By 1986, the palace was fine with letting Diana get slagged off by the press.

By 1994, well, all hell had broken loose !

What a waste of an egg, in these trying times. They are hard to get hold of round here!

My main concern too, no eggs to be had in these parts!

RaininSummer · 10/11/2022 10:37

The lad who threw the eggs should lose his uni place in my opinion.

Of course he should not and I am horrified that anyone wants to ruin someone's life in this way for a very minor public order issue.

PalatineHill · 10/11/2022 14:23

Of course he should not. Let the law deal absolutely with his stupid and nasty mistake, but he should not permanently lose a place in education for that reason.

Gilmorehill · 10/11/2022 15:24

Q2C4 · 10/11/2022 11:28

Oooo now if KCIII had actually turned around and punched the egg thrower in the face, that would have been a much more exciting story!!

🤣🤣🤣

It’s unlikely I think. He’s a white man, after all. Can’t ruin their future prospects…

Charlie Gilmour was famously able to return to his place at Cambridge after he smashed in a shop window and swung from the flags on the Cenotaph at a student fees protest (and he was actually sentenced to a prison term for violent disorder fro his activities).

antelopevalley · 10/11/2022 17:52

@sere Nobodys life should be destroyed for this kind of stuff whoever they are.

xPeaceX · 10/11/2022 17:58

I thought the police r3sponse was a bit OTT.

Lil50 · 10/11/2022 18:03

I was interested in the moronic reasoning of the egg thrower in that he was apparently protesting against the slave trade which if he had read his history Britain led the way in abolishing in Europe. Yes we know that Britain had a dark history of slavery but so does just about every other country in the world.

PrincessJanet · 10/11/2022 18:08

I think that’s easy to say in hindsight of knowing it was just eggs and just one man.

Quite. Out of all the historical injustices, not to mention current crises, to choose to shout about that was an odd choice.

antelopevalley · 10/11/2022 18:10

@Lil50 You do know the Royal Family refuse to return looted treasures?

Really? 'He's the king ' - that's the start and end of your argument.

That is the problem

People were arrested for holding a sign saying ' not my king'
An academic was arrested for shouting ' who elected him?' at one of those ridiculous 'proclamations'

To be honest an academic should know that Kings are not elected and not need to ask who elected one.

And yes, he is the King, and he should be safe in his own country. If you don't understand that, there are plenty of republics who would welcome you. None of them have our tourism profitability or our portfolio of investors from people wowed by our last selling point.

They also don't have our voter protections.

So long as you feel the same if Harry and Meghan had eggs thrown at them, but I expect you would be horrified and demand they have extra protection against the ‘haterz’.

Well, he also would have learnt that we led the charge with slavery - except we did our slaving overseas, in plantations, in islands. Just to keep our hands seemingly clean you see. Then, when that cause was clearly lost, we then came around to 'abolish slavery', exactly like the white knights we thing we are.

Britain saved nothing !

I thought it was funny.

It's called irony

Novella4 · 10/11/2022 19:10

@PeekabooAtTheZoo
Sorry to break it to you but the tourism argument has been debunked repeatedly

AnApparitionQuipped · 10/11/2022 19:15

I am a republican, but Charles and Camilla, like any human beings, should be able to go about their lives without being threatened or attacked. The egg throwing was wrong - he should have protested peacefully.

That is extremely questionable historically but there is no point in arguing on this thread

PicturesOfDogs · 10/11/2022 19:24

On a serious note though, it’s right he was arrested.
If this was a right winger chucking eggs at left wing politicians people would expect them to be punished. It doesn’t change just because you don’t like the target.

As for the comments about being harassed and the police doing nothing, you’re angry at the wrong thing.
You shouldn’t be angry they ARE doing something about this incident because they’re not doing something about yours. You should be angry they’re NOT doing anything in your case.
If that makes sense?!?
