To feel very sad about the Queen

I’m quite “ish” about the royals but actually feel very sad about the Queen. I can’t seem to articulate why - something to do with the end of an era perhaps? I just can’t believe she’s gone.

I'm unexpectedly in tears over Princess Margaret not having her name included on the ledger stone alongside her parents' and sister's (and Prince Philip's). She already needed to be cremated to be buried with them didn't she? Just seems heartless.

Wow that’s surprising I wonder what that’s about. I think her ashes were moved there at a later date, I can’t remember where her ashes were before. You would hope her son and daughter would try to get her name added

Yeah I wonder why Margaret isn’t on the ledger?

asblindasabat · 24/09/2022 23:05

Probably a stupid question, but are their coffins right below the bit where the ledger is?

Margaret was cremated because there wasn’t enough room in the George V1 vault for 5 coffins and she wanted to be there with her Father. Pretty sure there will be a memorial to her on the wall of the crypt.

Oh okay, the news article I read didn't mention a separate memorial. I suppose it wasn't the original plan for her to be buried there.

I remember reading at the time that Princess Margaret chose to be cremated because she didn't want to be buried at Frogmore, found it gloomy, she wanted to be cremated and her ashes placed next to her father. There's a stone resting against the wall for Margaret.

She also wasn't a member of the Order of the Garter.

How poignant this is, I didn’t realise that’s why she was cremated

It still hasn’t fully sunk in for me - I’m certainly feeling better than I was, but still feel quite unsettled. On the one hand it feels like something not that connected to me but on the other, it’s such a seismic change. I think the poster who described it as surreal is spot on.

This webpage has a photo of Princess Margaret’s memorial stone. It is lying upright against the wall, back left, in the picture of the Queen’s.

It has a lovely inscription but I think it would look nicer actually in the wall rather than stood against it.

The memorial for the princess Charlotte of wales is the stuff of nightmares Shock

That was truly horrific. Death in childbirth was never any respecter of wealth or class, but the really tragic thing about Princess Charlotte was that if her doctor had been brave enough to try that new invention called forceps, her life might have been saved.

It also put my own postnatal, post-Caesarean worries into proportion when my DD was born nearly 21 years ago.

Thank you very much for posting this it’s very interesting.
Regarding Princess Charlotte apparently there was a huge public outpouring of grief when she died similar to how the public reacted to Princess Diana’s death.
