And there we have the most poignant part of the Prince Harry meltdown thus far…. for me anyway. Absolutely anyone with a relationship to or with someone in the armed forces will know how badly he has properly not just crossed, but happily hurdled lines now. He is a disgrace first and foremost for his attitude to the very difficult and precarious line normal soldiers have to tread. Shame on him.

How many years did Salman Rushdie have to be careful? And it still wasn't long enough. By making his stupid, gutless, irresponsible boasts, he's painted an extra target on himself, his wife and children. And all their associates. He is an utter fool. Another Eton special.

I worry about this now too. He's just put a huge target on his back.

Yes when you actually read more than just a headline grabbing sentence I dont see the problem either.

This is his memoir after all.

Fair enough.

How do you think the Afghan taliban will read it? (And they will)

Frequency · 06/01/2023 09:17

Taken in the context of how it was actually written, rather than the headline, I don't think it's boastful.

Security-wise it's not great but how much control do you really think he had over this book? He will have been pressured for details like this by his ghostwriter, editor, and publisher.

He has control over his own mouth.

if he didn’t want the words “chess pieces” and “25” to be printed then he could have just not said them.

He’s a grown man with extensive experience of the media, minding his tongue when talking and how it all works. Not a silly wee boy bullied into telling stories

slamwich · 06/01/2023 09:41

He's an absolute prat. When Meghan has decided she's had enough of him and moves onto her next rich husband she will divorce him and use his words against him 'I couldn't stay with him, he used cocaine, he was unstable and made us a terrible security risk'. This book is a disaster for him.

MarshaBradyo · 06/01/2023 09:43

i don’t think it’s a boast but he’s very self centred in breaking some kind of code at not doing this

I’m not surprised people in the military are saying he’s wrong on this

RunLolaRun102 · 06/01/2023 09:44

It wasn’t a boast. He was talking about it in terms of a wider context. Maybe next time you should READ the source material rather than just Daily Mail versions of it?

It’s not just being reported in the daily mail though is it? I believe an NY Times reporter is the original source who leaked to the guardian and then a bunch of copies were actually sold in Spain.

It’s safe to say that no one on this thread has actually read the book but that doesn’t mean they can’t comment on reports and extracts without being policed by people believing that the context of the whole book will change anything.

You don't see the problem that by claiming to have killed 25 Taliban he will have put himself, his wife and his two small children at huge risk of reprisal. There is no security in the world that could completely mitigate that risk.

It depends whether you're using the app (which I don't) or via browser
I went to:
My Mumsnet
Settings
Selected Talk Settings from the list on the left hand side
Scrolled down and clicked the Manage hidden threads and topics button
Typed royal into the search box and clicked Hide

I didn't think it had worked as it didn't give me any confirmation but - apart from this one which was posted in the wrong topic - I haven't seen any other Harry posts since.
I reported this one and it's now been moved* *😀Thanks Mumsnet!

Yea I am on a laptop.

Thank You .

Yes, he doesn’t have a ‘critical friend’ in his life at all it seems. The only people surrounding him seem to be people who stand to make money out of him one way or the other, why wouldn’t they want to keep pushing for more, more, more.
I read a comment by pp yesterday that he’ll definitely go to the Coronation because Netflix have probably already contracted him to do so, and I thought that sounds totally plausible, actually.

One of my DD’s has mooted that he’s done this because of the increase in security he’ll need after and that it may push his father into paying for it lest his son end up dead.

Surely not.
Who would endanger their children just to score points with Daddy?

I’m really not trying to be goady but I’m thinking of films like American Sniper. Wasn’t he revered for his supposedly very high number of people he’d killed? Or is it a different culture in the US compared to here?

No it’s not a different culture. If you look at all the British flying aces from WWII they’re listed in order of their number of kills (in that case planes shot down).

The DM were celebrating an SAS marksman who shot 5 Islamic state fighters with a single sniper shot only last year:

Quite

Harry would

newnamethanks · 08/01/2023 10:02

And Harry has done so. He's an ignorant, boastful, whinging infant. Utter disgrace.

Brefugee · 08/01/2023 10:20

I'm ex military - and this has really angered me.
But frankly, the more they speak, and the less the RF react with factual and non-batshit comments, the better it is for republicans like me.
