'Courtiers' by Valentine Low

Extracts of this were being discussed on a previous thread ('The Times) which just finished.

I'm interested in buying this book, despite never having ever bought any other book about the Royal Family and never having watched The Crown.

I'm interested however in the archaic rituals of the Royal Court and how it works as an employer, and also how the courtiers advise.

Yes the excerpts were focused on Harry and Meghan but presumably that's just for clicks given the relevant timing, and that the book goes well beyond that.

Poignant that in the synopsis for it on The Foyles website it says:

The Queen, after a remarkable 70 years of service, is entering the final seasons of her reign without her husband Philip to guide her. Meanwhile, Charles seeks to define what his future as King will be, with his court wielding ever greater influence as he plans for his imminent accession.

Anyone else thinking of buying this?

Maybe she’s a tough old bird 😂

... 'old' relative to H&M anyway.

That's great but this thread is about a book of which extracts have already been released.

Why are you so indifferent to people who found it traumatising to work for 'stunning' Meghan and her husband? Do you think only members of the royal family should be listened to?

Normally very “Old” wealthy families look after their Staff well.
It’s the parvenus that throw their weight around, as the new status goes to their heads like cheap prosecco.

Harry really should have known better than to harangue and bully on his wife’s behalf.

Maybe Harry received haughty eye rolling distain and felt ( To save face) that he too had to shout at respected Staff.

The Queen was not amused.

I see MN has deleted some posts on this thread – personal attacks are clearly not tolerated. Well done MN.

@oakleaffy
Terrible to treat people in such a way, especially when they really don’t have a platform or the resources to right the wrong.

Did they delete your reply to my question about why you are so indifferent to the people who felt traumatised working for your 'great couple'? Or have you not got round to answering that yet?

The way that H&M have treated their staff is awful. It just shoes what a good job the palace did keeping Harry’s personality under wraps.

Harry and Meghan seem to bring out the worst in each other, sitting on their thrones in Montecito bristling over imagined slights.

MM clearly hates the new Princess of Wales, I’m guessing they had a new PR plan to push Meghan as the new ‘unofficial princess’ of wales, the ‘reincarnation of Diana’. That plan has had to go in the bin, along with her scripts for Pearl.

sparkleystuff · 29/09/2022 20:40

If Diana was still alive what do you think she would feel about the whole situation with her beloved sons ?

It is mandatory? Like H&M I'll exercise free-will.

OMG can you imagine MM with a MIL !!!

Her jealousy and control would flip right out.

I think Meghan and Diana were both the objects of jealousy.

Ohnonevermind · 29/09/2022 20:45

i think MM and PD would have gotten on really well for a few weeks, then had the most spectacular blow up fight and never spoken again

Well, when people click on a link about a book, it's usual to expect them to discuss that book, instead of fantasising over hypothetical photos of complete strangers' 'adorable' kids in an as yet unpublished book.

But never mind. Your lack of response speaks loud and clear.

Like the Beckham-Peltz shenanigans too many precious and fragile egos

Jibbajabba1 · 29/09/2022 20:47

I think meghan would have focused on Diana instead of Kate - I don’t think Diana would be pleased with how Harrys other family relationships have been impacted

Jibbajabba1 · 29/09/2022 20:47

perfect example

I hope the memoir has pictures of the family. I think Meghan is stunning and we don't get to see the children very often.

Oh but they’re a credit to their parents you say. So how did you come to that conclusion when the public hardly ever (never) sees them?
As long as they all look pretty you’re happy it seems. Let’s hope the book is full of pretty pictures and lovely anecdotes.

That’s certainly a pattern we have seen repeatedly with MM - intense friendships then flip out, doors slammed 4EVA

Ohnonevermind · 29/09/2022 20:50

Diana was a true icon, meghan is an icon in her own mind (and Harry’s) only.

I think she might have tolerated Meghan as a fling for Harry, but absolutely not as a wife. If she saw things getting serious, she'd have quickly steered him in the direction of some Tabitha or Arabella.

To be honest, I don't think she'd have been crazy about Kate either. I think she would have considered her far too common for her son the future King. Whatever about the 'people's princess' and hanging out with celebrities. Diana was a true aristocrat at heart.

LondonWolf · 29/09/2022 20:56

That really made me Grin. I am actually see that!

sparkleystuff · 29/09/2022 20:57

I would like to think that if PD was still alive she would have been able to 'soften' Harry's anger and hurt and guide him ,MM,and PW to a better place.
