The royal family

Is anyone else thinking the optics are off: royals in a golden coach whilst the UK is in a cost of living crisis?

People are struggling to heat their homes, feed their kids and pay their mortgages but the royals are in the Mall in a golden carriage and giving state banquets.

Can't we just get rid of the lot of them?

Where do you live Rousette? Come to london and pop to buck palace and you might see them yourselves. If not then there’s lots of fab things to do in London for tourist anyway.

I know London well having adult in DCs in London
I have lots to do when I come up and it doesn't involves hanging around looking for members of the royal family!!!

sashagabadon · 26/11/2022 10:15

But Rousette they are going somewhere. They don’t just drive up and down the mall and round and round the statue outside buck palace. And they use the roads in central london and then they might drive to a destination outside london.
this is a fun discussion but I don’t get your disbelief

sashagabadon · 26/11/2022 10:16

And you might see them by accident. I did twice!

We hosted foreign students visiting London on school trips for years.

They were regularly taken to see the changing of the guard and not one of them ever saw a royal.

sashagabadon · 26/11/2022 10:17

That’s a shame. Next time they might! And they would have loved it if they had.

Perhaps they’re driving to “work”.

sashagabadon · 26/11/2022 10:18

Yes perhaps they are.

I think they'd have had more chance of seeing a unicorn.

sashagabadon · 26/11/2022 10:21

But unicorns are fictional! The royal family are real people that drive about and go places and have to leave buildings and drive on roads. Unicorns are none of those things.

Honestly you are talking nonsense!

I don't want to compromise my privacy by revealing too much but I promise you, you cannot see members of the the RF just like that!

Firstly I am not interested.

Secondly I live round the corner from Charles and don't see.him!

I luvs you lol

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 26/11/2022 10:24

I totally agree that a state visit such as this is unacceptable and unnecessary in todays economic climate. Add to this, the climate change of flying them here.

Zoom is the way forward!

CathyorClaire · 26/11/2022 10:24

Quite.

Just like the notion the royals are haunting central London day in day out.

sashagabadon · 26/11/2022 10:31

Oh well I can’t convince you that the royals go in cars in royal convoys to get places and drive on roads in london and people can see them drive past sometimes and I have seen them twice in last couple of months.
there’s actually photos of them in cars at times but you will have to Google if you are interested.
I am vaguely intrigued as to how you think they do travel about , walk or get the tube? but otherwise it’s been a fun discussion and Rousette if you live by Clarence House you have been exceptionally unlucky to never see Prince Charles going somewhere. Keep your eyes peeled though, today could be the day!

This is making me laugh!

Charles spends a lot of time NOT in Clarence House. He is a a man who prefers the country

I have no desire to see any of the RF!

MadameMinimes · 26/11/2022 10:51

I think the case for a ceremonial constitutional monarchy is pretty strong.

Of the 190-odd countries in the world, just 28 are ceremonial constitutional monarchies. In the Democracy index in 2021 7 of the top 12 most democratic countries in the world were ceremonial constitutional monarchies, so they are disproportionately represented at the top of the index. Ceremonial constitutional monarchies are often very healthy democracies.

sashagabadon · 26/11/2022 10:59

Sadly for Charles I think his days of spending his time in the country are gone. Your chances of seeing him now have probably improved by 1000% 😁
As you live next to his central london home ironically you might just be one of the most likely people in the whole of the U.K. to see Charles out and about. Good luck with not seeing him! 😁

Completely agree!

I genuinely don’t understand people’s obsession with the fact that other people’s experience’s may have been different to theirs. That doesn’t make them false? Particularly when it is something that is purely down to chance. 🤷‍♀️

I have lived and worked in London for many years, and never randomly seen a member of the Royal family out and about there, but friends certainly have. And I did see Princess Anne randomly when I was in Edinburgh once.

As if the continuation of the monarchy depended on spotting them 24 hours a day. We know they exist and they turn up to perform their allotted duties at the right time and place

Ironically Rousette probably will be able to accidentally spot Charles and Camilla almost 24 hours a day! She lives by Clarence House after all. Puts my two times royal spots into perspective. I thought I was doing ok 😁

My mother met Princes Margaret at several functions, DH & I saw Prince William at a film premiere we were invited to a couple of years ago (pre-Covid), I've seen HMQ drive past when I was out running in London and my DS works for one of the King's godchildren and has met Charles a couple of times. I spend a lot of time in London I routinely see various celebs at functions, work events, shopping (espec. King's Rd and luvvies around Charing Cross Rd/Soho).

stuntbubbles · 26/11/2022 12:21

Lived in London for 20 years and walked past Buck Pal, the mall, etc, daily for many of those, and the only celebrity I ever saw was Trigger from Only Fools and Horses. Have met Charles and Camilla, though. Can’t remember a thing about it because they don’t feed you much at receptions but they have a generous hand with the royal champagne.
