To help traction for horses and carriages

doodlejump1980 · 19/09/2022 10:04

To help to wooden wheels of the gun carriage to grip the road

fucketyfuckwit · 19/09/2022 10:05

Maybe it's for the horses feet, keeps it a bit quieter?

Mrsjayy · 19/09/2022 10:05

Maybe traction for the gun carriage or horse poop!

BlueKaftan · 19/09/2022 10:05

Traction for carriages, filling in uneven bits? We were just speculating about this.

WhoWasThatMaskedWoman · 19/09/2022 10:05

It's to make life easier for the horses.

RudsyFarmer · 19/09/2022 10:07

Yeo. Will be to do with hooves and wheels keeping contact with the surface. Particularly if the horses startle.

Rinoachicken · 19/09/2022 10:08

So glad someone else asked this! I was googling it but not getting any answers!
