Why didn't they say to the rf she isn't naive and sheltered she is actually emotionally fragile and this whole thing will blow up

Hindsight. What a wonderful thing.

LookingAtYou · 29/10/2022 17:23

'Hindsight. What a wonderful thing.'

Well yes but her family knew her. Surely it isnt hindsight when they knew she was fragile and would not cope with the upcoming circus. They of course have to live with the regret but it's always the rf that get criticised never her 'blood family' who let her down so appallingly both in life then in death going along with the awful ostentatious funeral.

MidnightConstellation · 29/10/2022 17:27

The Spencer family is spectacularly dysfunctional. Diana’s grandmother wouldn't support her daughter when she left a miserable abusive marriage. Diana’s brother has been married several times and didn’t treat his first wife well. They aren’t any sort of template for an emotionally literate family. They make the RF look like the Waltons.

So how dare he wang on 'blood family' looking after W&H?! I bet if her dm was there (was she?) She'd want to shout bollocks we don't even look after each other.

All so sad, tragic and unnecessary. Typically its always the rf's fault though.

pumpkinscoop · 29/10/2022 17:32

LookingAtYou, there's a rumour Boris Johnson helped him write his funeral speech, which would explain much.

'The royal family were not clueless re Diana They planned the whole thing - she had to be virgin , all the better if naive and sheltered too so Camilla and Charles could gaslight her'

Yes but why didn't her family protect her? Why didn't they say to the rf she isn't naive and sheltered she is actually emotionally fragile and this whole thing will blow up. It can't have been a surprise how she unravelled surely?

Well I assume they didn't know she was to be used as a brood mare while Charles and Camilla sneaked around behind her back ?

Or are you suggesting they did know ?

BasiliskStare · 29/10/2022 17:36

@LookingAtYou "He needs to take some inspiration from the guys in the Invictus Games and learn how to move on from bad experiences not wallow in them."

I really like that post and I will say that the Invictus Games is Harry's ( IMHO ) one good achievement 💐

Ccould he have done it without being Charles's second son - probably not so he should I think see where he can make a difference - if that is what he chooses to do. He & his wife seem to be going down the earn lots of money lifestyle and then do a few things for charity track. That is their choice.

I'm suggesting they knew she was naive, fragile, possibly had wellbeing issues. I'm suggesting her sisters could have predicted what lay ahead, not infidelity and a tragic car crash obviously but her instability and inability to cope with the constant scrutiny and pressure.

Diana also begged her brother to be allowed to live in a cottage on the family estate. He said no. She didn’t speak to him for some time afterwards , in fact might not have been speaking to him when she died. All the ‘blood family’ talk was bollocks.

Novella4 · 29/10/2022 17:41

@LookingAtYou
Way to victim blame

LookingAtYou · 29/10/2022 17:43

'Way to victim blame'

What by pointing out some folk insist on blaming the rf but it was her own family who spectacularly let her down? Confused

smilesy · 29/10/2022 17:45

@smilesy my point is protocol is bullshit

And they quickly overturned their precious protocol when the public mood became clear .

Yeeted that protocol right out the window

Yes, I understood your point. But they never flew the Royal Standard at half mast. Only the Union flag

Well, by that stage, she would have been using it as a shag pad so I don't blame him for refusing.

Novella4 · 29/10/2022 17:47

@LookingAtYou

Did you read the Marina Hyde article ?
She touches on some people being unable to accept the state of the royals and their actions.
I've seen excuses made for Andrew on here , no doubt excuses next for Mountbatten .
Now blaming Diana's family . Follow your line of argument or you can for moment . Yes her brother was wrong to refuse her a home - but why did she need the home - because of Charles and the royals .

What the hell? Don’t be ridiculous.

Novella4 · 29/10/2022 18:12

@LookingAtYou
"her instability and inability to cope with the constant scrutiny and pressure."

Diana was well able to cope with the public position she had . She was a natural and whether you call her an actress or not , the public loved her and she knew it .

She was expected to put u and shut up like the other royal wives and their husbands affairs .
She didn't so she was labelled 'unstable' ( you'd be unstable if you were constantly gaslit )
William , disgracefully, has reiterated the 'unstable ' trope in order to attempt to shore up his father and his own future position.
They like to rewrite history

MidnightConstellation · 29/10/2022 18:04

Well she was. I really liked her but I am just stating facts.

And how do you describe Charles behaviour?

@Croque
And how do you describe Charles behaviour?

I have a really low opinion of him. I cannot judge him without remembering tampongate every single time. I also dislike the way they have played a PR game to make Camilla seem respectable (even though it may be true that she is doing a good job now that her raging lust for him is being satiated!).

Charles claims that Diana cheated first and he only resumed his affair after she had begun cheating. However, I do not believe him. I believe that the outcomes for both princes would have been a lot better if they never had Charles as a father. I do not think Harry's anger towards him is misplaced at all but he needs to separate that from his feelings towards his brother.

Novella4 · 29/10/2022 18:25

@Croque
I'd no idea Charles claimed that !
Cheek of him

Hang on a minute. The Establishment, The Royal Family, know exactly what it takes to join their circus. It is they that should have done background checks. They wanted someone like Diana who they thought would put up with the bullshit quietly. They didn't expect her to fight back. And for Charles to suggest Diana cheated first... is there any sane person who believes that?!

Charles didn’t claim that at all. He said the marriage had broken down. That could mean anything. He was emotionally hung up on Camilla all through their marriage and so not invested in his relationship with his wife. If she found comfort with another man eventually, who can blame her? You seem to be suggesting she was shagging anyone . Not true.

headstone · 29/10/2022 18:43

It was an arranged marriage that didn’t work as they had nothing in common and a total personality clash, I can’t see the point now so many years later looking at who cheated first. It would have ended regardless.

Novella4 · 29/10/2022 18:46

@headstone
It was the deceit

Charles knew that Diana was being set up .
Charles and Camilla lied , sneaked around , tortured Diana .

When Diana let it be known how unhappy she was she was ignored and eventually thrown to the wolves .

Sound familiar ?

Novella4 · 29/10/2022 18:50

And in Diana's own words ' there were three of them in the marriage'

'A personality clash ' is also re writing history .
