Who is watching Crown Series 4?

I watched the first two episodes tonight. It reminded me of a lot of things I had forgotten. I was an adult during this time and remember a lot of what is being covered.

Particularly interesting was the information about Morton's book, including the tapes Diana made for him. I knew this had happened, but it really did explode in the press at the time. So many revelations about Diana and Charles that at the time were quite extraordinary.

Looking forward to the other episodes.

Diana was 5'10". I do remember her commenting when she got divorced, that at least she'll be able to wear heels again.

LaMarschallin · 13/11/2022 11:45

Interesting. I didn't know Diana had said that (although I remember flats becoming popular because she wore them a lot when they were engaged).
I remember Nicole Kidman being reported as saying it after her divorce from Tom Cruise. Perhaps she got the idea from Diana.

ajandjjmum · 13/11/2022 13:39

You've got me thinking @LaMarschallin - maybe I'm getting Diana and Nicole mixed up on this?

Whataretheodds · 13/11/2022 13:43

Diana in heels was taller than Charles. That's why she wore a lot of flats. For their wedding stamp he stood on a box so he would look taller compared with her.

Morestrangethings · 13/11/2022 13:57

I think she stopped slouching after their separation. Or maybe that was Nicole too?

I'm not sure.
It's a good line though - I can imagine them both saying it.
Maybe Nicole acquired it...

I think when it comes to Charles I have wondered if it's really right for him to be King given the way Diana was treated.

Since when has upright moral character been a requirement for the monarch? I think that would disqualify most of them. Not to mention P.Ms

She wasn't taller than Charles Spencer, though, who is a tall man, but in this series she towers over him. I found her height distracting all through the series. The casting on the whole was a disappointment.

Yes you are!

RosettaStormer · 13/11/2022 15:32

I’m really enjoying it. I think Charles is very miscast and hasn’t tried to emulate his speech or mannerisms. Diana is great. I like Imelda Staunton as the Queen. Don’t like the PP character. Nothing like him.

CellarBellaatemycoal · 14/11/2022 15:28

Diana’s character seems ‘younger’ and more girlish than Diana ever did ? Especially around the time of the tv interview. Maybe it’s just that I was younger than Diana at the time.

milti · 15/11/2022 19:20

I’m finding it a bit boring - only on episode 5 - the al fayed stuff and Prince Philip carriage riding was good - other stuff is like old ground I think

milti · 15/11/2022 19:23

The Diana actress is fab - she is much taller and thinner than Diana though - the tallness looks a bit odd

antelopevalley · 15/11/2022 19:27

Incredibly boring. They have stayed away from controversy.

On episode 8 and it's really disappointing!

Pearfacebanana · 15/11/2022 19:35

I'm on episode 3 and bored. Loved the rest.

Ohnonevermind · 15/11/2022 23:07

It’s just really dull. The costume and location people are brilliant as ever but the writing is so pedestrian, I turned it off. The only good bits were the flashbacks to the Queen as a young person. Claire Foy was wonderful.

Peter Morgan should have stopped after 2 series, rather than trying to be clever and recasting.

OliviaBean · 17/11/2022 16:37

My tuppenceworth after finishing it today.

Diana was too tall, constantly looking up and slouched, very off putting. As some other poster mentioned, she started a lot of conversations to strangers by giving out about the royals.
I liked Dominic West, thought he did a good Charles, a bit too good looking but I liked the character.
Prince Philip and the QM just didn't seem right.
Margaret and John Major were very good, I wonder did QE really like him that much.
QE was ok, played the stoic monarch well.
I felt for PW, he really had a difficult childhood with being his mother's so called Rock, how sad for him.

Overall I didn't think it was the best season but costumes, settings etc were as usual excellent so worth watching.

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 16:52

It is not the recasting that is the issue.
I think the Royal Families lobbying worked and they have left out anything interesting and settled for failr pedestrian scandals instead. That is what makes it boring.

I agree, it was boring and I didn't think it was that controversial, even the PP and Penny storyline wasn't that bad..

Perhaps people's loyalty to the RF is heightened due to QE's death.

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 17:13

It was not at all controversial. That is what made it boring.
Oh Philip had a friendship with a woman, big deal.

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 17/11/2022 19:04

Didn't a few MNetters go into a froth some weeks ago because the Daily Mail said S5 depicted intimate love scenes between Philip and Penny?

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 19:11

They did. I asked them how they knew it showed this as the show had not been screened at that point. They did not answer.

Runmybathforme · 17/11/2022 19:14

Not watching this series, it's fiction, as the author has pointed out repeatedly. I saw one of the Queen's closest friends being interviewed this morning, she was represented in one of the series, she said it was complete nonsense, and that the depicted events simply never happened.

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 19:24

Which events? Because some events clearly did happen.
