We at The Sun regret the publication of last week's Jeremy Clarkson column and we are sincerely sorry.

IN last Saturday’s Sun, Jeremy Clarkson wrote a comment article about the Duchess of Sussex.

It provoked a strong response and led to a large number of complaints to IPSO, the independent press regulator.

In a tweet earlier this week, Jeremy said he had made a “clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones”, which had “gone down badly with a great many people” and he was “horrified to have caused so much hurt”.

He also said he will be more careful in future.

Columnists’ opinions are their own, but as a publisher, we realise that with free expression comes responsibility.

We at The Sun regret the publication of this article and we are sincerely sorry.

The article has been removed from our website and archives. The Sun has a proud history of campaigning, from Help for Heroes to Jabs Army and Who Cares Wins, and over 50 years of working in partnership with charities, our campaigns have helped change Britain for the better.

Working with our readers, The Sun has helped to bring about new legislation on domestic abuse, provided beds in refuges, closed harmful loopholes in the law and empowered survivors of abuse to come forward and seek help.

We will continue to campaign for good causes on behalf of our readers in 2023.

No direct apology to the Duchess of Sussex in that statement 😐

Is she? Her life has nothing in common with young working class men. I’d be interested to see such a poll. Define young and define working class?

Under 30s. She is constantly trending for positive reasons on social media. And it’s young wc men who love her the most.

An apology because they realize how many people were offended and it might affect sales.

This times ten trillion.

Even worse than a “Sorry if…”

Clarkson should be sacked. Again.

I'm a Meghan stan but that's not a 100% correct, she trends for negative reasons too, she has dedicated haters. The backlash for Clarkson's comment was because the racism and violence was too overt to ignore, Brits were keen to shown their disagreement this time because it proved the general message of the docu-series to be valid.

She trends everyday for positive reasons from black twitter. Occasionally some people come along, prompted by negative publicity in white media outlets and the media thinks that’s what causes her to trend, but she gets enough engagement everyday for positive reasons. I did a sentiment analysis on this and every trend is overwhelmingly (80%) positive.

Dreadful excuse for an apology, that article should never have been published in the first place. Why an editor didn't get clarkson to tone it down (as a minimum) beggars belief. Absolutely appalling.

Whatthediddlyfeck · 25/12/2022 11:43

As others have said, only sorry they were caught out. I’m no fan of the Sussexes, but he went way too far

I wouldn't even wipe my backside with it.

I predicted last week the teflon Clarkson would walk away in much the same way he came up smelling of roses shortly after punching a Top Gear crew member over a sandwich.

Hand-wringing PR from The Sun was equally predictable. Hypocritical duty done and moving on as far as they're concerned.

(when his only crime was forcing his dickmobiles down our throats ...

What with James May acting the fool and the Hamster making doe eyes at "the star" they always reminded me of a bunch of kids sitting backwards over a chair and going "Vroom vroom"

Henry and Meghan are slightly underwhelmed by the non-apology:

The sad thing is a lot of teens admire Clarkson and if you add it together with the love for Andrew Tate...
It's a real worry.
