Fascinating. What do we think?

He also refused to be questioned by US police who appealed to the UK government, who did nothing. If it was you or I we would have been questioned. Andrew though hid in the Queen's grounds where nobody can enter without permission.
Lets not pretend he was treated like anyone else. He used all his privilege to avoid being questioned and the US police dropped the whole thing.

There is zero chance that I have would advised a client to submit for questions or a trial in a foreign jurisdiction. I suspect far more cost effective to settle.

This is what I had understood was the unanimous U.K. legal opinion. But it has led to an overwhelming opinion that "he must have been guilty or he'd have gone to court"
Andrew is, and always has been, a nasty piece of work regardless of his involvement with Epstein. Possibly Charles is glad of an excuse not to employ him.

It’s been questioned by people who have no idea as to the complexities involved.

But fine for him to interfere in the life who prioritised a convicted sex offender over his public duty? Made his mother shell out millions to protect his arse and lied loudly and publicly about his involvement?

Andrew is not a convicted sex offender.

His mother shelled out millions because she thought it would all go away before her Jubilee. And he probably told her he was innocent - why wouldn't he?

There is absolutely no reason why Charles should pay H & M anything. You leave your job - your salary stops.

@BadgerB I didn’t say Andrew was a convicted sex offender. I said he prioritised a convicted sex offender over his public duty.

that appears not to be a concern for you.
I tend to think promoting and befriending child sex abusers is something our Royal family should try and avoid. It’s not that difficult.

remind me again what official royal job is it Andrew does that warrants security?

FurAndFeathers · 22/12/2022 15:56

verystablegenius · 22/12/2022 12:07

this may be an unpopular view, but Andrew has never been convicted of anything. Everyone assumes he’s guilty

I guess it depends on your moral compass, he doesn’t need to be convicted himself, befriending, prioritising and promoting a convicted child sex abuser is problem enough for me.

I’m always astonished on these threads how many folk will leap to his defence. Would you all welcome child sex abusers into your own lives? If not why do you think it’s acceptable behaviour for a member of the royal family

I’m not defending him. I wouldn’t trust him as far as I would throw him. I think at best he’s pretty thick, at worst a slime ball. I understand why he’s no longer a working royal. But I can also see why, as a public figure, who is threatened, would want protection, and why his brother would foot the bill

chary · 22/12/2022 16:03

he should pay for it himself, he has enough dodgy money.

but won’t foot the bill for his son/DIL who receive actual death threats?

Who was the convicted paedophile Charles supported?

Bishop Peter Ball

Plus he was very chummy with Saville.

its no surprise that conspiracy theories about about a global network of powerful paedophiles…

pompomdaisy · 22/12/2022 16:35

Which is the Duke of York again? Is that Andrew?

Charlieiscool · 22/12/2022 16:39

I don’t know whether we are allowed to call Andrew a nonce but he should pay for his own security. The creep.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 22/12/2022 16:42

All he does is shuffle round Windsor on his horse and then sit in his car.

God, I'll do his security for 3 million quid a year. Whoever gets that job is laughing all the way to the bank.

What makes you think he doesn't travel? He's been to Bahrain recently.

I didn't think Andrew was supposed to be an especially keen horseman - isn't golf more his thing?

Golf was/is a big thing. His patronages included about 70 golf clubs, there were 24 in the UK alone, the very best all over the world. He used to visit them when working as a 'trade envoy'. Yep... such hard work!
They have all dropped him now which means dropping the Royal Golf Club name.

The justice dept wanted to question Andrew as a witness. Andrew offered to answer questions in writing. The Justice Dept want to do a spoken interview. The Justice Dept also talked publicly about Prince Andrew not cooperating. That's going to make, anyone nervous that they'd leak details of anything he said.
I'm not a lawyer but I know sufficient that o would NEVER put myself in the position of being interviewed as a witness which then could turn into a prosecution - especially as I was being sued by another claimant. And I dont believe there are many solicitors that would let their clients do that either.
How do people have such faith that justice systems have their best interests at heart.
And just FYI, Andrew didn't do anything that you're not entitled to do.

Roussette · 22/12/2022 18:49

Could you expand on that?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/12/2022 18:53

Thanks, Roussette; I hadn't realised there were quite so many golf club patronages but with someone like Andrew it makes sense - after all, without one to drop into on "trade visits" he might actually have needed to do some real work and we can't have that Hmm

Exactly. He always tacked on a golf game on to all his trade trips, and from what I've read (who knows if it's true) used to just do that and nothing else (nothing would surprise me!)

His life is very very different now isn't it... he can't visit the USA for starters.

Did not do anything regarding the legal system that any other citizen is not entitled to do.

Out of interest which clubs have lost the royal title. Obviously none from the UK, but in Asia or Africa, or somewhere? Serves them right. If they were in the commonwealth, they should have gone through the Queen.

You would have to google his patronage golf club and work it out. I could do it but it will take me half an hour. From Europe and US and ME if I remember correctly.
When Andrew scandal was at its height I looked at all of them (it's out there somewhere) and I know that they are now not flagged as 'Royal.'

Sorry not to do this for you, just can't!

MarshaMelrose · 22/12/2022 20:36

No bother, @Roussette , I understand. Although if none of these countries have allegiance to the Queen, I don't know why they wouldn't just keep the title "Royal" if they liked it, or indeed just award themselves the title. There are golf courses in the US that have Royal in the title. And they didn't get it from a royal playing there.

Maybe I've got it wrong, I sometimes do!
