Camilla couldn’t give a fig about being Queen

Queen or Queen consort, please let’s not discuss that.

She has great involvement in issues that she’s bothered about like Osteoporosis, children reading, domestic violence.

Her services, at Local and national level, alone or with The King are regular and demanding for a lady of her age.

Her husband loves her. She loves him. She has made him more human

Queen (or whatever, is the last priority for her)

Agree to some extent but she and Charles did treat Diana appallingly. It was a horrible mess at the time.

I agree. She comes across as down to earth and good for Charles, but the way they tried to use Diana was pretty nasty.

Samcro · 03/10/2022 10:36

I like Camila, she was patron of my Childs school and cam across as very nice when she visited.
but bet she loves being "queen" same a Princess anne, she love being royal.
these people are not humble/down to earth, they just let you believe that.

I thought it had been made clear to him camilla was unacceptable

He didn't cheat with her until after Harry was born and Diana admitted she cheated first

There are some people who will always believe that Charles and Camilla were having a full-blown sexual intercourse relationship from before his marriage to Diana and all the way through that marriage. I don't know if there is any truly reliable evidence for this, in the same way that I don't know if there was ever evidence that the RF 'wouldn't let him marry Camilla', which has become something of a cliche, like 'they wouldn't let Margaret marry Townsend'.

There are other people who will always believe his own words in the (Jonathon?) Dimbleby interview, that he was unfaithful to Diana, presumably in the sense of a physical, sexual relationship with Camilla, only after his marriage had 'broken down irretrievably', to use the old legal words.

Part of his training for his role in life was to go off and do a stint in the services. I think he did his degree first, then he was in the Navy, but surely he did some time in the RAF too. I'm not sure whether it was Navy first and RAF after.

I don't think Camilla has an inflated sense of her own importance. In that sense I don't think she could care a fig for the consequence of her social status. I do think that she understands the concept of 'service'.

Do Camilla and Kate and Meghan all do their own mascara? How can they manage it? They all have my admiration on that score.

Charles was cheating on Diana with Camilla all the way through the marriage.
It is an attempt to rewrite history that he "only" cheated when the marriage was basically dead.

Arbesque · 03/10/2022 12:07

They may not have been cheating from the start if the marriage, but she was constantly there hanging around in the background, giving presents, making her presence felt. It was terribly unfair on Diana and very disrespectful towards her. She also seems to have encouraged the marriage presumably assuming that because Diana was young and didn't appear to be very bright or assertive, that she would put up with this 'friendship'.
She got that wrong and was extremely unpopular with the British public for a long time. She seems to have redeemed herself and appears likable enough but she's not somebody I would ever respect.

You don't know any of this is factual.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 03/10/2022 12:25

It is a matter of fact. There are multiple accounts of what happened.

Well. Recollections may vary.

TheTantrumoftheToddlerIsThere · 03/10/2022 12:27

I was always under the impression that it was an emotional affair at the beginning. Not that it makes it any better (in my eyes that would be a lot worse than a physical affair). But that’s just my interpretation.

'I think she will be more popular than her husband, just as his last wife was.'

And still is !

cabansunset · 03/10/2022 12:35

I really like Camilla, I think she's a breath of fresh air. The life and friendship between them is obvious to see, it's lovely. She hasn't stepped a foot wrong since they were married and that's what's earned her such great respect.

SirChenjins · 03/10/2022 12:38

I like her - she comes across as v sensible (anyone who keeps their own home and has regular time away from their husband is eminently sensible imo), down to earth, easy to talk to, and not really bothered by fancy titles or show.

How far do we trust the documentary evidence? We may consider inherent bias.

Camilla went onto the Royal train in the evening where Charles was staying in the days before his wedding. A reporter spotted her sneaking on.
Nobody can say whether they actually had sex together, unless you were in the bedroom you would not know. But all the signs were that there was an affair very early on.
Charles and Camilla like many couples who have affairs have tried to rewrite history. It is a very common thing to do.

It is, indeed. Not just them, though - of course.

Phos · 03/10/2022 13:21

I like Camilla. She's never put a foot wrong as Duchess of Cornwall. She has remained very dignified in the face of a lot of criticism from the Diana sycophants.

Some people are meant to be together and I think the King and Queen Consort are an example. They seem very happy.

Phos · 03/10/2022 13:23

It's also a rewriting of history to suggest Diana didn't have a string of affairs herself.

antelopevalley · 03/10/2022 13:24

@Phos Except nobody EVER denies that.
What is constantly denied is that Charles and Camilla were having an affair either from the start of Diana's marriage or very early on.

antelopevalley · 03/10/2022 13:26

@Phos Camilla and Charles are so happy they pretty much live apart.
Not my idea of a happy marriage - but whatever.

Each to their own. They have their arrangements and seem happy. Best to let them be.

Pushyoupullme · 03/10/2022 13:30

‘Rather’ posh? Who would be posher than the queen consort, wife of the king?

Oh there are plenty of people in the world who either are, or think they are 😂, posher than Camilla, Queen Consort. She seems refreshingly down to earth to me.

Comedycook · 03/10/2022 13:31

Agree entirely. It's an absolute marketing triumph that so much of the British public are not only grateful to the royals but actually feel sorry for them.

Most of them have the morals of alley cats

antelopevalley · 03/10/2022 13:38

@Pushyoupullme she probably would not give you the time of day.

I imagine lots of couples in their 70s would spend time apart if they had multiple fully staffed luxury homes to choose from.

Not to mention that Camilla has her own children and grandchildren, who she no doubt likes spending time with away from royal properties.
