"But single-parenthood? Pa was never made for that. To be fair, he tried."

Prince Harry said in an audio recording of his book: "He’d always given an air of not being quite ready for parenthood: the responsibilities, the patience, the time.

"Even he, though a proud man, would have admitted as much.

I AM SPEECHLESS. WHO IS ACTUALLY MADE OUT FOR SINGLE PARENTHOOD?

Being a single parent is really hard, I struggle every day with it.

I can't imagine how hard it is when the other parent has died, half the world are baying for your blood and holding you responsible for it, and when your own childhood was difficult.

I'd also add that Harry has been a parent for what, all of three years? I'm sure his children will be willing to give him an appraisal in a few years. It might not be as kind as he is anticipating, you know, seeings as in his mind he can do no wrong.

Those are my thoughts, @ArseInTheDogBowl - what if Archie and Lilibet publicly criticise his parenting somewhere down the line?

I think most people would struggle (at least initially) with single parenthood.
And agree Charles parents themselves weren't especially hands on parents (partly their generation, partly being the RF)
Diana was seen as much more tactile and hands on but there are aspects of her behaviour that don't always look like she had the boys best interests first and foremost. All parents have flaws, most of us would be judged for them in private, they were in a pretty unusual situation having all their lives on show to the media.

Some very unfortunate people can never be loved enough, no matter who or what is in their life. Very common in the Male aristocracy who've had similar upbringing to PH. Good luck Meghan. You won't be.enough either I'm afraid.

All parents are flawed. No one gets it 100% right. No one get’s it right for every kid, each is different.

Harry seems to either idolise women (his mother, the queen, Meghan) or vilify them (Camilla, Kate.) At least with his father and brother there is room for nuance and mixed feelings.

It's a fair point badly made.

Charles seems like a particularly distant person, no hugs etc and therefore would struggle with parenthood. But anyone would struggle with being a single parent to boys who lost their mother even if they had nannies.

Charles does hug. I've seen photos and footage where he's hugging both sons, into adulthood.

Yes, they all lived in Malta together.
The long separation was because of the Queen's accession tour of the Commonwealth.

No they didn't. It was portrayed like that in The Crown but the children were left in BP with their grandparents.

To be honest considering the childhoods of both Charles and Diana they probably did as well as they could. They were both deeply damaged people in a marriage that should never have happened living in the full glare of the lovely british press. No idea why anyone is surprised that Harry has so many issues.

Maireas · 09/01/2023 13:12

Well, my aunt and uncle were on the same base in Malta and say that they saw the children with them.

I was struck by how tactile he was with the public, compared to Queen Elizabeth. Of course, he mayn't be like that with his family.

They will. Without a doubt.

Diana started this telling the public all, H has followed, and his kids will see is as the normal thing to do.
