I'm really curious how people pass the time in The Queue, especially being on your feet and constantly moving. What do you do? Read a book? Sing some hymns? Pray? Tell me!

I was in the queue 6pm till 6am last night, to be fair it actually went really quick apart from an hour when it stopped moving as i believe they clean/rehearse 2am till 3 am. The queue goes past a fair few landmarks and around parts of london I have never seen, with some blue plaques etc so it was interesting, a bit like a walking tour. plus the lights all came on as it got darker so showed Londons skyline to be beautiful. But really, mostly everyone chatted. I now know about 10 people that i didnt yesterday as you stood together, held each others bags whilst some nipped to the loo or to get coffees for everyone. The queue was in good spirits dispite the cold, lots of cheering for joggers going past. Its hard to explain, but you wouldnt have had much time to read, it was too social!

Apparently, researchers who study the psychology of crowd behaviour are all over it because they can get access to willing participants glad of the distraction, unlike at riots, for example.

I expect share the moment chatting!

However Its also strange how the death has now become all about the queue.
How many times I wonder have we heard that word in the last few days 🤣
It was some relief when it was referred to as ,the line once.

It was some relief when it was referred to as ,the line once.

That's because queue is an English word and line is American. We might line up but we almost always queue here!

Where is everyone going toilet I have to ask ?

LibbyL92 · 17/09/2022 20:47

I went on Wednesday. 8 hours in total.
I took my kindle and headphones.
didn’t use either!

I chatted for the whole 8 hours and came home with 6 new friends.

the atmosphere was incredible.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/09/2022 20:49

There are portaloos.

BuffaloCauliflower · 17/09/2022 20:50

@Hm2020 there are portaloos throughout, you can leave and rejoin the queue where you were

Hawkins001 · 17/09/2022 21:18

For me it would be a mix, a book, or tablet, some portable battery packs, some food, and possibly those portable camping chair if they can be used.

DuckTails · 17/09/2022 22:05

So lovely to hear about all the people making friends in The Queue! I can’t brave it but definitely have FOMO.

NCTDN · 17/09/2022 22:08

You're only allowed to take a small bag into the abbey aren't you? So you couldn't take a camping chair.

If one really good thing comes out of this, hopefully it will be that people now know how to spell 'queue' properly, and not 'que' or 'cue' Grin Grin
