U.K. tabloids are grim and they clearly hounded Meghan as they did to all the new wives over the last few decades, v misogynyistic, but I know there was also a racist element too on top by some of the tabloids. It wasn’t abundant but it was there and that is not ok.

As for Meghan, I obviously don’t know her. I know people spoke admiringly of her Grendel cook book initiative and that should be acknowledged. I find her claims she didn’t know who Harry was as farcical and also as if she didn’t know you had to curtesy to the Queen. Also I don’t forget she insisted she had no input to the Finding Freedom book but at the appeal court had to admit she had sent via a third party an outline of her biography.

As a couple I find the idea of Harry and Meghan being warriors taking shots at the Establishment a bit rich. They aren’t against the institution, as evidenced by them keeping their titles and they wanted to still be part of it but on their own terms. Their claims in the Oprah interview around Archie potentially not being made a Prince then and or in the future due to the colour of his skin doesn’t bear scrutiny due to the existing rules of the Letters patent and Charles indicating he wanted to slim down the monarchy long before Meghan came on the scene. It is what European royal houses are having to do if they want to survive. Separate argument whether they should (I am a Republican). They seem to put out a lot of half truths.

Also I think if a family member had made a racist remark then name them or take it up privately with them, by not naming them it cast aspersions on every member of the family which I think was badly done.

I think it’s sad two brothers have become so estranged and by the sounds of it a relationship between father and son has come under a lot of strain too. I note we are only hearing one side of the story. As is usual there will be their side, the other side and then the truth.

Burgoo · 16/12/2022 19:10

I don't know her personally.

What I find hard to fathom is how they continually bang on about how they want their privacy and tell their own story etc and then go on and on and on. It's as though they want to cause anger and resentment in the UK so they can then play the victim and make a tidy profit off the documentaries, books, interviews etc. But of course I wouldn't think that! Its way too cynical.

CulturePigeon · 16/12/2022 20:35

At first I thought this thread title was meant to be ironic...but alas, I think OP is being serious.

It's beyond me how anyone can be taken in by Megan - you'd never guess she was a Hollywood actress, would you?!!! It's almost as it she can cry on demand...

I've only seen bits of their Netflix films. I think more than a couple of minutes of that manipulative drivel would make me physically sick.

But each to their own.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/12/2022 20:39

I obviously don't know her but from what I've seen of her I don't like her or her dim husband. They might be lovely in real life but I wouldn't trust them

TodayIsFridayHooray · 16/12/2022 21:06

I'm sorry, but the whole Netflix series was narcissistic propoganda! Of course they came over well and believable! That was the point. It was to tell one version of the truth and get everyone on their side.

I've met many men in prison during my career! Some incredibly charming, very very believable, tell 'their' truth, talk about how suicidal they've been, how awful x, y and z were. Despite the context I've occasionally been drawn in to almost believing their truth because they are so convincing and tell one side of the story (often embellished with lies) very VERY well! (Pretty sure an actor could tell it even more convincingly!) ...Then ... I read the other side of the story and realise the version of the truth I heard was FAR from the full story.

Sadly we won't hear the other side of the story because the royals won't stoop that low and will always maintain 'Harry and Meghan are well loved members of the family' and no statements of defence will be issued.

I just feel so very sad for how Harry will feel in 10 years time when Meghan has divorced him and he no longer has her or any of his family, friends, or the UK for support.

No matter what, NEVER air your laundry to millions. Bad bad move.

And Kate has been complicit in this shit forever. THe pick-me girl stuff is obvious. See also: Kate telling Beatrice there was a fancy dress party when it wasn't fancy dress so she turned up in a costume, wearing a pale lemon that photographed as white or cream to Meghan's wedding, that Vogue article that slaughtered her and her mother, etc. Extremely telling that Kate has zero female friends and any that are mentioned are actually "friends of the couple". If William ever divorces her she better hold on tight. She could have made it easy by befriending Meghan but instead relished the comparisons of St Kate versus the evil Meghan, and no, she has no sense of justice - she is in it to the bitter end of getting the crown as she has no other personality, likes or interests. Her mother is to blame up to a point but as an adult Kate has done the most to be praised whilst doing fuck-all actual work. Shitty Meghan stories were easy wins for Kate.

Wow you are doing exactly what people have done to MM here. Making shit up to suit your own narrative. How do you know she has no female friends or is a 'pick me' girl. You are talking utter bollocks.

UseAMuckySock · 15/12/2022 23:03

I don’t like or dislike her. I do however believe her.

Yes. That about covers it.

Objectively, she is intelligent, confident and compassionate, all of which are desirable attributes for anyone, at any station in life.

Vanillapodder · 16/12/2022 21:20

Yabu

MarshaMelrose · 16/12/2022 23:14

Isn't that just a scene from Bridget Jones Diary?

🤔

Thedogscollar · 15/12/2022 23:24

She is as far from a Kardashian as you could possibly observe.

Agree! Kardashians are way more appealing/classy.. And that's saying something as a non kardashian fan...

sofasofa42 · 15/12/2022 23:16

I feel a bit ashamed that I believed the media tbh. I have watched the Netflix doc. I believe them. I also don't enjoy the media coverage of the documentary, which actually stands up to what they are saying .
Ultimately, anyone who cares needs a life audit.

They are slating the machine behind the royal family. Not the actual people. Potentially at times, what the machine makes their family members do. Honestly - please get all of them out of the press. I am done with it.

Or we all need to get rid of the monarchy and then a law passed about press intrusion.

👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

OP - YANBU. I much prefer MM to the RF.

handbagsandholidays · 16/12/2022 23:34

Mamai90 · 15/12/2022 23:57

I've only watched one episode but I thought the first scene where its 'proof' that she didn't have a clue who Harry was (what a load of BS, she's not from Mars).

I neither like or dislike her. I suspect what they've said about the RF is true though. I believe she did purposefully set her sights on Harry, not so much for the fame and fortune but because she wanted a bigger platform for the work she wanted to do.

It's funny because I didn't know Denmark had a queen until our queen died and I read an article about an invitation then some titles being withdrawn. Why does everyone assume an American would know who the grandson of the British queen was?

Bronzeisthecolour · 16/12/2022 23:36

704703hey · 15/12/2022 23:15

She comes across like a Kardashian

Yes! Mediocre acting at best!

marvellousmaple · 16/12/2022 23:37

They are both so bothersomely boring. Never want to hear about them again.

MarshaMelrose · 16/12/2022 23:50

Because she had a book about Diana's life on her coffee table. Pretty sure it would mention she was married to the queens son and she had two sons. Although maybe she just looked at the pictures.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 17/12/2022 00:14

I'm much prefering this too the Oprah thing.
She just seems more easy going and natural . I think it's easy to see why she's had trouble in the stiffest family on earth

BilliousBob · 17/12/2022 00:15

I love them. They are the best thing to happen to this country for a long time....

Twobirdsinatree · 17/12/2022 00:17

YANBU
Up to you what to think of her.
I dont really know her even as a fan coz I try and avoid royal family content.. but I do feel sympathetic towards her just due to the sheer vitriol I see plastered around by people.. that seems to have no real basis in anything.

LadyHarmby · 17/12/2022 06:51

Because she had a book about Diana's life on her coffee table

Says who?

Blocked · 17/12/2022 07:01

It's not that I like or dislike her, I don't know her. I do find it concerning when someone gets into a relationship and within a few years they're estranged from their family and friends, it's not always sinister but it is a red flag that it's possibly not a very healthy relationship.

Luellie · 17/12/2022 07:10

My opinion on Meghan is a very superficial one, which is the same as how I feel about any royal family member. They exist, I find gossip about them interesting, they do some charity work. I don't think too deeply about any of them.

Meghan is very beautiful, and she is very well spoken. Yes the American word salad talk is a bit jarring to British ears, but I can still appreciate she speaks well. Also her voice is just very nice, regardless of the words she says.

I have a lower opinion of Harry, who I think is whiny and should have better prepared Meghan.

So yes, I like Meghan too OP!

helford · 17/12/2022 07:19

From what i ve seen of them, like them both.

I think they are telling the truth, explains a lot,

Becclescake · 17/12/2022 07:25

I do. I've watched the Netflix series and think she comes across as genuine and vulnerable. Actress or not, she's still a human being. To me, the series is just their way of getting the truth out there- especially as the Oprah interview didn't manage to do the trick.

lurkinglittleladybug · 17/12/2022 07:25

I like Meghan too.

The UK press were awful to her and downright racist. She didn’t deserve that… Harry moved to the States with her to protect his wife and family, and I have a lot of respect for Harry. I think he did the right thing.

I also think the Royal family are toxic as fuck (perhaps they always have been, look how they treated Diana)… mostly the younger generations after the Queen. As far as Harry and Meg are concerned I say good on them for getting out of that shit show of a family and starting their own life.

Becclescake · 17/12/2022 07:26

AnnieSnap · 15/12/2022 23:04

Having watched all 6 episodes of the Netflix series, Harry and Meghan seem to me to be a lovely couple who weren’t prepared to slot into soulless little boxes to suit the British establishment. They then had to fight for their independence and her mental health. I admire Meghan’s work for women’s rights and welfare both before and since her relationship with Harry.

Here here!
