The royal family

To think Harry and Meghan are a busted flush now

Just that really.

They’ve done their documentary, the book is imminent, and after that there’s nothing more to say.

And there was nothing earth shattering in the documentary.

Does anyone else wonder why the cameras were rolling for most of it?

But there’s no more material to find as they’ve left the Royal Family now.

It will be interesting to see what they do in the future.

It doesn’t take much of a leap in imagination to think that they may have considered their private exchange of vows to be their real ‘marriage’ in a personal sense, even if not a legal one.

Insisting that it was a purposeful, easily-refuted lie as to when they were legally married, and that it cannot possibly be otherwise understood, just reads as you being determined to see the worst in them.

Not really. “we got married” is pretty unambiguous. They aren’t a pair of dopes who let the odd faux pas slip out. They’re two clever and sharp people who knew exactly what they were doing.

But if the description of what took place was so benign and inconsequential, why did the AofC feel compelled to issue a public denial?

What do you mean? I haven’t changed my mind if that’s what you mean. Was I supposed to? It’s that what we have to do here?

Because the words she used probably did require clarification (which really is something Oprah should have done in the interview itself).

So given that you think they’re clever people, and that is was a deliberate lie that could be easily and irrefutably debunked, what on earth do you think they were trying to achieve?

I wouldn’t like to second guess their actions or why they seem to be economical with the truth. But I do think it’s part of the fact that They are playing to an American audience, not a British one. They rely on Americans knowing diddly squat about the UK cultures/laws and RF. I doubt they care much that her words led to the AofC releasing a statement confirming the truth.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 17/12/2022 23:36

But if you really think she genuinely thought that they were getting married then I’ll ask you - why would an otherwise very intelligent woman believe that? Or if she knew it WASN’T a real wedding, why would she use those words knowing they’re factually incorrect

Lapland123 · 17/12/2022 23:41

Can’t stand the whinging, entitled, highly privileged pair who want sympathy, somehow!
but am mostly shocked reading this thread that Jeremy Clarkson wrote that. Horrendous.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 17/12/2022 23:16

Really?

For starters, it questioned the integrity of poor Justin Welty who was probably doing them a quick schmaltzy favour. It would have been illegal and he had to come out and defend himself. If someone accused me of breaking the law through my work I’d be fucking furious.

Also by describing the wedding as a ‘spectacle for the plebs world’ to the point they had to have their own special ceremony, is quite rude considering all the people who turned out to celebrate, held street parties and wished them well with genuine kindness.

I honestly think you're massively reaching with both those comments but I've heard them before of course, it's very much the line that's taken by those who dislike her/them.

It doesn't ring true though. In what world is anyone genuinely up in arms on behalf of the Archbishop of Canterbury (who found it easy enough to clarify the situation) or that oversensitive about a woman making a comment about her own wedding? Ok, we all wished them well and it was a nice day but it was a spectacle as well - in a good way!

But yes keep repeating the talking points I guess if there's mileage to be got from it.

onmywayamarillo · 17/12/2022 23:49

I'm honestly starting to think these posts are all from the comms teams all trying to one up each other!

We don't care! It was an interesting watch!

Who’s up in arms? Now THAT’S a stretch. Just disagreeing with people who said it couldn’t be seen as a lie

Who? I don't know, maybe all the people who have made literally hundreds of posts very similar to yours. Or maybe it's all just a bit of manufactured outrage and nobody cares that much. But it's certainly still being discussed.

Could anyone explain why they have seemingly filmed their every footstep?

Even from before they decided to leave the RF?

Why would they have done that if it wasn’t always intended to make this documentary?

Can you explain why you watched all the footstep clips in the Netflix show @Butterflyfluff ? Or why you watched the show at all, given that them even just walking, pisses you off so much?

“Meghan, though, is a different story. I hate her. Not like I hate Nicola Sturgeon or Rose West. I hate her on a cellular level. At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her. Everyone who’s my age thinks the same way.”

In a national newspaper for crying out loud.

That’s deranged.

Sindonym · 18/12/2022 06:51

That’s actually quite scary. It shouldn’t be published. What has happened to the U.K.?

Sindonym · 18/12/2022 06:55

Incidentally if anyone is offended/up in arms/angry about them maybe having has- private ceremony as well as the big wedding you are proving their point. You do not own them - and if you think you have a right to see their only wedding you need to take a look at yourself.

Ohhhh that was Clarkson? I’ve always found him quite funny on Top Gear, The Grand Tour, Clarkson’s Farm etc. But it’s been apparent for a long time that he is a pretty grim person who just doesn’t know where the boundaries are. Not funny Jeremy. Especially given the threats she has received. Where was the editor? Clarkson spouts this shit and needs winding in.

  1. If you don't want to read a thread about a subject don't click on it and in addition hide it......especially when it's bloody obvious what the thread is about
  1. MN should move threads to the correct section quickly

When my cousin got married ,himself and his wife had to have a !legal ceremony at the town hall ( this was in France 20+ years ago) which very few people attended. ,they had a church ceremony the next day which everybody attended ,they considered the church ceremony their actual wedding despite being already legally married ,so it's not inconceivable H&M considered the private exchange of vows more important to them, than the very public actual wedding watched millions around the world.

CampervanKween · 18/12/2022 10:31

There was a similar fuss about a marriage situation on Real Housewives of Miami 🤣 one of the Housewives got married on the show, but then all the others said the couple was already married and there was a big hoo ha about whether or not it was a legal marriage or an exchange of vows. People do love their drama for sure.
