Harry lying on army application form

Chebet · 07/01/2023 10:14

Correct me if I am wrong, but when you apply to the army you have to state you have not taken drugs/use drugs.
Based on his book he therefore lied?
Maybe another case of one rule for them another for everyone else?!

chipsandpeas · 07/01/2023 10:19

i doubt hes the only one who has lied

Cocolapew · 07/01/2023 11:04

Tbf I would say a vast majority lie about this. I know my brother did

mpsw · 07/01/2023 20:46

Penalty for lying on application forms, or at any point in the recruitment process, is a sacking offence. As he's already retired, it doesn't really matter any more.

Previous minor recreational drug use is not necessarily a bar to joining up - but you have to have stopped before going through recruitment and training (and maybe demonstrate it, via testing, for a period before joining up).

Can't remember if that was the policy in force when he was joining though.

Class A drug use is a strict sacking offence for everyone and any recreational drug use is a strict sacking offence for officers (there can be other disciplinary measures for very young, very junior soldiers for minor personal use - discretionary depending on circumstances)

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 20:48

I know people in the services who lied about this as well. Ordinary squaddies who join up tend to have had semi difficult backgrounds. I am sure the Officers know that and know lots lie. If they are no longer using it is not really an issue.

Ludo19 · 07/01/2023 21:29

I read that when drug tests were being carried out dimwit Harry was excused but then that could be bullshit....

Snippedasababy · 07/01/2023 21:34

I think loads of people lie.

i don’t actually think they expect people to never have taken drugs. They asked, you answer. If a problem arises from if, it’s your fault for lying.

DistrictCommissioner · 07/01/2023 21:35

I have no idea where they recruit from if squaddies are supposed to have never used drugs.

Quite.

Harry was an officer rather than a squaddie but his reputation as a party prince wasn't exactly unknown.

pocketvenuss · 07/01/2023 22:16

Christ OP give it a rest

rumship · 07/01/2023 22:24

@Chebet I doubt Harry ever applied that`s the problem he was placed there and pushed through, He never had to do what other civilian's had to do to raise through the ranks, just like him being able to sneak out of cam when it was in lock down for a drugs test.

Bunker Harry has always been a over privileged whining little shit.

How pathetic, I joined having never taken drugs so did many of my colleagues.

Unicorn717 · 07/01/2023 22:28

I know a few who have clearly lied if that's the case.

mpsw · 07/01/2023 22:29

Not sure what you mean by civilians rising through the ranks (as civilians by definition can't do that, as they're not in)

But if you're insinuating there was anything hooky about his helicopter pilot training, you're wrong. He had to meet exactly the same standards as all pilots, neither safe nor effective to have a substandard one

FlowerArranger · 07/01/2023 22:29

I'm also wondering how this has affected his status in the US. As far as I know, there are questions about drug use on all immigrant applications. What is his status there anyway? Is he a Permanent Resident or on some sort of visa, if so which?

00100001 · 07/01/2023 22:30

How do we know what he put on his form?

Maybe he said 'yes'?

InsertSomethingMotivationalHere · 07/01/2023 22:34

Lol - get a grip you absolute desperado OP

rumship · 07/01/2023 22:47

@mpsw Who the hell do you think apply for the army civilians, this thread is about army application forms and who they are when they apply and then go on to rise through the ranks once they are in.

Harry was inserted into the military he certainly did not pop off down to the army recruitment office and do an aptitude test, like I did by the way. 🙄

Boulshired · 07/01/2023 22:52

You can’t be using or have been drug dependent. The US is probably why he said 17

If you are in the Army you are not a civilian, by definition.

Yes of course there are civilian posts alongside military personnel, but those civilian staff are not Army members.

Harry did not rise through the ranks, he joined as an officer (meeting the then required standard - though it has subsequently been raised and his A levels would not now meet the current standard), and having passed AOSB (or whatever it was called then) and going to Sandhurst in the usual fashion. He did Ok there, and had an unexceptional career trajectory, and really did meet the standard to pilot helicopters

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/01/2023 00:47

Oh for Christ’s sake, get a bloody life.

Young man tells a fib on application form. Shock, horror.

Have you, seriously, nothing more important to dwell upon?

BringItOn2023 · 08/01/2023 00:52

I double he would have filled out an application for, Lol

The US is hardly going to deport him

F4chrissakes · 08/01/2023 01:08

I sincerely hope the US don't deport him. I don't want him back!

NewYearNora · 08/01/2023 01:09

Oh come on, the vast majority of "normal" 18 year boys will have come across illegal drugs at some point! Harry's not exceptional in this.
