Why does it matter? Because I'm so sick and tired of reading all the malicious, nasty, gossip-mongering stuff about Harry and Meghan that I've hidden The Royal Family topic. So it makes me irritable when I see stuff posted outside of that topic”

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

There was no need to move this thread.

The current revelations means that more people than usual are talking about the royal family. No harm in it being in aibu

As usual those who shout the loudest on mumsnet

I want to keep hearing about it. It's like the best soap opera ever!

Agreed! I'm finding it all very entertaining.

I'm mostly laughing at him, which I suspect wasn't the desired outcome.

Literally zero intention to buy the book itself.

Yes he can write whatever he likes, just like anyone else can.

The RF is full of secrets and everyone has to stay quiet to protect the RF imagine.

Some people can’t cope that he or Megan are so open about it.

I’ve not read the book and probably never will because I don’t care enough but what’s annoying is the people who claim to dislike him and that he’s giving away too much information, are the ones who are hanging off his every word.

noodlezoodle · 06/01/2023 21:11

Yes, why shouldn't he have written it? Just taking after his father and his mother, both of who contributed to their own dirt-dishing books in the 90s.

Also given how clearly the palace are in cahoots with the press, I don't blame him even slightly for wanting to get his side of the story out. I'm just amazed it's so juicy, wasn't expecting it to be incredibly boring. Sounds like a cracking read 😀

SequinsandStilettos · 06/01/2023 21:11

Yes, I think he should have written it but I am not sure he should have published it. It is similar to when you write a letter then burn it. Or write an email then save rather than send.
As a member of a quite dysfunctional family, I have such a mail on my computer. It is for someone I am estranged from and is my "closure" so to speak/right of reply.
I have nothing to lose now by sending it but nor will I gain anything.
It sits there.
It was a way of releasing feelings as I am hurt. I am still hurt.
But I cannot "win" - there is nothing to win as there is no way back.
So it represents a "cri de coeur", it isn't even a plea or a cry for help. It has been stripped and edited so many times.
It is Schroedinger's letter Wink
Thing is, I could send it but it is a catch 22.

  1. Won't know if it is read
  2. Unlikely to get a response
  3. Will be accused of manipulation or dramatics
  4. Content will be twisted
  5. All bridges burned (except they already are really)
So I know where Harry is coming from. Except even if RF do not read it themselves or watch Netflix then they will not have escaped the main gist! But aside from a little financial security and having had his version of events in the public domain, he will not gain what he might have once wanted; an apology, understanding, a different family dynamic, to be heard, validated, vindicated. So yes, I bloody feel for him because he can only heal once he realises he has to mourn the relationship he wished he could have but never had iyswim.

“let’s call it a book review if that makes you happier“

No, it doesn’t. Book reviews by reviewers with intellect and literary credentials have worth. These threads are no more than spiteful, jealous gossip.

Yes...

I dislike his mentioning of the Taliban matter; unnecessarily creates a target on his and the backs of his family.

However, the royal family have been lower to go unchecked and not called to account for poor behaviour which I think just reinforces and allows their bad behaviour to continue. Prince William has had an affair; only the pearl clutchers believe otherwise. It's widely reported and backed up elsewhere. They are allowed to deflect by serving others up as fodder to the gutter press. He is clearly quick tempered and violent... If you remove the royal aspect and someone asked if following said incident should they report it to police/ tell other family members, usually the response would be yes/ ltb/ violence not acceptable.

Most recent example of impropriety where a royal man paid a settlement figure, to a woman he never met, to settle sexual exploitation and abuse claims whilst she was underage (in US). Yet there are no repercussions for an alleged sex offender.

But yes... Harry and Meghan are the problem 🙄🙄🙄

Finally. A voice of reason. I find it so bizarre how much of an echo chamber MN is on Harry and Megan. He's hated for sharing the story of losing his virginity in his own biography? Am I missing something?

It seems that he may have been taken advantage of by an older woman as an emotionally damaged child and not had the 'normal' experience with a peer. So there may be context that gossips here know nothing about...but they wouldn't care. What would they be saying if the story were of a girl's first time, I wonder?

He's now an embarrassment apparently, for outing the royal family as toxic, for exposing them for hurting his mother and possibly contributing to her early death. Most lately hurting his wife by passing information to the press to hurt both of them, all deliberately. The royal family are monsters, even without the blatant paedophilia etc.

But he's not allowed to tell his own story in his own biography? Jesus, the double standards! If people don't like it, I suggest they don't read it!!

Yet in other places, for example C-PTSD forums I frequent, people are able to see how the toxic royals are and have manipulated the debate, just like what happens in every toxic family. The backstabbing, scapegoating and deliberate twisting of the narrative. I suppose they're paying an awful lot of money for that... Troll farms, anyone?

I think he probably does need therapy after dealing with his horrid family for 35 years. Good for him, telling his truth in spite of all of that.

Phrenologistsfinger · 06/01/2023 21:43

It’s great, like enforced group therapy for the RF! I want to hear everyone else’s ‘lived experience’ as well. Hope they can get it all out and lose that mental
repression.

Yes, I see what you mean. If you know how toxic families work, there's no real hope of resolution. His father is probably a narcissist and irredeemable, given how Di was treated, but there might not be much evidence from the outside, so Harry will look crazier the more he tries to explain to people. Still, it's probably best in the long run for his peace of mind to have it out in the open and to not be expected to be in friendly contact with them. Hopefully he and his wife can have some peace together when everything settles down. I'm sure the royals will hunker down and pretend to be above it. They won't want any drama to threaten their brand, so he may have played a blinder all in all. I'm not very interested in them all but I think I'll watch the Netflix series now I'm getting interested.

Can someone please explain why people on these threads are so heavily invested in the lives of complete strangers, whose lives they know nothing about other than what they hear from the rags and tittle tattle and whom they are extremely unlikely to ever know.

Not sure why you are on Mumsnet? We are lots of the time reading about people we have never met and their personal
Life.

Draconis · 06/01/2023 22:08

So many spoilers. Ruining the book.

Sorry, but we just don't need to know who's circumcised, details of loss of virginity or anything about a frost damaged penis

That's not because they're royal. But because they're oversharing with the whole world.

And once you've shown such appalling judgement, it's going to be hard to be taken seriously by anyone, ever. Whatever they thought of him before

And I'm not sure that was the desired outcome.

No he should not. He is one big massive ongoing car crash. I am sick to fucking death of him. Can't believe how much I loathe him and Megzy, compared to how much I liked them 3 or so years ago.

Exactly this!!

Can we force a DNA test on him? 😁

The man wrote a book published throughout the world!

he released a Netflix documentary throughout the world!

it’s on every news channel

its not gossip, it’s current affairs put into the public domain by the subject of the matter.

he WANTS people to talk about it because that will sell his flipping book.

TheClitterati · 07/01/2023 10:00

I'm going to wait and pick a copy of Spare up from the charity shop.

How long do you think it will take for copies to hit the chazzers?
