Extracts of this were being discussed on a previous thread ('The Times) which just finished.

I'm interested in buying this book, despite never having ever bought any other book about the Royal Family and never having watched The Crown.

I'm interested however in the archaic rituals of the Royal Court and how it works as an employer, and also how the courtiers advise.

Yes the excerpts were focused on Harry and Meghan but presumably that's just for clicks given the relevant timing, and that the book goes well beyond that.

Poignant that in the synopsis for it on The Foyles website it says:

The Queen, after a remarkable 70 years of service, is entering the final seasons of her reign without her husband Philip to guide her. Meanwhile, Charles seeks to define what his future as King will be, with his court wielding ever greater influence as he plans for his imminent accession.

Anyone else thinking of buying this?

The only thing I admire about H and M is that - so far- they have not paraded their DC for financial reasons : of course that might change .

I do have to laugh at H&M with the kids, Why do they realise birthday photos?

It's almost like trying to complete with W&K but actually there is no need for them to do it.

It’s also mind boggling how they think they can turn their hand to anything, from childrens books to tv series. As they’ve discovered, it’s not as easy as it looks. Also, they present themselves as the authorities on a whole host of topics. Such as equality, feminism the environment etc. Subjects they aren’t really qualified to speak on. And are actually at odds with how the live and conduct themselves. More worryingly, they’re taking guest speaker spots, that would benefit from having actually qualified experts in those places instead imo

@DFOD
😂

Jibbajabba1 · 29/09/2022 21:46

For some reason this came to mind

@DFOD 😂

@Jibbajabba1 that has crossed my mind too. What qualifications have they got to discuss this stuff?
And how do they propose to make money from it?

It's all very weird.

I’m just going to order the book as my October pay day treat - I was going to wait til it was in paperback (waiting for Revenge in paperback - it will make a great stocking filler for my SIL) but I want to read the lot. Then it can go in the guest room bookcase.

You can report me if you wish but having a different opinion about a person/couple isn't grounds to delete comments. I would put in a strong complaint to MN if it were. I won't be bullied off a thread because I don't buy into your narrative of H&M. So while this is an open forum I will express my right to an opinion. It says something when not denigrating a person is cause for complaint. I can highlight many comments on this thread that do warrant removal from MN and shall do so if required.

Hi all,
We are getting a lot of reports about this thread. Please ensure your comments stick to the subject and are within the spirit of the site, as we prefer not to have to make deletions.
Thanks

Can we please just try to ignore anything clearly not posted in good faith. I know I didn't but will now.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 29/09/2022 22:09

Yes please can we get back to discussing the book, it has been an interesting thread and ignore and derailment.

Will do.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 29/09/2022 22:16

When is the book out? The excerpts are pretty strong - wonder what else will be revealed!

Cuck00soup · 29/09/2022 22:20

Just watching the news about the timing of HMQ's death, 40 minutes before the plane with Andrew, Edward, William & Sophie landed at Aberdeen.

I really, really hope the suggestion that Harry / Meghan held up that plane by arguing about who should be on it is wrong. Because if it isn't, the others may struggle to forgive.

I just googled and it said 4th October.

RandomPenguinHouse · 29/09/2022 22:21

@smileandjoy it wasn’t your opinion that’s the issue, don’t twist things, I don’t find your opinion of H&M problematic in any way. It was your gleeful continued attempt to derail I had an issue with.

As it happens, and @EstherMumsnet will know, I didn’t report. I’ve said my piece.

Yes @LondonWolf good idea.

Next Thursday.

this is a good article - I’m not a habitual Spectator reader but it made me laugh.

I'm going to buy this book - it looks great

DuchessOfPort · 29/09/2022 22:22

Oh maybe it would just be delivered on Thursday. Either way, I’m looking forward to the whole kit and caboodle! Charles too!

It takes at least an hour to drive from Aberdeen airport to Balmoral though, Cuck00soup. So even if the plane had taken off when originally scheduled, they would still have been too late.

I wondered if that actually might make it easier for people to build bridges - essentially unless you were already in Scotland like Anne and Charles, you wouldn’t have been in time, no matter what happened.
