means. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight?

PicturesOfDogs · 09/01/2023 22:44

I noticed that right? thing too, he does it a lot.
Definitely parroting Meghan.

wintersunshine78 · 09/01/2023 22:44

Thought exactly the same! With an American twang too.

Blockedleftear · 09/01/2023 22:47

@IcedPurple Yes! 🙈

He said 'rout' rather than 'root' when talking about following his mother's route in the car. He's well and truly morphed into a Cali hipster bellend.

Blockedleftear · 09/01/2023 22:48

@AuroraCake So just like an acknowledgment ‘Yes?’ at end?

Yes very irritating. Totally Californian.

Yeah but it kinda means right. You are asking the person to agree with you. They also say entonces a lot…a bit like we say like but it actually means still.

LakeWindermere · 09/01/2023 22:55

Calling someone a bellend for picking up the accent local to them is very unkind.

StarInTheHeavens · 09/01/2023 22:59

I noticed it too. Like he's confirming you agree with him.

Facecream · 09/01/2023 23:15

Meghan isn’t from California though.. right?

Jobsfor2023 · 09/01/2023 23:20

I know right?!

It’s making sure the person agrees with you at the end of every sentence, right? like emphasising this is the right thing to say and seeking confirmation. Also a bit of a leading rhetorical question as otherwise you have to say “no” or “well actually” or “have you thought about X” and if you’re Tom or any other interviewer at that point Harry talks over you and becomes passive aggressive. Right?

tobee · 10/01/2023 01:16

Loads of people do this. It's not really a California thing is it?

SighsTheNewWord · 10/01/2023 01:23

He's assimilating into his new surroundings and culture, like someone else would if they come to the UK. I know we tend to expect that from others.

ninetieseyebrows · 10/01/2023 01:48

Like Londoners say 'innit'

Awesome thread , literally the sounds of barrels being scraped, like.....😂

mathanxiety · 10/01/2023 02:37

Lol. The parochialism is strong in this one.

I know more than a few British people who moved to the US and quickly picked up American English.

My guess is that the vast majority of posters here would blend in nicely with the natives within six months.

Most of the threads here wrt H&M are scraping the bottom of the barrel. This one is a good example.

mathanxiety · 10/01/2023 02:46

@PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog

You do realise that the word route is pronounced rout all over the US, right? (See what I did there?)
